To be completely honest, I am doing jack shit: I know I need to change because I am getting sick of myself (but not at the level you suggest unfortunately), but I don’t want to do the hard uncomfortable shit I know I need to do to enact that change. Am I destined to just crash again until I get so sick of myself that I get off my ass and do something? Or where can I get that strength and passion to do the work? Where did you guys get it? Did you just always have it?

I find it hard to articulate so I will provide a list of reocurring situations I find myself in and how I would like to act in them: * My dick is hard AF but my wife is sick/has period/is not feeling well. Instead of hiding it I tell her I want to fuck her brains out. If she groans loudly, tells me she feels miserable and is not in the mood at all, then instead of sperging out or feeling like shit I just say 'that sucks babe, it's fine' and go about my day. * I see a cute girl in the gym. Instea…

This is what I need more than a career switch, I need to recalibrate my whole approach to doing my job and the whole life. Thing is when I am not stepping on my dick I can be excellent in my job and I have the record to prove it. But more often than not I let my ego to get in the way of getting shit done and that reflects poorly on my performance. The same is true in my marriage and hobbies for example.

I would currently formulate it like this: I don’t want to be scared of myself anymore. I want to be a man who embraces his wants and needs, does what is necesssary to fulfill them, and also embraces the consequences of fulfilling them.

Relationships & Game Last week and the weekend before I had a very good opportunity to overcome a challenge and show some leadership. My wife got some health issues on Thursday: at first we thought it is a heat stroke so I did my best to manage fever and hydration, but after her maxing out CRP test I administered on Friday morning I rushed her to GP (I had to quite forcefully push her to schedule appointment because she was annoyed by some random feature of the scheduling app and I was not havin…

You wouldn’t believe it after going through my OYS posts, but my wife actually chased me down and put in a lot more effort than me in establishing LTR, enduring long-distance relationship, and finally getting married. Fun fact autist me at the time was convinced that she was just playing me (and I told her so) and she spent a lot of effort demonstrating the attraction is very real.

Because I only feel good about myself if every one of you fuckers approve of every stupid thing I do, otherwise I feel like trash and feeling like trash sucks. So first I have to go over feeling like trash, then discern feedback from the form. It gets easier over time at least.

I guess when I finally stop taking myself and everything else so fucking seriously. You see, quite paradoxically I can be disciplined about shit if I don’t have ego investment in them: like cold showers everyday, I don’t care about them , I don’t even care whether I do it or not. Yet I am able to hold this streak for 36 fucking days regardless of feelz because I just tell myself: “fuck it, let’s just do it, no big deal.” I hate that you guys are always nasty and helpful at the same time.

Hits home as I am sitting in the gym after workout right now. The program says 85 kg leg extensions, 6-9 reps. I am scared shitless, that´s a lot, I want to skip it. Guess what, those 85 kg will be there next time if I skip it, there is no way around but through. I gritted my teeth and banged out 9 reps. Was actually not that hard in retrospect. Now only to transfer this behavior beyond the temple.

Well this is where I am right now, maybe next week I will see things differently in time, maybe not. I read about the risk of being stuck in this phase or even going through it repeatedly. I take it as a journey, first I was clueless, then a dancing monkey, now an angry emo teenager. It depends very much what kind of lesson you want to take from him. What resonated with me are his remarks that even after 30 years of doing his shit he hates it and must sacrifice something to do it. And I think that is what I needed to realize very deeply, that everything worthwhile will require sacrificing some sacred cow I hold on to, endure a lot of discomfort and suffering to get somewhere and even then you are not entitled to just slack off. It's a considerable time & effort investment. I'm willing to put it in - if deemed necessary. Maybe I'll find out that the simple "just eat more bro" strategy works fine, in which case I can use my resources more optimally I thought the same a year ago when I started recomp with a coach, and now it is pretty effortless. Enter what you’re going to eat into MyFitnessPal (or similar) before you eat it. I enter it after the meal, but entering beforehand makes more sense because I can preemptively course-correct in case something is nastier than I thought. Also, figure out what works for you and eat it over and over. Food is fuel, not reward. This I need to remind myself over and over, there are still parts of me that think of food as a comfort and reward. At home I naturally converged to 2-3 dishes for breakfast, l…

Good point, still I need to discern whether my relationship to video games is “only” combination of a lack of self-discipline and desire to min/max (TBH I may be more addicted to all the guide/build maxxing ecosystem around the game than the game itself), or a genuine addiction feeding the hamster. I have set up an experiment to determine this, we will see the results in one of my next OYS.

Why is a work trip an excuse to lose discipline? I had a work dinner last night. Big, long, boozy steakhouse thing... I drank club soda and ate sashimi, a beet salad and a steak. During work trips I keep losing discipline/frame and hamster it away by saying to myself “oh others have the same unhealthy food so it is okay.” Noting the baked buns and donut too…why do you think what you eat doesn’t matter? Baked buns are ok nutritionally, they are more like mini-breads partially from whole-grain flo…

Better question is “are there any areas that are actually not affected by this obsessive need to min-max towards perception?” This is the bigger picture I was missing and need to address. Spot on on pointing out me wanting optimal answer to be best at everything and do not suffer conflict and failure. But take it off a pedestal. Just like alcohol, drugs, or women; games are not inherently bad they just may not currently align with your vision or goals for yourself. Build a frame that isn’t powerless or helpless at the world around him. That is a good point. So by removing the games now I experience an existential anxiety a…

I never played WoW or any MMO in my life, I had enough self-awareness to know they would ruin me forever if I started, but that´s not important. What is important is that for me games are much more than a hobby honestly, since I was a kid I played them mainly as a way to escape the reality and avoid facing my problems, the same as alcoholic escapes using his drug of his choice. And it is not just playing the game itself, it is also a lot of time consumed by obsessing over builds, best weapons, e…

Good point. I tried this in the past but the thing is, I get such a huge dopamine hit from playing them that trying to do everything else feels like a chore in comparison. It is just the way I am wired, everyone is different and you may be less sensitive than me. So after several failed attempts at moderation I came to the conclusion that it would be best to leave this part of my life behind.

That is one part of it, being in a long distance relationship also helped fuel the passion (yes I know RP viewpoint on this). I attend Adult Children of Alcoholics group and while sex seldom comes up during meetings, compulsive sexual behavior is one of the “strategies” we tend to manage our traits (it was compulsive masturbation and porn use for me). Have slowed down on my 12-step program as I have identified it as a source of mental/emotional instability, plus the ethos of it is very sex-negative in a sense, or places a lot of limits on it, i.e., guilt and shame about natural desires. I am definitely on a small/skinny side now but from my POV fixing the body was/is an easy mode. Fixing point 1, especially given the historical evidence in my LTR, is indeed the Hard mode this sub is about. But I can only improve myself and on the way collect evidence whether point 2 is true or not. -Well… there’s always going to be other “frames” in existence; either above, alongside, or beneath yours. It’s best to not be a tyrant toward other frames; instead, label them as “mere perceptions” which can be deliberately manipulated by you who is truly conscious about holding the true reality. As you should know, your frame is what you believe to be true about the world around you. That was badly phrased on my part, not from 0 to 100 but continually ramping up… For example making more innuendos and suggestive comments when context is conductive to that, more kino and non-sexual touch, flirting… but importantly, not tied up to my level of sexual desire (like before), but more like a continual slow drip since this kind of behavior alone can bring a lot of satisfaction to both parties. I am probably not getting enough protein/calories. Eating too many carbs but have largely eliminated sugar. This week, I have consciously upped my protein intake trying to get to 175g, but it feels like an enormous amount of food Then don’t needlessly torture yourself and buy some good-quality whey protein. 2-3 scoops per day provide cca 45-70 grams of protein and covering the rest with normal food becomes much easier.

Ask any of the guys who've made it out how many times they had to read the stories, meditate on boiled down truths, and be hit over the head with their own bullshit to finally get it. Even the old posts were just regurgitations of the shit before them, and them before that. For me as a newbie choking on the pill, any "regurgitation" is valuable because of the reason you stated: I need to be repeatedly smashed on the head with sidebar material to drive the lesson home. And even then, the old cond…

Thank tou for pointig it out. I see this kind of language as just a part of the process of finding my own voice on this sub. I came here not knowing much about myself and just aping what I saw other people write about, and I still continue doing that here, writing what is “expected” from me. But this week it looks like something is clicking in my brain and I am starting to actually think for myself. We will see in next OMS whether it is true or I am only bullshitting myself again.

Outside of a scheduled physique competition or a professional fight, most physical fitness goals you’ll do “aggressively” is bound to be short lived or a complete failure because it becomes unsustainable. But maybe you’re a unicorn. We will see, it is meant to be a short-lived stint for a week or two and then switching to a more sustainable deficit to kick-start weight loss. Oh Brother, your autistic brain is shining. You’re teetering analysis paralysis by putting too much to give a fuck about o…

True, proper post-mortem of some fuckup should always have discussion of next steps to prevent the issue from happening again. For this particular fuckup, next time I want to take a few moments before opening my stupid mouth and ask myself: “Is this really something I want to say for myself, or just to win someone’s approval?” and act in accord to the answer. To be frank the whole Mindset part of my OYS reads like approval-seeking rant and not up the standards upheld here.

Thanks for pointing this out, I was experimenting with the way I structure my OYS, clearly lost focus on myself and my actions and clearly let myself slide dangerously close to Rule 9 violation. In the end you are right it does not matter who said what, the essence is I still slide back to the old faggot ways but now I am at least more aware of that and can work on adjusting accordingly. Next time I will just write down the fuckups I made, that is what counts anyway.

12 steps Continuing working on Step 4. Because HEMA trainings conflict with my 12 step group meetings on Tuesday I will attend another online group on Sunday. MAP After u/Nikehedonist called out that I have too many projects going on and am unable to commit and prioritize, I took a long hard look at them and realized most of them are either not started or are on hold because I am waiting for someone. I did not learn before. On the other hand, I did not have the knowledge and the ruthless feedback I have now. Also I have this strong need to just magically get everything right on the first try and never make mistakes (another covert contract).

To take it back into the sidebar, yes, that's what happened because I made a MAP by answering the question of what i wanted without my wife in mind. Thats literally what OYS is for here, and what you did to achieve that potential outcome. This is very important point for me, especially the fact that I need to leave my wife or anyone else from the picture when crafting my vision and MAP. She is still lingering in the back of my minds, so the best technique would be just to imagine what would I do…

Also, and this ties nicely to the way u/Nikehedonist called me out, lot of these lies, entitlement, and victim mentality are so ingrained over the years that they become a subconscious automatic response. It is a big obstacle to me properly internalizing the concepts and mental models and I am thinking hard on how to be better aware of these beta behaviors. Unless I am aware of what I am doing then I can not address them properly. Journaling and getting feedback in OYS certainly helps but unfort…

I hate it when food holds me at gun point and marches down my throat all by itself. You're clearly a victim and not at all responsible for your own choices. Ouch, that hurt but I am grateful for you calling me out. The victim mentality is so pervasive even the language of my OYS oozes it. You're not prioritizing lifting and recovery. Instead of admitting this, you blame your circumstances for making you too tired. At the same time, you pat yourself on the back for doing an endurance cardio exerc…

That is true. I personally overcomplicate this because I am still riddled with covert contracts (this ‘build myself up and then I can approve of myself’ is one exposed here) and thus there is a lot of needless confusion about the whole process. Because let’s be honest it is hard to approve of myself when I am weak-willed lazy POS. But I can sense that by doing the work, owning my shit and getting feedback from you guys will eventually point me in the right direction.

Keep in mind that InBody is a bioelectric impedance measurement technique and so has significantly worse absolute accuracy than DEXA scan and is more useful for measurement of composition changes over time. If I would use NAVY method to estimate BF% I would get 17-18% for sure. But there is also a significant genetic component determining factors like shape of abs and fat distribution (based on measurements I seem to have above average visceral and belly fat distribution) so drawing some compari…

Is it this? ordered her to bed and fucked, just a quickie without any pretense. Honestly it felt good just to go for it, have some laughs and enjoy the moment. Or something else? What makes your dick work? I guess it is it, just go for it, enjoy the sensations, her body, explore each other not knowing what will happen next, how long it will last, who will and won’t come. Like when we were dating and just fooling around with no agendas and strings attached (mostly from my side honestly).

Why do you think the “why” matters? It matters for me to reframe the whole experience. In the past I used to frame this shit as a victim: “this happened to me as a child and it is who I am”. Now I am using this step to reframe the past differently: this was never who I am, I was made that way and thus I can remake myself in different image. this seems insanely reactive and retarded. You are right, in the hindsigth it is incredibly dumb. Better to build myself up in a way that I myself approve of…

“Pick your shit up.” is perfectly acceptable too. She can tell you to go fuck yourself, of course. I kept thinking about this in the gym and while I am in the process of internalizing assertive rights, I do not attribute them to other people. The covert contract is obvious nice guy shit (I do nice things for you pls fuck me), the entitlement is the part where I start to be direct (your “Pick your shit up” example) and then I expect…

I thought I track all the food but I realized I was lying to myself and was not tracking coffee with milk. One large unsweetened latte is like 200 kcal so that adds up quick. Will not drink that stuff while cutting. As for weighting, I weight everything when I am at home. When eating out I have to eyeball the ingredients which can underestimate the calories consumed.

I was drinking a combination of protein shakes and nutri-drinks primarily to hit 160 g of protein per day. Especially those nutrition drinks are pretty calorie-dense for the volume. I aim to lose cca 1 pound per week which translates to cca 400 kcal deficit per day, but I admit the progress slowed last two months, mainly because I gained weight during Holiday season. Thanks, we agreed with my fitness coach to try to first cut to 10-12% BF just to see if I can maintain abs, and then bulk up. Most of the lifts are done in caloric deficit so the progress is either slow or non-existent. Also some are limited by mobility e.g. overhead press.
