Same boat with the same questions. I know being idle my mind wanders and I don’t want that. Honestly I had a lengthy list of to do things when she left but that quickly was completed. I do a lot of cleaning and errands but that’s it. Trying ti read more and be more active outdoors. Lost most of my friends and identity, like a lot of us have. Trying to just be low key and get used to being alone but it suck’s right now.

Did this for 9 long months. It sucked. Big time. Different rooms. Stay in different rooms always if you can. (I bought her out of the house but she dragged it ON and ON).

Yup. Just Went through this myself. 10 year relationship, 2 kids 5 and 2, out the door because “she is unhappy”. What kind of reason is that to grenade a family life? Same as you, upper middle class, great schools / house / family life. I would never trade family for happiness 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes. Just Went through that. Ex asked for supervised visitation for me, and 1 overnight a week for me based on 7 pages of nonsense (I don’t cook, I don’t clean, I don’t do diapers, etc - all of which was laughably false). The mediator ripped her apart and we have 50/50. She cried for an hour in mediation. Oh well lol

As someone once said, it’s amicable until it isn’t. Im 7 months into the process. 7 months ago, she swore to be amicable, didn’t want money, fast and cheap and she would never try to take kids from me. I literally almost did NOT get a lawyer because I believed her. 6 months in, she’s filing baseless accusations and asking for supervised visitations. Just saying 🤷🏻‍♂️

Right?? Married for 3. 2 kids. All gone because: she wasn’t happy. It’s like a bad ioke

I would say better be safe than sorry. My stbxw promised amicable, fast and cheap, not taking the kids, doesn’t want money because that hurts the kids - I almost didn’t get a lawyer. Fast forward 6 months: she thinks I get 2 non consecutive nights a week, she’s after full custody and money. So I hope it’s amicable but just to be safe, lawyer up.

Unfortunately no. In all honesty she’s a good mom and I’m a good dad. It’s starting to feel like she never thought out the details. In coparenting we agreed to split parenting on the weekend. The other party is out of the house the entire day. she was bawling for an hour over how hard it was to not be with the kids for ONE DAY. I was floored like, what did you think?l would happen? Mediation on Wed. We will find out.

I feel this. My spouse did the same thing. Two boys, 4.5 and 1.5. She filed for divorce soon after he youngest turned 1. Because she’s not happy. What does anyone make of that as a reason to destroy a family over? What happened to the marriage vows that were said? I guess some take them seriously and some not at all.

This! I almost didn’t get a lawyer because my stbxw promised up and down amicable, fast and cheap, not taking the kids, hurting me hurts the kids, etc etc. I believed it. Now she wants money, full custody and has a shit list to make me look unfit. Oh, and 5 months radio silence and refusing to discuss anything outside of mediation. And we still live together. (I always had a lawyer and was prepared for the worst so I’m covered). So yes, cover your ass and prepare for the worst and hope it never …

I would love that schedule but I think at ages 4.5 and 1.5 they’re too young for that but any form of 50/50 I will gladly take. Thanks for giving me hope!

Do you mind sharing the county? I’m Oakland. I was told “the best interests of the kids” means no more then a few nights away from either. Hard to justify what she wants with the state. I’m fine leaning on the state for child support and a parenting plan to allow that.

Thank you for your response, words like yours help me get through. I have kept a lid on everything for the last 4 months for exactly those reasons. I have said nothing, written nothing, total gray rock. We are still living together. She is in zero rush to leave the house, and has no clue as to her exit. It's just hard to keep it zipped all the time, you know? Day by day is all I can do. The boys are what matters

$350/hr. I think that's average,-ish but wouldn't know. I had to scramble for a lawyer, and had big concerns my STBXW would try to deny me equal custody - went with them, their business model is focusing on fathers rights - can't go wrong with that! I'm 3months in, and no complaints, but it's been low-key paperwork and discovery so far.

Oh i can totally relate. Served around Thanksgiving, $10k in the hole and lso just finished discover / interagatories. Goal is mediation and done in April, but because the STBXW refuses to discuss anything outside of mediation, its count the days and watch the $$$ burn away. What does the amount spent have to show for itself to date - nothing, just halfway through the process. ugh.
