She might be less in touch with reality in other ways. I'd give her a chance in an MMA fight with Floyd, but Sandy Hook denial is pretty goddamn bat shit.

Not sure if you're kidding or not, but all human embryos start as female.

I don't see how it would be internalized misandry. Because it wasn't since you're a girl. Apparently these terms can be difficult to grasp for some people.

Quite true. Regardless of how one feels about feminism as a whole, some aspects of it are plainly based in reality. I would count intersectionality among those.

Because women should be ashamed of their bodies. Forcing them to expose parts of themselves for the purposes of photography is a form of emotional torture, or rape, if you will.

I think it's pretty shameful of society myself and questionable that feminism, or at least pop feminism doesn't do anything to counter this mentality, it is after all a very powerful position to be in, so I guess they want to hold onto the discrimination that suits them. This is not a sentence.

Most US politicians either support feminism or pay lip service to it. You can't get elected if your opponent can succeed in labeling you "anti-woman".

The term "majority" has a different meaning within a sociological context. The actual numbers don't matter.

I didn't downvote you. If you can't see how your comment is antagonistic then we really have nothing to discuss, but I'll try to help you out a little. Self-identifying as "member to a crazy fringe group" is not the same as someone else telling you that your group is a "crazy fringe group". It's like someone calling themselves an asshole, but becoming offended when a stranger calls them an asshole. This is pretty basic stuff.

Well it's not like your comment has any redeeming qualities, such as the reasoning behind your opinion, which could potentially serve as a jump off for discussion. If I go to any subreddit and post "This subreddit is a crazy fringe group", I would fully expect to be downvoted. It's a worthless, antagonistic comment.

Oh, my mistake. I thought you were trying to say that MMA fighters have no problem just beating up whoever. Like since they're OK with doing it to the men they face, that it means they become conditioned to do it to women.

Yeah and football players have no qualms about running into each other at full speed. What is your point? It's a job. Football players don't go around tackling people on the street and fighters don't typically beat their spouses. When the Aaron Hernandez story broke were you saying that the violence of the gridiron somehow normalizes murder in the minds of football players? MMA fights are regulated events with rules that both combatants agree upon. You can't compare it to domestic violence. War …

yeah, its totally bias to see a bunch of sexism posts and say "oh look! sexists!" But isn't that what you just got done complaining about this sub doing with posts about feminism? Funny how that works. The thing you seem to be forgetting is that when you're debating something like equality, the definition of that word as applied to various issues is going to be different down to each individual you ask. Just because two people have differing notions of equality doesn't necessarily mean that one …

To be clear then, you're saying that their argument would make sense if they were saying that War Machine did this due to the fact that he's an MMA fighter? As a "fan" of both, I'm not sure how blaming either MMA or MRAs makes any sense at all.

It is a shame. I try not to assume too much when people identify with any ideology whether it's feminism, liberalism, conservatism, Islam, Christianity, etc., but it can be difficult to not make assumptions. We all have biases. If I introduced myself as an MRA at a feminist gathering, I would likely receive dirty looks or open ridicule before anyone asked me about my positions on various issues. And of course the reverse is also true. It is definitely unfortunate how tribalistic people can be.

I'd just like to point out that Marilyn French never actually said that. A character in one of her books said it. That's a pretty important detail. If I write a book that includes a character who is a member of the KKK, it doesn't make me a racist. There are a number of ridiculous quotes you could use to illustrate your point, though, but I'll also encourage you to source them out if you take some from those long feminist quote lists that make the rounds occasionally. Some of those quotes, like …

"then you're a feminist" is technically a correct response to someone saying "I'm not a feminist but I believe in gender equality" You're doing exactly what this post is mocking. No it isn't "technically correct". It isn't necessarily correct at all. People do not need to associate themselves with feminism in order to believe in equality and you should probably stop trying to tell people what they are because it is incredibly patronizing. If I reject tenets of feminism like The PatriarchyTM…

That is an over simplification of the problem though. No one is faced with the direct question of "Hiring women will save you a million dollars. Will you do it?". They have to evaluate each candidate and make decisions that aren't always as cut and dry as a mathematical cost benefit analysis. This all presumes that hiring women would save money to begin with, which is not something I'm convinced of either way. All I'm saying is that the issue involves things like personal biases, societal attitu…

You can't just throw out "straw man" and pretend like it means something. Nothing I said was a straw man in any way. If you're talking about "without studying the underlying factors" then I would point you to this part of the parent comment: "speaks volumes on it's face". My emphasis.

My point is that such a list by itself is not evidence that women are bad CEOs or that women are being discriminated against. It isn't evidence of anything except how many female CEOs are in the S&P 1500. To look at something like that and see it as evidence without studying the underlying factors shows a lack of critical thinking on the issue. You can hypothesize about why the list looks the way it does, but that's not the same thing as evidence. I'm not sure what kind of companies you're askin…

I see this argument a lot as well and I just don't see it as hard proof of anything. There is certainly some merit to what you're saying, but I feel like it is a theory. We're talking about a situation that has a mix of economic and sociological factors at play, so to apply pure economic logic to it may not yield the best results. It's not like the market is completely infallible in the ways it goes about generating profits.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't like when people on either side of the argument do that. The number of female CEOs on S&P 1500 or Fortune 500 doesn't mean anything by itself. It doesn't mean women are being kept down, nor does it mean that women are less suited to the role because "business only cares about the bottom line" which implies that there would be more female CEOs on such lists if women were good at the job.

A feminist would simply say that that list only reflects a lack of opportunity for women to occupy top leadership positions in such companies. I don't know to what extent that feminist would be right or wrong, but I don't feel like you can just point to such a list and say "see? there's the results". It isn't so simple.

I see what you're trying to say, but "defining words" and "defining usages of words" are inextricably linked. Dictionaries adapt to common usage and common usage is influenced by the standards that dictionaries set.
