The women turn into highly desired unicorns and the men now have to pay twice the cover charge to get into clubs.

Was there no way to cancel the alimony? The CA attorney I spoke with said that while technically it's lifetime typically the courts will want the spouse to become self-supporting after a few years, so it's common to file a Request for Order to reduce/cancel alimony.

Don't notaries keep record books of all the documents they signed? It wouldn't show the prenup contents but it would confirm that you had one notarized.

A lot of this depends on state law, so you will have to talk to a local attorney. It could be that you are entitled to a fixed amount of spousal support payments from her.

Your might be on a timer here, depending on state. If you were to divorce right now a judge could look at her previous income and take that as her baseline. Wait a couple years and a judge might consider a lower baseline since she's been out of the work force - that would mean higher monthly payments for you to make up the difference.

We had one female counselor who seemed balanced- sometimes more supportive of my wife's POV, sometimes mine. Wife didn't like her so we stopped going. We tried another one and she kept questioning me over several sessions why I insist that my wife with her PhD ought to find a job. That rubbed me the wrong way so we stopped going. Wife went to a male individual counselor who kept egging her on against me - fortunately that counselor got dumped as well. In total we had 5 female counselors and they…

That's a nice sentiment but good luck finding such a third party. The counselors we've gone to were not much better than a random redditor - and some were worse.

Same here. After >11 years I am slowly starting to get my wife back. For OP: it's basically losing your spouse and gaining kids. That might make up for it a little bit. If you don't care about kids to begin with though, that's a net negative.

I am a CS guy but I have no idea what you are trying to say in your post. There are 45 blank emails and you think those somehow contain encrypted data? What is your suspicion based on other than a weird time of arrival? If it's a regular HTML email then yes it will contain references to HTML and MIME types in the source which is typically not shown in Gmail but can be turned on.

I have a low opinion of therapists. Some are harmful and most are simply useless. My experience was similar with repetitive questions and no real suggestions. I think as a sounding board or for venting to a stranger they can be useful - but don't expect them to be helpful otherwise. For some reason there's an almost religious belief nowadays that therapy is useful - if you point out that it wasn't then "you haven't found the right one yet". Ironically you also have people saying how they "found …

"She continued seeing him even after she saw you crying, that’s just complete disregard of your emotions. Does she feel remorseful? Do you think she understands the extent of pain she caused you?" She apologized for causing me pain, but to be honest, I am not sure. Seems like she gets it on a rational level but not on an emotional one. Leading up to this her friend and father had both just died so she was an emotional mess. She is extremely aware of how others feel and always tries to make sure …

My wife started crushing on somebody but it wasn't a real affair. Still though - it was painful. At first I tried telling her that the constant swooning was hurting me, which she completely ignored. Then a few months later I broke down crying and told her that she needs to stop hanging out with that guy. She mostly did - but now there were deleted messages on her phone and still occasional meetups. Eventually I told her I had gone to a divorce attorney - that's when she finally stopped. The thin…

There's one upside here and that is that she is the primary earner and will have to pay you spousal support and child support. What comes next is that you call all your local attorneys and get a free consultation from them. Write down estimates for any assets you might still have (401k, equity) and her income this past year.

Sexual abuse is the term that NBC was looking for. “I’m a good and genuine person,” Zamora said. "The prosecutor asked the judge to sentence Zamora to 27 years in prison." What kind of prenups / terms are enforceable and cannot be voided by a court later? Obviously if you already have a ton of money and property then excluding this from the assets via a prenup makes sense and should be straight forward. But I would guess that only applies to few people.

Going to disagree partially with this; we've been to 5 counselors over the years and only one of them acted the way you described. Notably he was a guy, whereas the women seemed more balanced. It's still likely a waste of time but I have not seen too much of counselors enabling the bad spouse.

I donated a good amount of money to left leaning anti-draft groups in Germany back in the 1990s. Their legal approach was to get the draft shut down because of unconstitutional sexism. Of course the conservatives fought this tooth & nail and then the draft was put on pause making it moot. It's disappointing to see progressive people trying to bring it back now- how the tables have turned.

I am equally offended by the Cazuelas marketing team milking it for all it's worth. Why didn't they pay him extra, why does another guest have to do the gofundme? Having a second child (and the way she dealt with it) has caused a ton of resentment on my part and was the beginning of a major rift. Basically she became depressed after I said "one is enough". Eventually I felt so bad for her that I relented to try for a second one, thinking that if I make huge sacrifices she in turn will do the same for me. Instead it turned into more of a "screw you, got mine". I love my kids, but I have no doubt the relationship would have been a 1000% better without a sec…

It's emotional affair territory. I've been on the receiving end where my wife got attached to another guy and even though there was nothing romantic it still hurts as hell when your partner ignores your feelings. Something to consider: what did your wife tell you about that friendship in the past? What were the warning signs you could have acted on?

How can she claim that the daughter is with her all the time? If the custody agreement is 50% then that would be a violation, right? Anyway, it's nice that she announced her intentions which means you should keep records / a calendar of when you spend time with your kid and dates when your wife is late for hand-offs or other irregularities. I think the CA attorney I spoke with mentioned revisiting spousal support payments after 3-5 years. You are looking at 1 year which might not go over so well…

To me it sounds like moving elsewhere is a red herring, that's not really what you need to agree on. (You say his family is nearby which should be a major point to consider and would also be beneficial for raising a family, so don't trivialize that aspect). The real issue is whether the two of you agree on having children or not. You can't have half-children so there's not much of a compromise solution here. Either you both agree that not having kids is acceptable, or you both agree that trying …

I have a low opinion of therapists. Some are neutral, some are harmful. However, my company's health insurance includes a number of $15 sessions so I made use of that. Just venting to someone for an hour a week who's intently listening was quite soothing and helped with panic attacks.

Spousal support has no automatic end time in CA, but can be modified via court orders in the future. Spousal calculations are based on recent incomes, however your attorney could try to argue that those need to be modified either because your recent earnings were an outlier or because she is not making an effort of finding a job that pays market rate. All other assets acquired during marriage (401k, house, investments) are assumed to be sold off and split 50/50 if you go to court. Your attorney …

Really depends on the counselor and the couple. I would go with "can't hurt" (except your wallet). Individual counseling on the other side _can_ hurt, my wife's counselor was egging her on like a redditor. Still trying to undo that damage.

Child support is fixed (based on percentage of parenting time), but spousal support could be negotiable. The attorney here in California that I spoke with said that even though my wife is SAHM right now the expectation from the courts is that she would have to seek employment. Burger flipper at HCOL makes $40k so my income would be offset by those hypothetical $40k.

a) Shut up and get an attorney to do the talking for you. b) Keep a written record of what you do for the kids with times / dates / activities. The attorney can then tell you what you are entitled to, whether the courts in your area might be stacked against you, and negotiate a suitable offer letter with your input.
/r/Divorce_Men10/09/24 09:47 PM

Right now you are operating on hunches. Go and have a 30 minute conversation with an attorney who can tell you what the divorce process would like and what the financial impact might be. Having this information can be very liberating. Afterwards check if your health insurance offers free / discounted counseling sessions. Use them either for individual or couples counseling.

"You should be in jail for a year but you're a father, so never mind about that" - think that would ever happen? Also the judge and attorney try to frame her as "remorseful" - completely ignoring the fact that she left the pub and was hanging out at a supermarket after her assault.

Question for you: how did you deal with custody before and after the move? Living in a HCOL in California I don't see how I would be able to even afford staying here if 70% of my income was taken. On the other hand moving to a cheaper state means there's no way to get 50-50 custody, right?

You cannot change the relationship on your own. You can change your bad behaviors but that does not mean she will change hers. My wife just had a similar reaction and is currently the affectionate woman I met 20 years ago, but from experience I know this will fade after a few weeks. Right now I am still trying to find a way to save our marriage, but went to see a female therapist (not that there's a choice since there aren't any men in the area). "The law required publicly held companies headquartered in California to have one member who identifies as a woman on their boards of directors by the end of 2019." I see a loophole.

I'm more annoyed by the author of that piece throwing around social media numbers, as if those are relevant. "an account with 900,000 followers", "another comment with 59,000 likes.", " amassing more than 9.7 billion views "

Well, the author's naive worldview is that the women in her company are following the honor system and would never, ever take a day off unless it's necessary & justified.

Not a good idea- if the symptoms are strong enough to warrant a day off you shouldn't be forced to go to the doctor just to get a piece of paper.

Yeah, the author had to go through some mental gymnastics to justify her "this man can't take period leave because it's confirmed that he is not a trans man".

We have a few snowflakes at my company and the way I deal with it is just using their name - no need to remember which pronouns they have opted for this week. Others don't do that though, so there were a couple of instances that caused unnecessary confusion when it was announced that they were working on a large project. It wasn't clear from context that "they" was just one guy and not a group of people...

That article is terrible. But BuzzFeed News today exposes how prosecutors routinely fail to follow these rules as they send vulnerable women to prison. Our investigation can reveal: At least 200 women in the UK have been prosecuted for lying about being raped in the past decade, according to a BuzzFeed News analysis of press reports. Most of these women were sent to prison, dozens of them with sentences of two or more years. So people lying to get others sent to jail end up going to jail thems…

Just to make sure it isn't too hard on her it's actually "2 months that can be served on weekends".

This is how the article should have ended: "The court then ordered her to go to the victim's former employer and publicly announce to everyone there how she has been framing him, had him arrested and that he is completely innocent. Before going to jail she was also sentenced to paying his lost wages."

Thanks for the additional info. I still think the cop had some ego issues but got lucky in capturing a stupid meth head.

He wasn't patient at the beginning though. If it was a driving infraction and getting license & registration was important he should have started with that instead of "Get out of the car!!"

There is a link in the article with more information. Different US states use different language: rape, sexual battery, or sexual harassment. Florida apparently calls is sexual battery and the woman is charged with: Sexual Battery by Custodian (2-counts, F1), Offenses against Students by Authority Figure (F2).

Yes. Both are terrible. That's the point.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
