Maybe the first step should be to stop blaming your parents and take full responsibility for your state, your parents aren't stopping you from going out, from educating yourself, from a hobby that you desire and from working out, it's all on you, maybe it is true what you read from your sources, maybe you were born with problems you didn't choose, but you realise that, so if you don't make an effort to fix them it's 100% on you, stop putting on your parents to not feel guilty

I think that it's pride, or a sense of self righteousness, I'm not going to say I was like that because I'm still like that, I think he (from my experience) is trying to stay true to his principles, what he deems good wich is something you should respect him for, unless this is not his true self and he's being nice because he thinks that's what's going to get girls for him.
