University is for the candidates that are most likely to be successful at university. While success in high school is one indicator of likelihood of success at university, it is not the only one or even the primary one. This is not even necessarily a social justice issue, it's just statistics. This can actually be part of merit applications. Poor people don't have the same resources (tutoring, family support, etc.) that others have. 1	Help me understand, what are the law-related issues that men face? Could you not make the same argument for men, like in blue collar jobs? You could, but it's not as strong. There has been a big push to get women into male-dominated fields, such as engineering or medicine.
