Those are such big assumptions on most of the work being in English. In fact, some of the most relevant and contextual work on Atlantic Slavery is in Spanish and Portuguese. Only look at Bartolomé de las Casas's writings for an example.

But the Greek, Arab and Roman worlds had libraries and "universities" and great scientific communities and they all held slaves, of all colors, for hundreds of years but we don't focus on that history when talking about slavery, only on the transatlantic trade it seems.
