Thoughts on dating before it’s finalGo for it. After I filed, I also figured I’d have to wait until things were finalized but after six months I was so lonely I joined an online dating site and it was fine. I wouldn’t mention it in my profile but always let women know before we actually went on date that I was still in the divorce process. No one had a problem with it. Though it can feel like you are the only one who understands what you are going though, divorce is very common, of course, and women understand. In fact, once you g… | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/04/18 02:27 AM
On the brinkYes, it’s normal and 100% a good thing to talk to an attorney before asking for a divorce. Sure, there are some reasons that might be called selfish because they deal with how to act or document things in a way that’s advantageous for you but I’d argue they are more about protecting yourself than being vindictive towards your STBX. But besides all that, you want to talk to a lawyer because divorces can be hugely complex and from reading your post it seems to me that you don’t really understand a… | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/02/18 12:06 PM
Extra money beyond child supportI don’t think you should react to her threat to take you back to court for your parenting style by continuing to pay her more than you think you should. If she truly cared enough about your parenting she’d take you back to court anyway. Sounds like blackmail and it won’t ever end. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/11/17 01:01 AM
Trying to salvage my marriageI think most guys on here have had a marriage where it didn’t work out. Divorce might seem expensive until you remember that you only live once and so your time and your life is more precious. Besides, without kids your payments to her won’t be insurmountable. (But for sure divorce can be expensive.) I’m not an expert on addiction so IDK what it means when she says she’ll stop drinking. If it were me, I would prepare to divorce by talking to an attorney—there are ways to protect yourself and not… | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/11/17 06:08 PM
Has This Happened to Anyone? Women Use Protection Orders as a Weapon During Divorce. In my state, to get an order of protection (OP) you have to appear before a judge and ask. If the other side isn't there to defend themselves it's a request for an "emergency" OP and you have to argue why things can't wait until the other party can be there. Maybe not the biggest hurdle if you lie / exaggerate. But Judges seem to understand the magnitude of an OP so will set a status date for Emergency OP's maybe one week later to give you the chance to give your side. Once they can talk to ever… | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/17 12:45 AM
Strongly Considering Divorce. Thought I'd See What You All Thought. You don't have kids yet—might be time to cut your losses. You'll all be sad for six months but will get over it and then find some happiness in your life. | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/09/17 01:37 PM
Spousal/child support inequity?"Fair" doesn't have much to do with it. Law and practice varies dramatically by state so check laws in your state. And talk with a lawyer ASAP. I was in similar situation as you. I also had pre-marital student loans so after I paid child support and my monthly loan payment I was taking home less than her even though I made 3x as much. And that's before "child care" costs and maintenance. 50:50 split of time with the kids is a good goal, but far from assured, BTW. Again, check with a lawyer. Also… | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/05/17 03:47 PM
