This is why he does it for me- I moved in with my mom and stepdad last year and they did the same, so he is continuing the tradition for me. It’s been 7 months so I feel confident it’s not love bombing, he’s just a very good egg :)

I just commented this on the other reply, too. Can totally see why it would be a red flag, but it was minor things like ‘her favourite drink is Dr Pepper Zero’ and then he would buy me some lol. Sorry that this happened to you! Men can be shit!

I can totally see why this would come across as strange in an actual relationship though, as it would suggest he has more than one person to remember things about to me! I appreciate you flagging :) gotta look out for one another!

Not particularly but I think he just wanted to make a good impression and commit things to memory :) I found it very endearing. He doesn’t do it now, he just did for our early dates :)

Lol which bit? He’s not weird, he is very kind and caring and is putting in max effort :)

I completely agree with this. A lifetime of no orgasms is a solid no-go, but I will sometimes not be able to due to other factors. Missing one every so often isn’t the end of the world, but missing every single one is just depressing!

These jokes always hit a nerve with me now!

My friend’s husband is a OBGYN and a very hvm. He chose it for this exact reason- On a weekly basis he gets completely different challenges, from advice clinics to surgery to delivering babies. He is kind and caring and is doing incredibly well in his career- I’m certainly not saying that this is the case for all of them, but there are clearly some who go into it for genuine reasons :)

Even at the height of my pick-me days, I would NEVER have accepted someone who didn’t love my (currently non-existent) children. Why would anyone accept bringing their child up in an environment full of awkwardness? If they have another child (which they shouldn’t because of this entire list of reasons), how will kid number one feel when kid number two gets treated differently?

My ex didn’t have to and I had to tie his tie for many years of our relationship, but had to do it on myself and then put it over his head. Still took me loads of attempts as my school tie was always ‘fashionable’ (eg very short and fat lol) rather than a formal tie!

Exact same thing. Genuinely thought I was a bit broken before that (lol)

Amazing! I am also treating myself to aligners in 2021, treat yo’self!

Oh I certainly didn’t think you were negating my experiences at all, just sharing my perspective of a ‘time vampire’, although I don’t believe that was his intention the whole time. I certainly didn’t have FDS, but I wish I had as I feel so many of the problems that occurred in our relationship would not have been an issue if I had found it sooner. Of course, when I’d been gone for a while he offered the marriage and children and security id always craved but it was just too late. We live and le…

I spent 9 years waiting for marriage. 9. Fucking. Years. Sometimes I would bring it up and it would be a ‘someday’. Sometimes it would be a ‘we are happy as we are’. On occasion, when at a family or friend’s wedding it would be an ‘I want this for us’ or ‘ours wouldn’t have blah blah blah ’. On the day to day I was happy enough, he was my best friend and we had a grand old time (we had been together since late teens so a part of me realised that waiting until we were a bit older was more sensibl…

I also only got a nurse holding my hand. Worst pain I’ve felt in my entire life, lasted for 24 hours and no trouble since. We do need better pain management for this!

I’ve been struggling with this. Spent 9 years with my ex and can’t shake my old pick-me mentality that ‘if I keep working’ it will work out. I am very driven and I hate the thought of having ‘failed’, so I have spent a lot of counselling learning how to stop blaming myself and move forwards! I hope your friends realise the same x

All of these stories have genuinely shocked me! My last straw in my most recent relationship was my ex telling me, after 9 years, that he still ‘didn’t know’ if he wanted to marry me. We got together super young (18) and I had been really patient for a long time because I knew he wasn’t totally ready. We had a great life together for like 90% of the time, but I just knew I needed more than what was on offer. A real shame as nothing bad happened, just an unfortunate growth in different directions…

I’m a Brit and it’s definitely used more as ‘dickhead’ than as misogyny, but it is incredibly offensive and most people avoid it (unless you’re a London gangster in a film, obvs)

I hate hummus- it always looks good, and is well presented, but always disappoints me. I’ve learnt to stop ‘trying again’ and officially moved on from hummus- I just need to learn this skill in other parts of my life now :’)

I’m sorry that this happened to you, and that you have first hand experience of the damaging language used. We must be the change we want to see in the world.

I could probably add loads, but the two that stand out for me are- -when we first started ‘dating’ I was only 18, and I was so desperate to see him that when he called me in the middle of the night I went running to him. This snowballed into me picking him (and his friends) up from nights out when they were too tight to pay for taxis. I let it happen for about 8 years before I levelled up and realised I was being ridiculous! -with my first ever boyfriend, he would complain if I ate with my famil…
