I'm 34 and my husband is 48. Tbh, 65 isn't as "old" as it used to be. 8% of marriages in western cultures have an age gap greater than 10 years, so you're definitely not alone.

"Not that uncommon" doesn't mean the same thing as "common". It's still uncommon, but not all that much. At least a couple of people in this thread are in similar relationships and I know a few in my day to day life too. It's less uncommon the older you get.

I mean, you're not wrong. I think younger people think it's a lot more uncommon than it is. When you get in your 30s and 40s it's not that uncommon. Whenever I mention my age gap with my husband (14 years), people usually know couples with similar age gaps or sometimes are in a similar situation.

There's a world of difference between "no that uncommon" and "the norm". Common enough that at least two people in this thread have similar gaps (you and your GF, me and my husband). Whenever I talk about it with people, almost everyone knows couples like that around them or is in one, especially as I get older. I think depending on your age it varies a lot how common it is (couples in their 30s & 40s seems more common)
