It's amazing to me how many Americans don't see tipping as a bad thing. I don't mean going to a restaurant and not leaving a tip but in general why it's not a good idea. Here where I live, we tip ONLY for exceptional service, and even then it is never expected and always treated as a bonus. The food doesn't end up costing more, the staff is motivated and paid for their job AND there are no awkward tipping situations. It just works and doesn't screw the little man like it does in the US.
