In a long marriage, the court usually looks at marital property and earning capacity, not just what each person brought in before the wedding. If one spouse stayed home and the other built income during the marriage, expect equitable distribution and possible alimony. The cleanest move is to document separate assets and focus on a settlement before a judge decides it for you.
