Another great read regarding "talent" is 'So Good They Can't Ignore You' by Cal Newport. He dives deep into the idea of talent being largely nonexistent. It's full of great advice.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. This post is nothing but sexual frustration from someone who probably got banged real good and has been disappointed by the sex since then.

Can't help but read this as a terribly dry joke. Author describes sexual preference and confuses it with a social justice issue, in which men are to blame for not catering their actions to a woman's preference. This piece is a great example of "toxic" femininity. Passive aggressive shaming in order to get what she wants, with no empathy for the human being she wants to mold into her perfect dildo.

Of course everyone wants you to name them. If you hold back your argument, nobody can respond with criticism, then you can keep on going thinking you're right.

Men can walk alone at night without fearing for their safety. Everyone knows that men are invincible. This is one that pisses me off. I've been attacked at night more than any woman I know, but I only here women talking about how its something they have to worry about and hold it over mens heads. Most all of the people I know who have been attacked at night are male sometimes the story ends with that person defending themselves, or they get away, or sometimes it ends in that person getting beat …

My roommate was looking online on articles and books about how to be a man. He found countless resources written by both men and women. He then went on a search for resources on "how to be a woman" and found one book which is basically a feminist manifesto.

Women like to talk about what they are attracted to, but if you use your powers of observation rather than listening to that shit, you realize that it doesn't always match up.

I learned about doing it in longhand rather than typing it out. Its true, there is something extremely different about gathering the will to sit and write three pages in a notebook. I've actually taken the effort to get a nice paper and fountain pen, and practice my cursive, which has made the process much more rewarding. So if you don't have your computer one morning, try writing it out.

with the whole seducing thing Cringetacular. Why do men throw in this feminine touch to their writing? I hadn't noticed that before you mentioned it. Its a buffer phrase, isn't it? An attempt to shirk the direct association.

My view of aloofness suggest an accidental quality to it. But you don't know my views of zen based on so little information, so that's an irrelevant point. I do have experience around zen teachers and within a community context though. I'm basing my opinion on person to person contact, not internet forums or purely through book reading.

I've not found any of my zen role models to be aloof in any sense of the word. I've found them to be the least aloof of any people that I have ever met, and simply being around them is enough to shed light on the aloofness of all who are in their presence.

The feminist parody is completely an different kind of humor, and that makes a huge difference. The feminist parody comes from an understanding of some of the subculture, and did nothing to subvert the opinions or viewpoints of feminists, it was simply parodying the culture. The butt of the jokes were the characters themselves, not an embodiment of feminist ideals. We were all in on the jokes and humor. The MRA skit was deliberately misconstruing what MRAs stand for, and used the character as a …

I actually think that the "check your privilege" is no different that the power structure feminism seems to abhor, except it works to the feminist favor, so "it can't be bad". It assumes automatic privilege for anyone with certain characteristics, and so such people's opinions, knowledge, and experience are automatically taken as to be ineffective at truly understanding those at the other end of the privilege dichotomy. So, since a white american male "can not truly empathize" with a mexican ame…

I agree. When you take a person and put them in a box, you're aligning your view of everyone in that box as having the same characteristics that you attribute to that box. This can effectively negate one's perceived value of everyone in that box, if they don't like the actions or character of one person. If I can't be understood to listen with fresh ears and ideas, rather than with my box label's ears, then I will be spoken to as though I am some ineffable concept of an array of characteristics …

Being a woman doesn't mean she can't cut your hair. You've just been to bad barbers. The best haircut I've ever received was by a woman barber. It totally kicked ass. Now I have a guy who cut hair in the millitary in the 60s, and has been doing it ever since.

If a woman hits a man, it is wrong, unless it is clear that the only option to deter violence is by hitting back. If a man hits a woman it is wrong, unless the only thing he can do to prevent further violence upon himself is to hit back. Am I a mysoginist pig if I think women should be held to the same social standard as men? No, thats the goal of Feminism and men's rights. I don't know if you think there should be a double standard, where women should be able to attack a man, but should under n…

Look, you can't manipulate pieces of a whole to fit your idea of reality. The thing that happened in his story is that he DIDN'T HIT ANYONE. The discussion revolved around the double standard, with emphasis on how violence from women to men, men to men, men to women is bad. Okay? No, "/r/mensrights" doesn't disagree with me. The post you showed does not prove that. Again you take the post of one person and say that it is representative of the whole, along with dodging my other points. The point of that post is to highlight double standards, not advocate violence. He would have fought it out because he was attacked, and would defend himself, because its more socially acceptable. Unlike defending yourself from a woman. But I don't have to explain this stuff to you like you…

And Fred Phelps the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church, which is popular with a lot of people, but it would be a short sided view to associate his views with all Christians. Also, I am personally disappointed that some people would feel this way. Its not right to express that this is the proposed action anybody, men, or otherwise should take. Its just wrong.

Do you think anybody on this forum would support those views? If so they would be such a minority as to get downvoted to shit, just like you will for bringing it up. After finding that it is the same cancer that a lot of the women breast cancer fighters get she still tried to say there was probably a logical reason why some men are denied certain healthcare converage for breast cancer.

There are plenty of men who would laugh this off, knowing to themselves that people don't believe this shit and go on with their day. But I know there are people who take it seriously. It reminds me of this girl I knew in college. She was %100 convinced that Bill O'Reilly was a comedian news reporter... Her dad would watch his show and laugh and laugh. Laugh, cos men r dumb! The point is, if genders were reversed, there would be a most likely be a complaint from a woman, and a man could potentially be losing his job over this for sending sexist chain emails at work. EDIT: I should mention that this is also racist. Why is this okay?

The danger quotes around 'true victims' highlights the perception of the men's rights movement by a lot of people, and its gross. They think that men are trying to shift victimhood over to our side so we can get more pity or something. I'm in no way wanting to be seen as a victim. I just want equal stance when it comes to protecting innocence until being proven guilty.

It could be worth it to file a complaint to the HR department saying this type of thing is demeaning toward men in your work place. Are you hesitant about speaking up about it?
/r/MensRights17/05/12 06:03 PM

I thought playing the victim is what feminism says women did before feminism. Why are modern day feminists still painting themselves as underprivileged? I don't see the privilege thing as necessary to gain rights. Blame does nothing but shift responsibility, which makes it even harder to right the wrongs that have been committed. It also makes it look like you have more wrongs than you do if you already see yourselves as a victim. Also, spending more time bashing feminists is a hobby around here…

We were talking on another thread. You seem like a good guy. Take up some weightlifting or yoga or something and take a little break from /mr and when you come back, maybe it wont seem so stressful. You can keep grinding it out, without it grinding you out.

I understand that most feminists don't seem give men that benefit, on account o' all the privilege men have, but that doesn't dictate my actions. Or my words. I honestly wish more /mr advocates chose to see things the same way. Diplomacy, rather than collectively losing ones head and declaring all out war.
/r/MensRights17/05/12 03:12 AM

Feminists as a whole did not lobby against MRA. And yes, still so. Misunderstanding and a lack of communication does not warrant us treating it like a war. I am not an enemy to feminists. Even if one calla me an enemy, I refuse to think in such terms.
/r/MensRights17/05/12 02:57 AM

I know. I see feminism as an ideology driven by the belief that women have less privilege than men. They say they are working toward equality by increasing women's privilege. I don't think anybody here at r/mensrights believes that men are inherently more privileged than women, and that's where all the anger comes from. Anything men say is discredited because men are more privileged. Also, /mr wants to be taken seriously but everybody laughs at it because they believe we already have it made.

/r/MensRights17/05/12 02:29 AM

Feminism is not my declared enemy, though I do disagree with some of the major ideals. MRA shouldnt be about picking a side. This isn't a war. This isn't a sport. This is chance to fix some of the fixable problems with the perception of our gender. Declaring Feminists enemies gives them a lot of reason to completely discredit the MR movement.

If you're going to get picky, saying his statement is "common knowledge" is based on the same kind of anecdotal reasoning as my statement. I'm not sure why you're choosing to challenge that statement, since you are using the same assuming air as I was. Besides, my statement was that I am skeptical, and I think that's all there is to take from my comment besides my own story.
/r/MensRights15/05/12 06:18 PM

I suppose whenever I read somebody wrote "most x" they usually mean "almost all x" and it still comes off as a generalized statement. I'm just willing to bet its closer to even than not.

My girlfriend and I are actually the complete opposite of that. I would rather talk about it, and get it out in the open, and she'd rather not talk about things as if its not happening. Both have their advantages, but I'm skeptical, that "Most women" and "most men" are like that.

This is the first time I have seen use of WRA. Is this a new post-feminism handle for people who want to separate themselves from feminists, or is it a new ideology altogether? If its a parallel to MRA, in a move toward equality and reciprocal views, I am all for it.

I think the point is not to only pick relationships based on wether or not you want kids, but he's talking about your specific case. You said you DO want kids, and not with the woman you are with, so you have to enter that into the equation. If you change your mind about wanting kids, or your opinion of your future kids' mother, then you're not being dishonest, but if you truly believe what you said, your relationship probably is based on false assumptions. That's tough to deal with though, from…

It's legal in Nevada. If you are ever driving through Elko, NV its completely normal to see Inez's Diddling and Dancing, Mona's Ranch, Suzy's Fantasy Club, and others in the legally regulated red light district downtown. It was always a goofy topic for us youngsters, but as I grew older I realized we accepted the place it had in the community, and it was neither shunned nor fussed about, and simply had its place over there on third street.

I like that you are trying to work out inconsistencies in peoples perception of concepts. When I was living in rural Nevada, this would appear a bit radical, but I bet this was created by a person who lives in a place that mostly doesn't deal very closely with these issues because of the way its worded. Since when has a womens body been more public property than a man's?
