And my response when they do the latter is always, “Oh; gotcha -rape is funny. Odd.” And walk away. “Oh; gotcha -child porn is funny. Odd.” And walk away. “Oh, gotcha -cheating is funny. Odd.” And walk away. “Oh, gotcha -violence is funny. Odd.” And walk away.

Learning about how intermittent reinforcement works is is something that helped me; my therapist was spot on. Intermittent reinforcement in relationships is no different than what keeps people sitting at the slot machine well after all their resources are depleted. Edit: Link spelling

It can be really cathartic to write it all down; it’s a way *of purging. Just know that the more obsessed you are with him and exposing him takes away time you could be healing yourself and finding the right person. Be glad he’s moved on and don’t worry; he’ll come back when they dump him. First, ask yourself how much more time and headspace you’re willing to give this guy, and then Block and Delete.

I’m honestly unsure, but I’ve been banned from my feminist subs because I commented here, which I find distinctly controlling in a very UNfeminist way!

I am married and have been prior to FDS, but I can more quickly dismiss LVM in friend groups, better appreciate the person I’m married to, and reevaluate behavior patterns when needed. It also makes me super happy to see younger women (I’m 48) valuing themselves and taking charge of their own lives and esteem. It’s a win for me!

What happens when they get your pics, get your email, and then you rebuff them? That leaves you open to a bunch of nasty hate messages by men who already are objectifying you for your looks. Our info -in general- is so easily obtained. They’d have your email and could easily look you up online between a simple google reverse image search, your email, your name -she’s opening you up to potential stalking. You might consider being way more concerned about this than you are. I’d be very honest with…

It’s a little strange to me because in my era, women would just expect me who weren’t available to knot be at the club -which is totally and infuriatingly the way many men saw me when I just wanted to sit at the pub with a great book, online social networking, and to even left alone. Thanks for giving me something to think about!

Same. I once dreaded a date so bad that people on my social media were begging me not to go and one of my biker friends offered to come drive from an hour away to give me an out. I literally did not have the tool, and by tool I mean the appropriate word: NO. Or even “I’ve changed my mind.” He was a clingy person, and he wanted me to drive an hour to pick him up because he had no vehicle. When I finally said no, he flipped out. And then I realized where all the anxiety had come from. I already kn…

I empathize with this so much! I once called a guy I’d been seeing for six months on the phone and about two minutes into the convo, I heard gunshots in my neighborhood. I’d honestly say a place like meetup dot com because the activities are non-date related. You actually find people who do similar things that you do. Make friends with similar interests. Do stuff. Ask if they want to go out an event together. Like develop a friendship. If it’s important to you for women to pay half, just ask to go Dutch.

I love my grandpa even though he was paranoid schizophrenic; likely because as a kid, I didn’t understand what was going on. My Dad has some mental illnesses and I just miss him the way I idolized him as a kid. Partners? I’ve dated four men who were bipolar, two suicidal. I promised myself I’d never do that again because I’m empathic and I lack the appropriate esteem, boundaries, and self control to be able to emotionally detach when necessary. It reminds me of sort of ‘re-owning’ your body, though and that has to be some kind of liberating. Like taking back control. It sounds painful, but cathartic (in a positive way) to be able to reshape yourself somewhat back to a state that was stakes without permission. It really sucks though to have lost not just cosmetics but functionally. As a child who was in and out of foster care with the consent of bother parents, then my mother; adopted with consent of both, and reversal, and who later was placed again for foster/adoption when my father finally stepped up to come get me, the most loving thing my mother ever did for me was give me up so I didn't have to grow up in her corrupt care.

First off, you're a condescending fuck. I could give a shit why you receive a disability pension -as do I other than I actually served and you apparently didn't. Second, I never said disability equates to a wheelchair; if you cannot figure out a correlation, that's on you -not me. People with Down's Syndrome can be just as valuable to a war doing task others cannot or will not do as people in wheelchairs can be mindfully or physical better capable in one regard versus another. The fucking point,…

Nice to know you have no problems admitting to completely missing the point. If you think the military's drafts men in wheelchairs before they'd figure out a way to draft women, you're daft.

It's obviously not obvious. I'm atheist; people accommodate religious beliefs all the time and to varying degrees -think 'Closed on Sundays.' It just so happens that Chridtianity has held the standard majority. We accommodate Jews, we've learned to accommodate Jehova's Wtnesses, etc. being Muslim isn't much different. If the university wants to be inclusive, they can work it out but it should include available seperate times for both genders. If they don't want to be inclusive, then nobody shoul…

Feminist, here; yes, some of us are outraged and would prefer equity -especially those of us who actually chose to serve. I vividly remember being pissed -at age 15- that the govt didn't want me in their 'selective' service rosters. I enlisted at 17 and turned 18 in basic training.

Feminist, here; I think it would be great if men could have some men only hours too, and I think if they approve the woman's request based on religious belief, males of the same religion should get seperate time, too. Let the m/f trade off on the times so that neither group is stuck with 2-4am hours forever. I think if the majority of users have no problem being co-ed, then the majority should definitely get the best times.
/r/MensRights06/03/15 02:42 AM
1

But to me, I thjnk it's a valid request. If the request of women, based on religious belief, is accommodated, why not also accommodate men. Or is the goal to deny both?

/r/MensRights19/12/14 07:39 PM

You're missing the point that not everyone's hormones are a) secreted at the same levels for bodily efficiency and/or 2) the way the body reacts to the hormones that actually are/are not being secreted efficiently. Most people truly cannot starve theirself to death; hormonal urged and instinctual processes prevent it; in some people, those same hormones are out of whack from genetic and/or enviroental factors.

I think the most difficult thing to deal with is the condescension and belittlement that runs rampant in both movements. It's just so unnecessary. It's great to look at things as a whole. But I don't thinks it's always as effective for change. I think we must see individual needs and engage in discourse at individual levels. We all have a good idea of how history has brought us here; how can we make it more fair to everyone moving forward to create balance in the places where it's needed.

We disagree. It is not neutral when people portray women as hormonal, childish, tantrum throwers; it is harmful, and it is no more comedic than the ad portraying men with health needs as childish.

I think the reason women aren't socially defeminized is because society expects women to behave that way -which is just as harmful. I think the comments about this ad, in particular, are spot on. I'll be adding to the not buying it app.

Glad these men are being given separate air time; I loved seeing the men in the project, initially -obviously I wish there were no men or women- but speaking out and the project giving airtime for the men to do so. I'm glad they are included in the overall project; at the same time, I think it's really important for people to start becoming famiar with the faces of male rape so that it can be better acknowledged and addressed. Kudos to these folks for raising their voice!

Thank you for sharing the links, and I will certainly read those that are still working. It doesn't change my perspective on statistical data. People present what they are looking to prove. In the case of the thread you shared, to shut people up (not sure who; doesn't matter.) Every Marine unit I was ever around when I was stationed at Monterey, California, for starters. At the NCO club, there was always a First Sergeant there to make sure they stayed in line. In reading this response; I'm wondering if the woman you're dating may have triggered feelings from the incident you posted about -namely, if you felt them that nobody stood up for you or even acknowledged your responses and feelings as valid, it seems like your current dating partner may have brought those feelings bubbling back up with her behavior of casting your need to be understood and acknowledged aside -even if you never expressly discussed that particular situation. Your experience certainly puts things in context for me. In my household, shaving was expected; to be unshaven was to be scruffy -unkempt. In the corporate arenas I've worked in, it has been the same dynamic. This is where I draw the parallel toward shaming, because women are often taught the same principles -that to be unshaven, especially in places typically visible in the workplace or public, is to be ungroomed -unkempt.

Completely incorrect. A child who is not forced but plied with gifts and special treatment is still considered rape. We consider it thus because they are developmentally unable to consent. The same with different levels of mental capacities. The same with patients. A lack of 'no' is also not consent. Sex absolutely does not have to be forced or have the threat of force to be rape.

LogicFail. You can find someone attractive -even love them- and still be raped by that person. Using your logic would falsely confirm to those who disbelieve a man can be raped by a woman that only sexually unattractive people could rape you and that if you are in any way sexually or emotionally attracted to your rapist, that it cannot be rape. Exactly, so in order to change the 'norm' both must admit that some thought process exists aside from the perceived norm. It has to be challenged. When someone says, "Men are valued for..." it is absolutely up to each of us to challenge that and acknowledge that though the speaker states it and though may be, those that do not fit into the norm must be acknowledged. Wait, are you seriously ignorant of the words you throw out there to make your 'point.' That's what the party became about when Hitler took over, yes; that is not how the party originated. It is the same concept of the swastika -what was once defined as a symbol of luck became tarnished by inappropriate use. If I talk about a berserker, I speak of the Scots, when most use the term berserk, they simply mean crazy. One is not 'more right' or 'more wrong' than the other. It is perspective, educatio…

Yes; and as a linguist, I can tell you that words as well as their meaning evolve over time and are interpretable based on regional, cultural, and perspective-based use.

The problem with this line of thinking is that it doesn't account for women who choose not to have children -or families. The bigger issue, though is this: Why should men also not get time off work for children? Men should have just as much right to bond their infants as women. It helps create a more healthy and better balanced family unit.
/r/MensRights24/02/14 04:05 PM

Well, when you label me, you negate me -or when you attempt to remove it, as the case may be. It's pretty simple, really -it's not your job to label me or to unlabel me, since your doing so is and will always be perspective-based.

I went through an angry period where I reevaluated a lot of what I'd been taught were my goals in life that just didn't work for me. Never wanted my own kids, never fit in with 'the girl' crowd, had no interest in remarrying, etc. I started reading quite a bit of feminist writing, but the underlying anger, while at first empowering, became unsettling. I asked a few women in their fifties, including my therapist, where I could find educational writing without the anger. As I went through the proc…

Because I do not speak for men's unique experience any more than men should speak on behalf of women's experience. Men need their own voice and to be heard without women speaking for their experience; the same for women. My voice is intrinsically feminine; I am less educated toward humanitarian plight. I do self identify as a humanist, but not with a disregard toward -or erasing of- the feminist label, since the feminine experience is what I'm most familiar with.

Dozens if feminists do not represent all feminists any more than dozens of rapists represent all men -or all female teachers who sexually abuse their male students.
/r/MensRights22/02/14 11:59 PM

I was not taught anything about feminism in any school. I grew up in the desert Southwest. Try not to project your own experiences with feminists onto me; we are all different people with different perspectives, intentions, and attitudes. I lay claim to both the feminist and MRA titles, actually.
/r/MensRights22/02/14 11:57 PM

That is not how I choose to approach feminism. I acknowledge that is how you perceive it, though. I support the lifting up of women and men out of binary gender stereotypes. The two concepts (women being allowed to step up and men also not being stuck within their roles) are not mutually exclusive to me. [edit: typos]

Then what was the point of asking? You want info, but won't research because you don't wan to support the link -that's understandable; you want a men's rights voice to be heard that sounds more like your own, but aren't interested in making it heard to others who might benefit. Respectfully speaking, I'm not seeing the relevance of Utah other than to be argumentative.

As a feminist, I understand the power of that phrase. I agree that gender should not be stated. I should think it comes from concepts of preserving the species by preserving more baby incubators and less men. It riles me. As for the image, men ordered men were to let women go first -that's not a woman's fault; that's men's logic. Women have certainly had more access to become fire responders in the more recent decades. My mother fought to be a fireman in the early 70s. She had a gender neutral n…

If it wasn't such a big deal, you might've immediately told them to get out and informed your GF and whatever faculty you work for of what happened because you'd have been more indignant than afraid -jmo. At any rate, understood the point of giving in to blackmail. Injust really think writing a negative letter or involving the police will turn their intentions ugly, and frankly, they have more proof than you. Writing a negative letter will just increase your anxiety. Can you honestly find nothing valuable in their work? Why would you invite poorly-performing interns to a personal party? I guess at this juncture it doesn't 'to matter. If you can find something worthy if referral, then it's not capitulation. Unfortunately, even if she is referring to leering, she wrote something else on her sign which equates leering (yes creepy and sometimes downright scary,) with a physical act of sexual control and possibly violence. The comparison maximizes the discomfiture of one act by minimizing the experience of the other. As a rape victim, this is my opinion of it, anyway.

wtAbsoluteFUCK is your problem with comprehension? I never said men do not face repercussions; I said men can, and I don't have a problem with it. let them. The difference is that the majority of men don't want to wear skirts; but of course for those who do, I support them. Fuck that.

Any part of the body can be sexually sensitive; that does not necessarily mean the body part is a sexual organ or reproductive organ. Your statement that if someone punches you in the chest, that is sexual assault because your nipples are sexually sensitive doesn't hold true any more than someone giving another person with a foot fetish a flat tire does.

cunt punt? What are you, twelve? There are no men-only spaces? Where in BFE did you grow up? I'm a member of the local Moose Lodge -it is a fraternal organization. Women are allowed if sponsored by another woman of the moose, but they cannot simply decide to be a member of the organization. On a side note, I'd have no problem with you using the women's restroom if you'd like; in fact, I'm extremely partial to unisex bathrooms. It means you should challenge those notions of 'mother earth,' and such. Until women's rules are the dominant requirements, then no it's not matriarchy, but some do exist -and they are just as oppressive to men as patriarchical societies are to women. It's stupid to declare men the protectors and providers in this day and age. If men want to -great; and if they don't, let them be so long as I have the same rights to provide for myself. (Typos)
