I get where the author is coming from -- she's in the weeds on these issues, and all the armchair criticism must be frustrating. I think we need spaces for venting. The problem with social media is that venting, calling out bad behavior, supportive comments, virtue signaling, policy discussions, and rational analysis all get smashed together into the same medium rather than getting their separate spaces. It's a system rife for misinterpretation and misrepresention.

I have not seen the update, but I remember seeing the original post. This does not read to me as a trust issue at all. It reads as a clinical level anxiety issue. Any work at FIRE, which seems to have taken the lead protecting free speech, since the ACLU fell off the wagon. They've also been at the forefront of protecting college due process.

Does your distrust extend to official data from the CDC/NIH? I feel like they do a good job of at least being transparent on what the data mean and how they're collected. There is still a lot of bad faith reporting on the data, and survey data are inherently limited in quality, but I think the CDC/NIH are fair in what they collect.

Women are 4-5 times more likely to be killed by an intimate partner, this is just fact. Where did you get that figure? Statistics I've seen show women killed by IPV at 40-50% higher rates than men killed by IPV. At least, in the US.

Redshirting boys (delaying their school start by a year) offends my egalitarian sensibilities. BUT I think the argument is made in good faith and with supporting research, so it should be taken seriously. Part of taking it seriously is identifying all of the positive and negative social effects of such a policy, so we can make good decisions. I'm skeptical that the good outweighs the bad, but I won't dismiss it out of hand.
