If he's a technical co-founder in a startup where he grew into a CTO, it's entirely possible to be an asocial weirdo in a leadership role. Quite common in Silicon Valley. I'm also thinking he doesn't know his value quite yet. Her presence by his side might make enough social proof to get him more attention, possibly enough to make him snap out of potential one-itis.

They have no right to hold it against you. I agree in sentiment, but this is hopelessly naïve. Anything you say can and will be used against you at their convenience. Anything that shows past vulnerability on your part will kill off attraction at best, and is more likely to be used as emotional leverage on a whim in a future conflict.

As stated in other replies, tech firms will trip over each other trying to recruit certain demographics of CS grads...sometimes to the point of overlooking issues that would disqualify other candidates. The candidate is likely looking outside of a tech hub, failing technical screenings, or just being picky to the point of unemployment.

Dating gets easier, but I've found my threshold for bullshit is a lot lower. I actually had a better time in a medium-sized metro area (500k in California), prior to 2014 or so. Once I moved to a particular area of significantly higher density and famously ridiculous salaries, the bad behavior and entitlement went through the roof. My time is far too valuable to be wasted chasing flakes and no-shows. They can go grift some other simp making six figures.

Engineer here, recent grad. We already do encourage them, most that drop out either can't hack it or are simply more interested in other fields. Given that my degree has a 90% attrition rate anyway, the gender ratio gets even more skewed.
