Do you have an agreement in place regarding disposal of income? For example, I can't change beneficiaries on accounts and insurance, can perform reasonable spending for maintaining quality of life, but can't make large purchases or dispose of property.

Well, except for me not knowing about it and grieving the loss of my buddy.

My wife actually told me she was waiting for our dog to pass before initiating the divorce because she didn't want to deal with splitting custody.

How so? I'm not talking about bad energy. I'm talking about respecting the person you are asking to marry. I wouldn't regift flowers. If I thought enough of somebody to try and spend the rest of my life with them, I would put some thought into getting something for them, not using a castoff.

Unless it's a family heirloom, don't recycle an engagement ring. If you care enough about somebody to get married again, start with a clean slate.

As a UK fan I have a complicated relationship with Pitino. Also, since he ran around cheating on his wife, famously leading to a testimony about it in an extortion prosecution, I tend to not mix him into relationship stuff.

Are you willing to evict her if she doesn't pay rent? If not, then it's a no brainer to not do this. Also, any common friends, friend groups, family from her side that you want to remain on good terms with? Because if you ever have to treat her as just a tenant, expect her to try and poison those relationships. If it's truly an amicable split, then this might be a workable idea. That said, I can't imagine it will end well. I wouldn't do that at all. If you want to be a landlord, then let her buy…

It's great that you're concerned about your friend. However, I think the only thing you can and should do in this situation is stay out of it and be there to offer support if it goes poorly. People are different. Was I ready six weeks after my wife asked for divorce? Hell no. Can somebody else be? Hell yes. You don't know the circumstance. You don't know how the last few years of that marriage were. You don't know that person's emotional baseline. You're operating without information, and you're…

It used to be that suing for alienation of affection was a more viable tort in many jurisdictions. I don't know MS law, but if it allows for the defendant to request a jury trial, I imagine it would only be seen as a nuisance claim. I probably wouldn't take the case (at least on contingency; if you wanted to pay a wildly inflated hourly I don't want to mess with this hourly fee, then sure).

Sure. Frequency has lessened, but I'd say about once a month now. Weirdest things trigger it. Started to reread a book the other day, and it just hit me. Welled up in tears. Five minutes later I was fine.

That's awful. I recommend joining r/cancer if you haven't. Those folks really helped me when I was going through it. Just chatting with people that had the same surgery that I would have helped to calm me down. Also, you are going through a lot right now, and if you respond to the business of cancer (because it becomes like a second job) like many do, you won't really process it until after your treatment. I firmly believe that I wouldn't be getting divorced if I had gone through therapy after t…

Same here. She's an introvert with less investment in relationships. I'm an extrovert that tries to foster relationships. Just got finished hanging out with some friends. My STBX-MiL told me that the STBXW had been hanging out with the wife of said friends, but turns out that's not been the case. TBF, not sure she's hurt by the lack of relationships. But if she thought that it was as simple as deleting me from her life and then business as usual, turns out it's not

Congrats/Sorry?!?! I was going in this afternoon to sign the petition for dissolution at my attorney's office. This morning I got an email that my wife signed a petition yesterday. It's bizarre.

Avoid Phuket. I've heard that Ko Samoi is a much better alternative if you want beaches. I really enjoyed Chang Mai. Didn't really care that much for Bangkok.

Pretty sure my wife is having a midlife crisis and is depressed. The reasons she gave for leaving were I: was too fat, didn't unload/reload the dishwasher enough and put my feet on her when we were on the couch. Did the counseling thing, and she'd show up to the appointments and little else. She asked for the divorce. I got a puppy. My attorney was working on the petition today. It's gonna be ugly, because we have stuff to fight about. But the dog doesn't mind when I put my feet next to him.

I don't even know where my wife is living, but I know who she is using, so my attorney should be able to get adequate service. Also, we are both lawyers with lawyers, so I'm sure this will be smooth.🫣

Here is my response to a similar question: I've had three major life events in the last three years. First was cancer. Second was my doggo passing. Third was going into a divorce. All my friends were there for me for number 2. Number one and three I've gotten the same type of response from about 70% of them. "That sucks." "Tell me what you need (that I won't show up for)." Mostly, I figured out, they wanted me to stop talking about it. And they are pretty good people for the most part. But peopl…
