1	Womp-womp If a society is patriarchal, the male has the choice of mate, and if it's matriarchal, the female does. In both cases, the female has the biological burden and energy investment that goes in to raising an infant, but that doesn't determine which sex chooses their mate. Evolution doesn't dictate that female invests energy therefore picks mate. There are other factors at play as well.
