yyuuuup! Not so much "refused" as "didn't bother". Said "sure" to all the suggestions from the relationship counsellor and then just . . . didn't do any of them. Despite being told that divorce was on the table if we couldn't make it work. Less than a year later, I ask for divorce and it's all * shocked Pikachu face *. I had always complained that she didn't listen to anything I said so I don't know why I expected this to be any different.

It's definitely something I consider, actually it was the first thing I considered. But I just can't figure out when it would be happening. We both work from home, when she does go out she goes with mutual friends (and comes back with photos, stories of the night out etc.). She's never secretive with her phone - leaves it unlocked, and I know the code anyway - there's never been anything on there that's fishy. In a way it would simplify things if there was something else going on, and give me a …

Thanks! I appreciate the support. I meant to say before, I'm glad things have worked out for you. It's encouraging to know that such relationships are in fact possible!

Thank you for this, it is good advice (well - not sure on point 5 - I'm not much for playing games). I have gone through individual counselling and we have tried marriage counselling multiple times. I worked a lot on myself. I do sports, I volunteer at a charity. I have hobbies and friends. I do well at work and make good money. I have no "game" in that I am shy around women, but I know I do have lots of good qualities. I worked on the relationship. I tried the various different "love languages"…

Sorry to hear that. That is a really complex situation. I hope you can find a solution.

Of course I have told her I feel. Many, many times. If it had led to any lasting change I wouldn't be here.

I think we're already at the doing-things-independently stage. We have entirely different hobbies and few shared friends. I try to avoid conversing with her. Yes, it is peaceful. But wondering about what ought to be, what might be, is this right for me . . . it's a splinter in my mind. I can't stop wondering.

I tick three of those boxes already lol . . . addiction I have managed to overcome. I thought I had anger issues, but as soon as I stopped engaging with my wife I became much calmer. Emotionally closed off - yes, to keep myself safe. It's probably not a sustainable way to be.

It's not about the property. It's about the concept of a family home, a warm and safe environment that they can grow up in. Big enough for them to have groups of friends around. A garden to play in, grow flowers in, do slip 'n slide in summer. All that will be gone if I liquidate the house. It is a lot to take away from them.

My wife seems to be some sort of old-timey caricature of what wives and marriages are. Nagging, frigid. It does make me think that all the horrible stereotypes are true. I still can't bring myself to believe it though. Or perhaps it's just what happens in marriage and it's not the fault of my wife, or women, or men. I suppose I'll find out if I ever get free. I do know I won't be getting married again.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
