Unexpected, unwanted kids ARE problems. You're missing the entire point I'm trying to make. I specifically said if the woman will not abort or adopt, due to personal/moral reasons that are not for anyone else to try and change. Sex between a MAN and WOMAN makes a baby. Therefore, both are equally responsible. Both took part in it's creation, both (possibly, likely in the case of accidental baby) fucked up by not using protection. The discussion is not about planned children, or children in a rel…

I don't mean pay for the whole life of the child, just the time leading up to, and maybe shortly after, the birth. Because the fact is that the baby, whether intentional or not, is 50 per cent the fault of the man. Just saying "I don't want that, good luck" is a dick move. The woman is every bit as unprepared as the father, only she's STUCK with this kid (if we assume she has moral leanings against abortion or adoption). It's not fair that a problem, caused equally by both parties, can be entire…

Oh, I don't for a moment mean the father should have to actually have a role in the child's life. That would be a terrible idea. But I do believe that, if the woman keeps the child (as we cannot morally force her to not do), the man should help finance it during pregnancy and possibly the first short period of life. Parenting and financial support are different things.

I have to disagree. It doesn't benefit the child for two unprepared people to have a shitty situation bestowed upon them, especially one that costs so much. But then if one of the two responsible runs off, it really screws the child due to lacking finances, if nothing else.

Yes. Scumbag. Have a sense of dignity. Anyone who pulls shit like that, doing nothing but causing those around him serious trouble, is a scumbag.

I agree. It's ridiculous for a man to have to pay child support for a full 18 years. But I do think it is reasonable for the man to help the woman out during the pregnancy and possibly first year (or so) of the baby's life. After that stage, it is entirely possible for her to find other means of support. Also, if the man first decides to stick around, and then jumps ship when the child is still an infant (not talking legitimate breakup/divorce, more like 'shit, this was a bad idea, I'm out') I d…

Fair. Let me clarify, firstly, I was meaning to include adoption and abortion when I said 'get rid of the pregnancy.' I worded that poorly. And I do believe women have a right to chose to be a single parent, but no one should ever be abandoned and forced into it. It is a disservice when the man doesn't want to be a father, but the woman is unable to raise the child alone. A woman that chooses to be a single mother is generally prepared for it. A woman that gets knocked up in a situation where th…

Agree. I clarified in an edit up there. An opt-out agreement would be perfect, but an opt-in would not work.

Definitely not that. A baby takes a LOT of planning and preparation. A woman can't just assume the dad will/won't be around and still manage things. If daddy decides to show up days before birth, that scumbag has skipped out on thousands of dollars and countless hours of learning and preparation. Edit: Opt out would be a great idea though. Then it is set in stone what will be happening. You just can't leave it open to guessing and assumption like an opt-in system would be. You opted-in to being …

See, a woman who gets rid of the pregnancy gets rid of the problem for everyone. No baby, no worries. A man that just skips out on the woman he knocked up is leaving this woman alone with a problem that is 50 per cent his fault. Unless you are trying to say that men should have a right to force women to have abortions, this comic just isn't very logical.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
