I didn’t conveniently leave anything out as it wasn’t a question that was asked. I was simply addressing the commenters suggestion that old men are pushing their wives out the doors so they can get younger women. I’m sure that does happen, but it isn’t the primary reason for divorce. And men aren’t the ones initiating divorce in most cases. THAT was my point. There’s lot of additional data I could provide, but I’d be moving the goalpost around like the commenter (and you), but that generally sho…

That’s a conclusion you’re drawing on your own. I was just pointing out that your original statement wasn’t based in any form of reality; the divorce stats simple provide support (see use of the word “modicum”). They don’t prove anything on their own. Men and women aren’t monoliths, but you (and the OP) seem to want to believe they are…

I never said the person who files for divorce is the cause of the divorce. The data to dispute the basis of your argument(s) exists, but you seem to want to operate from a position of feelings versus fact.

Who hurt you? But again, your most recent statement would have a modicum of truth to it if infidelity were the dominant reason divorce was initiated (hint: it isn’t). Or if men and women didn’t experience infidelity at similar rates…

You’d agree that there are different variations of feminism, yes? Based on what you’ve written, you seem like the old school “equity feminist.” I personally have no issue with equity feminist because they don’t vilify men and they argue for equality, not advantage. It’s “gender feminism” (or radical feminism) I take issue with. And while this subreddit has its share of narrow-minded viewpoints, one thing I appreciate is that people like yourself can come voice your opinion without immediately be…

Interesting data, thanks for sharing. I couldn’t find a reason/theory for the decline in male homicide versus female since the 70s. What am I missing? Edit: I saw your context in another response in regards to shelters and reducing escalation and it makes sense, but is that your theory or something someone else is proposing?
/r/MensRights19/04/23 02:16 AM

Can you share where you’re getting the data regarding the 70s IPV homicides? I’ve never come across data that supports that. And as far as serious injury, ER stats support that notion. And from a logical perspective, it makes sense. In a fight between a 5’4” 120lb person and a 6’2” 210lb person…who are you gonna put your money on ending up on a stretcher?
/r/MensRights18/04/23 08:55 PM

You are absolutely correct that IPV related homicides skews heavily toward women. And it’s a serious problem. You’re also correct that social-economic status plays an important role in IPV in general (very much related to exposure during childhood). However, your statement points to something I touched on earlier - it’s how we talk about this that highlights what we care about. Like I said, many many studies have pointed out that IPV is pretty symmetrical, yet that’s NOT the narrative anyone hea…

His IPV stats aren’t off. IPV violence statistics are tough to pin down on purpose. Depending on where you look, they’ve likely cherry-picked the data to fit whatever agenda they’re after. Gotta secure those federal $$$ ! There have been many, many studies that have indicated IPV is gender symmetrical. Serious injury is skewed toward women just given the physical differences between men and women. Sexual assault is also skewed toward women. I THINK this is the study he’s referencing: https://www…

I was blown away to find out my own state also allows corporal punishment in schools. Even more blown away to discover that about HALF the states in the US still “allow” it. “Allow” because most don’t exercise it (district rules), but still…how have these not been overturned throughout the country?!

Anyone here watched “Stutz” on Netflix? It was eye-opening as far as how different some therapists are. I’ve been to dozens of therapy sessions with a handful of therapists and I had never heard of the tools that guy breaks out in the FIRST SESSION! And I always ended up quitting therapy all-together or switching because I didn’t feel like we were doing anything other than talking. As the political left and right have gone more and more extreme, anyone who doesn’t “toe the line” is vilified. Gender/radical feminism is the name of the game on the extreme left of the political spectrum, so you better repeat the rhetoric if you want to be part of the club. Otherwise, you’re the “enemy.” I tend to avoid the topic in real life, but will always correct people with statistics/facts when certain things are brought up; I’m just never the one to bring the topic up…

You’re suggesting that judgment about physical attributes is something that only women experience. And its almost laughable how misinformed that is. You’re also suggesting that men are the only ones who judge - they don’t. A research study about BMI showed that women were the harshest critics across both genders. And labias? I’m a dude and I have never, in my entire life, ever heard another man discuss labia size. I don’t doubt that those folks exist, but generalizing that across “men” is extrem…

Boys aren’t born “masculine,” whatever the hell that even means. Testosterone DOES play a role, however, because it effects the way boys’ brains develop. Boys develop more slowly in just about every stage (before and after birth). Boys in utero are more likely to be effected by their mothers stress levels and even if she suffers from depression. After birth, boys’ brains don’t come equipped with the same level of emotion regulating chemicals, thus they tend to require more attention, care, etc. …

I figured it included IPV, but even that doesn’t jive with the other stats from 2021. 2021 stats total up to over 500k just for abuse, but “offenses” that includes family AND children is only 82k in 2012? The 2012 list is “arrests,” but I figure the original stats have to be based on that too, no?
/r/MensRights02/03/23 08:34 PM

This, as a whole, is depressing as fuck… But it definitely highlights the generational impact of fatherless homes and extreme poverty. Those kids are going to be more likely to be homeless, attempt suicide, do drugs, end up in jail….the list goes on…
/r/MensRights02/03/23 08:27 PM

Just curious why we’re looking at data from a decade ago? Also, this says “offenses against family and children,” which leads me to believe that is different criteria than what is being discussed above. I’m not sure what “offenses” means in that context and I can’t find anything on that page that explains it. Do you know?

There’s some truth to this, but the results of combat vary WIDELY, person-to-person. I know people who have seen and experienced things in combat that are unimaginable-and they’re fine. I’ve also met people who never left the FOB, but a rocket impacted 1km away and they’re a mess. One thing that seems consistently true, however, is that people who’ve never experienced combat are at a disadvantage when trying to help those who have experienced it, as they try to continue on with their lives. I think you’ve watched too many war movies. In the last couple generations, US service member deaths at war were rare, when compared to the number who served. Valid point. I can see why shaving everyone’s head occurs, but there is no real valid reason it isn’t done to women. I know WHY they don’t do it, buts it’s not for reasons that make for a good argument…
/r/MensRights01/03/23 06:33 PM

That’s incorrect. Anyone is capable of a combat role. HOWEVER, the standards should be the same. And if the standards are the same, the number of women will naturally be less because combat roles require a level of strength that is not as common in women. If you can’t pick up and fireman carry a 200lb person who’s wearing an additional 70lbs worth of kit, I don’t care what genitalia you have - you don’t belong. You must not be a father. Good thing… You know, you have a lot in common with radical feminists. One of the biggest issue’s with radical feminists is that they don’t call out toxic behavior because the toxic person shares their set of genitalia. Think feminists rallying behind Amber Heard. Here you are, going off the fucking rails because someone pointed out toxic behavior by a father. GOD FORBID! You’re the opposite side of the same coin. It’s the horseshoe theory before our eyes!

Holy Christ, my guy. You win the victim Olympics. Happy now? The letter specifically mentions the shitty treatment from the girl’s father. Was it only his fault? No. But that’s not what the post says. It simply suggests that men be good fathers; making it clear that fathers are an important part of children’s lives - we have an effect! This whole topic is a nightmare driven by politics and emotion, more so than science. Since I have no skin in the game, I try to steer clear - it isn’t worth the headache. One case that doesn’t get a lot of attention, which I find interesting, is the case of Quinn. A Canadian National soccer player. I kind of see it the same way I interpret older generations saying things like: “back in my day, I worked 18 hours, 7 days a week! You young people are just lazy!” It’s the “I suffered, so must you” mentality. I do think that life as a woman 50-100 years ago came with some serious, important inequalities. But those inequalities have been, for the most part, eliminated through social and legislative change. But that change has now highlighted inequalities in the other direction. But instead of be…

The articles leave room for national defense and military service, specifically. It’s why many countries can have conscription baked into their constitutions. No one is arguing that it’s unfair only men are obligated, but it’s still not violating “international law.” It would make more sense and be truly equal for countries to mandate “able bodied individuals” for drafts versus just men. Women can pull triggers and push buttons just as effectively…

International law does not supersede an individual countries law. The UN Declaration is not binding…it’s more of a “suggestion.” It’s used as a foundation for fundamental values.

What I’m trying to say is that humans have emotions, regardless of sex. But women learned the same lessons as men when they were children: boys don’t cry. Interestingly enough, there’s a study showing that that stereotype is more often reinforced by mothers versus fathers.

I can’t tell if you’re purposefully being obtuse, but I’ll assume the best in this case. I was speaking metaphorically about the US in particular. Women didn’t have all the rights men had 100 years ago. Shit has changed since then, which is why I find the “crush the patriarchy” shit here so dumb. Again, you’re focusing on something more related to class than gender. It’s modern day slavery and there are indeed women (mainly in domestic service industries) that do this too. Unfortunately for men, most of the “jobs” available require strength because they’re the shitty manual labor jobs. Even if a woman could do those jobs, a country like Saudi Arabia is extremely gender role oriented and won’t even hire women for those roles. Look man, I’m not here to play the victim Olympics. That is patently false, especially if you consider basic freedoms as part of the “better” equation. Quality of life is a lot more than simply “surviving.” It’s not to say that men don’t suffer in those places too (class is always an important factor), but it’s about the rights afforded; men simply have more freedoms/rights in many of those countries.
/r/MensRights07/02/23 04:59 PM

I’m gonna have to disagree with the assertion. There are plenty of examples throughout history of patriarchal societies; many Muslim countries exist that way today. Hell, the US had remnants of it until half a century ago (ie women couldn’t open credit cards without men’s approval, women couldn’t serve on juries, etc). A lot has changed in the US since so the “crush the patriarchy” argument is pretty irrelevant.

Correct. Because despite what women say, they’ve been conditioned by society the same way men have. Now, it’s not to say that ALL women react negatively, but in my own experience, it’s always been an unpleasant experience. Awkwardness, infantilizing, silence…I avoid at all costs…

As I said, all military service come with risk, but it varies SIGNIFICANTLY based on one’s job. Front-line, “boots on the ground” combat type work, which is historically dominated by men, carries a lot more risk. It’s a fact, not a feeling.
