I don't think anyone would deny that confidence is a factor, but this didn't sound like a guy who was nervous before. I'm sure his confidence did improve along with his looks after 6 months of working out hard, but I would absolutely say that it seems the thing that changed the most was his appearance, since he sounds like he already had the foundations.

This here, this is the advice you want to take. It's just being a good person really, treating the guy like a human. Just try to be friends with him, make an effort. If he doesn't reciprocate then you can't say you didn't try, and he'll look like one of those guys who only hangs around girls because they hope to eventually get sex. I'm not saying that's the sort of guy he is, but there are basically two scenarios, if he is, then it's easy to seem more desirable (which you're clearly already doin…

People should do this, but not everyone will.

What makes it the gentlemanly thing to do? Why isn't it a ladylike thing for the woman to pay for it? It can be a nice gesture, agreed. But it shouldn't be the expectation by default.

Well that's what an opinion is, relative to the person who was it. So it's not too relativist, it's simply correct.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I prefer Pink Floyd over the Jonas Brothers, but to say that they are better is wrong. To say that I believe they are better is not wrong, since that is an opinion. An opinion is neither right nor wrong, it is just a perspective.

I'm not going to spend time writing out objectively why a band is bad or good Considering the idea of bad or good is completely subjective, that's probably a wise decision, though I would love to see you give it a go.

While I pretty much agree with your sentiment, I don't really think there is a 'crooked legal system' as much as I think people's perspectives just are so used to the women's rights movement having such legitimate points, that now, when most (but certainly not all) of the issues faced by women have been fixed, or are on their way to being fixed, people still believe women are under privileged, and men still have that advantage by default. The problem is that this isn't true, we are much closer t…

A lot of people visit this sub, and often people do so to find out what it is about. This content is about awareness, because a lot of people think that mens rights is not a real issue. Also, does it really matter if it is the character or the actor that people are obsessing over? If your point is that nobody would judge a man for acting like this over a 16 year old girl if they were just a movie character, then I have to disagree there as well. Also, I believe Taylor Lautner, the actor who play…

It's not in this subreddit because it's 'funny', it's here because it represents a serious double standard.

Well it's obviously not a simple black and white issue. Think of it from the other perspective, forcing someone who identifies as a female to use the men's room. While obviously neither situation is ideal, it is a difficult issue. That said, a lawsuit over it is pushing it a little far.

I unsubbed from MFA because, while great for formal wear, the casual stuff is really not so much casual, but slightly less formal. It's been a while so it may have changed, but it was very one tracked before. If you weren't wearing a suit that was tailored to fit you, they didn't like it.

There was a lawsuit where a man dressed in drag, and went to a bar. He sued the bar for not allowing him to use the women's bathroom, because he identified as female. THAT might actually be a lawsuit you could win.

Well, yes, they do happen, but these things have also been done by women as well, yet not all women have been branded as violent, or as potential rapists.

Let's not group all women together in that though, because what's the difference between that and grouping all men together as 'potential rapists'.

Talk to him, try and get him to stop- He might not even realise what he's doing. However, if you do find yourself in that situation, play it off as though whatever insult was thrown at you wasn't really an insult. Be untouchable. But always stay in a lighthearted mood when doing this.

No, I completely agree with you on those points, I should have been more clear in my original post anyway.

No, victim was black, received a sentence that was undeserved and unjust, in spite of having literally no evidence for the crime after the girl retracted her statement. I'm saying there was a chance of racial discrimination, not that it is conclusively the only possible answer.

It's not wild speculation, it's just that. Speculation. Never did I claim that racism is definitely involved, and denying that it is a possibility at all is just plain ignorant.

I would argue there is a high chance of racism being involved in this as well, making it a relevant addition.

Even better if you can walk up to one, and put one foot on the chair whilst resting your elbow on your raised knee and say "Hello, I didn't see you there."

Okay there's no way someone who looks like her has reactions like these. I'm sorry but I just don't believe any of that for one second.

By most relevant, do you mean most appropriate? Well it's incredibly complex issue, as each crime is different, with different intentions and repercussions. So I can't say what I believe to be appropriate, as it would depend. That said, if someone was convicted of 20 murders, I would agree with a life imprisonment.

When she was yelling "It's not okay to mistreat girls," I almost lost it. It's not okay to mistreat anyone, like she is. And even if the guy did cheat on her, like she claims, that's no excuse to be violent with him at all, let alone excuse her being as vicious as she was. I'm almost glad she struggled against the police so much, because that will work against her in the end.

They as in, the justice system. I should've worded it as "You can recieve multiple life sentences for a crime." You obviously don't literally serve prison time greater than the rest of your life, that'd be impossible. It's more to do with appeals for parols, and how long you have to serve before you can try and get one. I don't know the ins and outs of the system myself though, so I'm not really the best judge. Well, what I personally believe isn't really relevant, but in my mind, a life sentenc…

I'd take what you said more seriously if you could give me an example of women being 'more emotionally insecure' as a result of mistreatment at the hands of men, because at the moment we are in a thread about female teachers favouring female students. And yes, I know there is evidence of male teachers favouring male students as well, but when you compare the ratio of male to female teachers, it's clear which sex suffers more. And furthermore- In this subreddit, we are not the same as 'feminazis'…

This is the craziest thing I've heard in a long time, none of my male friends have ever burst into tears at being unable to find a blue pen. Obviously I'm generalising, but I would confidently say that as a whole, females tend to be more emotionally insecure and in need of validation from others, which doesn't have the mark of emotional maturity to me.

Well, while there may be some truth to that, racism is still very prominent in a lot of society, and does affect a lot of people. Racism exists in several forms, some of which include hate crimes, theft and expected stereotypes. When it comes to a matter of preference, a large amount of employers will hire a white person over a black person with equal qualifications. That idea of companies having a "token black guy" actually happens, so that they can seem more diverse. However, when someone talk…

Feminism in theory is a great cause- Equality. In practice, it seems to become, "Women are superior to men because we used to be mistreated and demand more rights!"

No, it isn't applicable to everyone, it is an average. Which, when you don't specify details about each individual involved, is what you're going to use, because it is the most likely scenario. That is the point of averages.

I can't believe that the prosecutors were able to deny his request for a more advanced DNA testing. And it took another 5 years afterwards for results? The fact that a man can be convicted of rape because the woman says he did it, with next to no evidence sickens me. I know that she was raped, and don't get me wrong, I hope they are able to successfully convict the real rapist, but if this sort of thing keeps happening, what's going to happen? How do you prove innocence in something like this?
