We are looking at the perception that career alone generates. Obviously other factors play a big part in how you come across, not just career. This isn't a personal attack on those working in IT, many of whom likely possess far more desirable traits than I possess myself. IT seems to draw in those who are introverted, who have poorer social skills and who have fewer friends. This is characterised throughout popular culture. In television shows and movies, programmers/hackers/tech support are usu…

Stereotyping exists and can work against you. If 95% of IT workers someone has associated with are betas, you better believe they're subconsciously sizing you up for the beta tag. To take another perspective, if you meet a liberal arts student, you're going to assume they're effeminate Bernie BLM LGBTBBQ supporters until they prove you wrong. I know IT is a lucrative and interesting field, but we can't dismiss basic human nature.

Even if you don't get officially married, you're still fucked if you live with your girlfriend, have children, etc. My dad moved in with a women after my parents divorced and I saw him once a fortnight for the weekend. My dad's new girlfriend probably looked after me a handful of times over the 5ish years they were together. She cheated, and they broke it off (dad punched the guy, but irrelevant to this anecdote). Basically because they had cohabited and she had performed 'home duties' like look…

I'm Australian and everyone I know thought that this incident was extremely over-exaggerated by the media. Unfortunately most companies, sporting bodies and other organisations have little choice but to try and be as politically correct as possible lest they end up in the news for 'sexist' or 'racist' behaviour. In their thirst for ratings, the media is helping left-wing political groups gain momentum in their constant pursuit to correct some perceived wrong, no matter how irrelevant and inane i…

This right here. From hypnosis books to advertising books, women are always seen as the most gullible and receptive to techniques of influence. It's almost as if that second layer of reason beyond their primal brain hasn't quite formed to the same extent. If you can hit the feels button (which is often possible within a split second), any logic is easily hamstered away to comply with that initial emotional feeling.

Absolutely brilliant point - should be at the top of the thread.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
