Perhaps you fail to see that their ideals in practice don't actually correspond to the traditionally ascribed ideals of their political label. They are redefining the popular definition of liberalism (again). So to be clear, we must distinguish modern liberalism versus classical liberalism.

Maybe you are unfamiliar with American politics. Classical liberalism is the antithesis of authoritarianism.
