Yeah, I always welcome a good discussion. I don't even mind being proven wrong. I welcome it. It means I'm learning! Unfortunately, too many people argue with emotions, straw man or just flat out deny culpability. The phrase "look it up" pisses me off (even when it's a reasonable statement) because of these jerks.

We don't have civil eviction in Florida. We do have something called Florida Unlawful Detainer which requires a formal filing. The recipient then has 5 days to respond. Once the process is complete, an eviction date will be assigned. It can be quicker than a Lanlord eviction but it still takes time.

In Florida, you have to file the eviction. You can still give notice by writing on a paper but in order to get the police involved if they refuse to leave, you have to file the notice. Once the eviction is public then they have no excuse. Also, they get 30 days here. Even with a lease, they legally get 30 days. A non-renewal of the lease before the last 30 days of the lease acts as notice.

Not if she lives there. I've seen owners have trouble removing squatters because once a person lives there more than 50% of their time then they have certain rights. You have to formally evict, even if they pay no rent. At least that's the law in the state this took place.

Yeah that's gross...to say the least.

The law focuses on intent as well so without knowing if she had intended to do harm or simply didn't care if she did, it's hard to know how severe the punishment should be. I do agree that if she did it knowing it could cause harm, then a harsher sentence is warranted.

I see that. I do understand why people are upset but I still think it's worth thinking through instead of jumping to extreme things.

I'm curious if any of that actually crossed her mind. I wonder if she realized how much risk she was placing on others.

Because teenagers are often dumb. I did my fair share of dumb stuff as a teen. I hope I didn't potentially risk any lives like she did though. I think as teenagers we don't really consider consequences properly.

Also, isn't jail meant to be about rehabilitation? She should realize that what she did was very wrong and be punished but for the purpose of teaching her to think before she does something stupid. This thread wants to burn her at the stake and it bothers me. She is a dumb kid doing dumb things. We were all young and dumb once. Granted, what she did was bad but 20 years seems a bit much when some murders get the same. Edit: after looking into it more it seems she recorded this and others decided…

Yeah the goal of exercise is to keep your muscles strong, including your heart. Losing weight happens with food. That's why it's best to have both in a healthy measure.

The argument against that is that the money is for the child, not the mother. For the sake of the child, who had no choice in the matter, both parents are required to contribute. I just wish they'd come up with a birth control pill or shot for men. I always feel bad for men because despite the down sides of living in a female body, one thing I never have to deal with is a guy coming to me to tell me he's pregnant. I agree that having children should be a choice by those who create it but the pla…

I am having a lot of trouble locating the sources for your statistics. Do you happen to have links? Thanks!

I meant that they are primary care givers within a two parent system.

I wonder if the statistics favor mothers because they tend to be the primary caregivers. Also, that 911 call was brutal to listen too. She was so flat and matter of fact. Meanwhile, my stomach was in knots and you could hear the dispatcher trying very hard to stay focused and keep her on the phone. Those moments where he goes silent almost as if in shock are hard to hear.

"My husband wanted a divorce and wanted to take my kids. And I don't want him to have my kids." What....the...fuck. So them being dead is better. I can't imagine how anyone could even consider this. The last thing those kids saw was mommy attacking them. Ffs. I hate this woman with my whole being.

I agree that context is important. It's a problem when it's unwanted. It's not a blanket thing. We don't know the context of this. They could have planned this as a joke. As long as both consent then it's not sexual harassment.

I think the distinction he is making is between looking at women and seeing them as attractive with an interest in who they are vs. women are only the bodies they inhabit (I.e. Objects) The former is viewing women as a whole and the latter is viewing them as objects to be viewed.

Third paragraph: A judge sentenced Seabury to 18 month probation. She must also register as a Tier II sex offender and have no contact with either the victim or other children.

Her reasoning infuriates me. There are women who endure actual rape and suffer immensely as a result. She used it as a tool to get a few bucks. Women who pull this shit put themselves at risk for Cried Wolf situations. If she is ever actually raped, no one will believe her. Not only is she fucking up an innocent man's life but she is risking herself and the ability to pursue a future rapist. I really wish people would think before they act in such a way for something as common as money. You have…

The problem here is that there is no programs for female offenders so they just let them go free. That's disturbing.

You might want to check our Wittgenstein's language game theory. You might find it interesting. You have to be careful assuming that intellectual or formal language is the only correct one. It is a type of language often used in academic setting but it is in no way the "correct" form. Language is heavily cultural and is constantly in Flux. A linguist will tell you to consider your audience when using language. Reddit is not a formal setting, nor should it be. It's great that you care enough to l…

The literal definition "the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men." No where does it say "man haters". Anyone who says men are worse than women or men are inferior, are not feminist. They are anti-feminist. Feminists, by definition, believe in equality not inferiority.
