Don't hope for reconciliation. They're trying to build a new life without the pain caused by you. You would do well to grieve, grow, and move on

Maybe try a therapist and move away from "Christian Men" that crowd can be pretty toxic / fundamentally mysogjistic I don't know that other men will really help you take accountability or grow from mistreating your woman

Ultimately, and this isn't me judging you, it's normal, it boils down to maintaining your own identity in a relationship and not falling into a codependency. Some might say that all relationships are some degree of codependency, but it sounds like that's what you guys had going on. I get it, I've been there too.

People have cheated through out history. Look at the myths of the greeks. It's not just women and it is not just these days. It sucks that you got cheated on but be smarter. It's not women who are terrible, it's just people. People are terrible. Misogyny sucks.

File. Short enough to get an annulment. Still don't say anything. Call a lawyer. Do the above immediately. Get out. The phone, the drives, the car. Sorry man. Gotta protect yourself What you have you don't want in 5, 10, 15 years. End it.

I think you and her need to have a conversation where you tell her you know about the emotional affair. Maybe you guys have a chance to be really honest, and see the marriage as a partnership, and give each other permission to get your needs met elsewhere. It's probably your only path towards real happiness. But the lying and sneaking has to stop. That seeking emotional fulfillment is going to blow up and much more serious than a handjob from a stripper. Idk the choice is A) Do I want this marri…

I would respectfully point out that your follow up question also has a lot of assumptions that you take as given truths, which probably aren't. It's great to ask question, however friend I would kindly push back on some of your narratives. Like that Europe is less religious than the USA. Stuff like that. Best of luck with the Swiss ladies on round 2

Is your base assumption even correct? You start off assuming that our divorce rate is high increasing higher than the Swiss. Are you even starting with facts before looking to construct a causal narrative? Edit just did some googling, American divorce rate has been steadily declining since the 1980s Average American divorce rate is 35-43 % Average Swiss divorce rate is 40% These are all just quick Google results, I'm on a plane right now, so they may be wrong Point is, doesn't seem like there's …

I think you need to set your own reactions here aside and try way, way harder to be supportive. And to seek therapy. Whatever the history is of your relationship, which you haven't shared, your wife is telling you something bad that happened to her. She may have been roofied, it's s business trip,. people drink. I do at least on my trips. Why would she be telling you this? Occam's razor, the simplest explanation is often true. The simplest one is that this happened, and she's traumatized. She ha…

This isn't true or helpful. Plenty of men cheat. Plenty of women stay in a bad situation for the family. This isn't simple gender lines. It's messier. It's human. Both men and women can be stoic, and both can be selfish.

a) should people stay in a bad marriage? Regardless of your answer above b) how did you show goodness, charity, and sacrificial love to your wife? I'm going to be honest this reads like buzzwords that all dress up "she has to stay with me because," and potentially a situation where you're super controlling in a fucked up way. No one should stay in a bad marriage.

Lol what are you talking about. Have you actually read the Bible cover to cover on your own? Don't confuse your catholic dogmas with what actual Christianity is. If the Jews can get divorced so can you. You wrote elsewhere that you converted to Catholicism but that your wife didn't. Why would you expect her to live by the rules of your religion if she didn't join it? Seems super controlling and fucked up dude. Also divorce is totally fine with Christianity. Big yikes.

She had the best of intentions, but it still sucked. We did couples therapy for years. It was funny to the be the inverse of the gender stereotypes, but not in a haha way. It's not why we split up, but it did make everything harder. When you want to vent, you just want to be heard. To have someone interrupt to tell you their hot take on a solve, which you didn't ask for, it became infuriating. And she couldn't change. In that way, and many many others.
/r/Divorce_Men31/05/26 02:37 AM
2

Idk. I'm on the flip side of this. My ex wife was the one who always had a solution, instead of just fucking listening. She would literally interrupt me to tell me a solution, when I was in the first sentence of explaining a hard thing that I just wanted her empathy and listening on. Drove me fucking bonkers. People need to be able to vent, and just be listened to. Having the wife who was emotionally unavailable and always defaulted to solutions made me feel so desperately miserably alone. Sucke…

Exactly, spot on. A lot of posters here are too much in their pain and blame women, when you just wrote it out perfectly. Men and women both, they're just people. People try for awhile, and when nothing changes they stop raising the issue but it doesn't mean that suddenly they're happy Now you have resentment etc enter the relationship. Then when someone files and someone feels blindsided, it's because the blindsided person wasn't actually paying attention to the person who filed. They had taken…

People aren't going to like it but what's holding men back are video games and online distractions. China clamped down on youth gaming for a reason. The rise of online gaming has correspondended with the fall of male academic achievement and professional achievement. I initiated. I don't regret it. However I have some grief over the loss. Of the marriage, of my kids half the time, of some financial security. Of the loss of a friend. When it was good, it was great. But the reality is it was very rarely good. Most often it was awful. Still, lots of grief over the death of the dream.

Yeah so what you're weighing is statistical evidence vs anecdotal. It's a classic fallacy of the human brain / species. I don't have any advice to you, but what you're wrestling with is kind of a deeper profound question about how you interpret the world and build a worldview and the intersection of facts and emotion. It's why news shows show scary stories, it grabs peoples attention. It's why we remember every negative interaction much more than positive ones. Anyway, good luck

Used to be you'd see plenty of marriages with political differences. Feels like it's a much more polarized time now. On both sides. I question why you're conservative. Current conservative policies boil down to an us versus them mentality, with causing pain to the "other" and hatred of the other at the core. Current liberal policies boil down to a basic humanitarian perspective. All people deserve basic respect and help. So what I mean is either deep down you have some bigotry that you need to o…

You're really missing my point. Not every culture has this emphasis on monogamy. You are still caught in the programming of your culture with your perspective. The deeper truth is that it is not human nature nor has it ever been to be monogamous. Understanding that truth and working to let go of baggage from your cultural programming will help you. All these DNA test services have shown a significant percentage of families have different parent child relationships than previously thought. People that study human sexuality find that monogamy is not the inherent nature of the species. Different cultures handle this differently, but we are not monogamous animals. The heavy emphasis of marriage is about controlling men and women's sexual behavior, but it is not at all natural for homo sapiens to be monogamous. Hence all the cultural fixation o…
