Not really. There’s one friend who I would consider to be relatively close to RP (we agree on many topics,) however she is still career-oriented >> family, out of what she calls “monetary greed”, and won’t allow her husband to fully support her yet even though he is responsible and financially stable. As much as I would love a group of girlfriends who share the exact same values, I’ve grown to realize that offline this might be difficult.

This used to happen when I was living in my hometown. There was always this implication that I was “dressed up” (and by “dressed up,” I mean a skirt or dress instead of grey sweatpants…) When people would ask me about it in a malicious way, I would tell them the truth that I’m not “dressed up,” I simply do not own clothes that I dislike or that I feel disheveled in. I feel best in feminine clothes, and it makes no sense for me to own clothes that I feel uncomfortable in. My idea of casual or dai…

Yes, the order is cleanse, moisturize, SPF. The idea is that you’re creating a fresh/blank canvas for everything else to be applied on top.

I’m glad if it helps! For moisturizers, I’m a little stuck too, since I’m trying to use up all the skincare products I have “in stock” at home before I go out to buy more, and honestly none of them are recommendation-level. (If anyone else has any recommendations I’d love to hear them too!) For cleansers, however, I’m always going back to my faithful Japanese drugstore products. I’m personally based in Japan but Asian skincare has boosted in popularity so it should be available online if you’re …

The acne on your back could possibly be due to a couple of reasons: 1) you are washing your body before your hair, meaning that products like hair masks/conditioner etc are left on your skin or 2) the frequency that you wash fabrics that come in contact with your skin such as towels or bedsheets, isn’t enough to remove acne-causing bacteria. (It’s actually very common, and something that I’ve experienced myself, so nothing to be ashamed of!) For manicures, they are not supposed to be painful if …

This entire arrangement seems like one that has all the benefits for him, and very little in return for you (both emotionally and in terms of workload distribution.) First, I understand that you want to take responsibility for any mess that you create whilst you are technically a guest in someone else’s home. These are basic, good manners, and do not need to change. However, I find it interesting that you want to implement an entire roster system when you do not even live there. Cleaning up a fe…

It kind of hurts to read that he “isn’t interested,” in things like cooking or chores, when it can be implied that he directly benefits from your efforts in doing such activities. I’m not pushing the blame on you here at ALL, but I think by cushioning what you say with “it’s not that exciting/interesting, but…” he may be switching off before he even has the chance to hear you out. What you’re doing is important, it doesn’t need to be prefaced. I’m newly stay-at-home and my fiancée LOVES hearing …

I’ll be totally honest with you, there are some aspects of self-care that I absolutely do not enjoy, but I do so anyway as a way of respecting myself, the people around me, and also because I like the outcome. (More so than the process.) I think a lot of women will agree with me that actually, going to the nail salon (for example,) is not at all enjoyable. It’s actually a bit of a chore. So much media presents the salon as a kind of enjoyable, relaxing, “me-time” activity, but for the most part,…

Just last week I gave the exact same advice to somebody else on a different thread (“Sometimes men care about different stuff than we do.”) It seems I’m happy to give others grace but I’m always so unnecessarily hard on myself! Thank you for the reminder 🫶🏻 Also you’re absolutely right! I didn’t even have to say anything but I think he could tell I was a little overwhelmed. He told me to be by his side and relax… I read while he slept :). A couple of days later he started to feel so much better.…

Not only is it about the lack of consideration from your partner, but the in-your-face lack of respect from this so called female “friend.” What kind of woman is okay with this situation knowing that the man is in a committed relationship? Says a lot about her too.

If he actually wanted to marry one of the women in his circle, isn’t there a chance he would have done so already? They may be beautiful, but beauty is not all it takes for a man to fully commit. Do they have the same kindness, attentiveness, consideration and thoughtfulness as you? This is not something that can be achieved by wealth or social background. Even if they do happen to have positive virtues in terms of character (I hate the early 2000s movie trope that feminine, wealthy, generically…

Please please please stop offering to pay! I know it’s difficult, but once you establish that he should be paying, it will feel a lot easier and more natural to let him take the lead for finances like this. Back when I was a University student, I was also in a relationship with a man who was working. (I was not, and living off a student loan.) At the time I was still so young and I felt guilty, or as if I had to prove that I also had something to “offer”, which I thought could only be expressed …

I’m so sorry to hear that your situation isn’t what you wished it was at the moment. I was actually in shoes very similar to yours at the end of last year: Single, living alone (and by alone I mean completely alone, as I immigrated abroad alone), complicated relationships… plus working jobs that made me feel utterly miserable and useless. I won’t tell you that things “happen for a reason” because sometimes life is tough and challenges us just because it can. However, now I’m SO thankful that thi…

I think the recent post about OYS may be what we’ve been looking for! Sharing our thoughts/small wins/tips etc could make it easier for us to have more frequent, everyday interactions. As much as I love RPW, I wish, as you said, there was more space for everyday life/ chit-chat, knowing that we all share similar values. Other threads tend to be asking for advice or friendly debate, which of course is fine, but sometimes I just want to feel like I’m having a coffee and a catch up with my girls si…

I always plate the first dish since he eats more than me and I already have a good idea of the amount he’ll be happy with. I’ll happily go make a second for him, but if he insists on getting it himself, I use it as an opportunity to see the things he picks more of or if he happens to leave anything (especially if it’s a new recipe.) It gives me a hint about the things he likes without me questioning him while he’s trying to eat - though we do often talk about his likes and dislikes too.

I’m in a similar situation, which led me to make my Reddit account! I’ve been reading the RPW posts for months but never contributed, until my own lifestyle changed and I recently quit my job, moved away from the city, and became full-time stay-at-home. My man always assured me that I would be accepted in the local town/community because it’s small and close-knit, which I have been and I’m very thankful for. However, I soon realized that the neighborhood has a relatively aging population and I h…
