She wants a salve for her conscience now she's finished having fun. She's had her cake and now wants to eat it. She didn't deserve the hearing and it was well within your rights not to give it to her. Being the "bigger person" can be code for being a doormat. I think you made the right call. To be honest, I'd have probably twisted the knife a little, saying that you know about her behaviour at the time, you've moved on and don't believe that people change enough for any conversation to be worthw…

Covid gave me the excuse to get through some of the cheap and nasty aftershaves I'd collected. They're excellent for enforcing social distancing and deterring / killing mosquitoes and other flies.

I use a more citrus scent for day and a deeper scent for evening. I also go with parfum, mainly because I'm not going to be reapplying it. I wear them 99% for me because I like catching the occasional smell, it simply makes me feel good. It is worth smelling both types, I've not got either yet but I remember vastly preferring the smell of the EdT of Sauvage over the EdP, which was annoying due to my preference for EdPs.

I've been reading up on storytelling and humour. You start with a seed, the more boring the more challenging it is and you build out from there heaping in as much exaggeration as possible to make things interesting, unexpected and to communicate that you're just having fun. Breaking it down: Subject: "I don't know how to do that" Seed: Putting up a shelf What can go wrong? Damage wall, damage self, do it badly. Ok, going with "do it badly". Shelves are supposed to be straight, so this one isn't.…

A lot of it is mindset. I need to pick up dancing again, but I found that if I went out and was in a carefree mood, everything just worked. I was still pretty terrible at dancing, but laughing about it with my partners was an icebreaker we could connect over. If I went in thinking about how lucky I was dancing with a stunning girl, I'd get tongue-tied, dancing would get even worse and everything would be awkward. My best tactic was to generally relax and not take anything seriously and play mind…

Well done with the salsa dancing, it's a great way to meet people and get more comfortable being sociable. Generally, people won't approach you, that goes double for girls. You've got to make the effort. Practice making up silly stories you can tell in 5 seconds, or better something that actually happened to you down into 5 seconds. Make everything an exaggeration. Don't put all of the pressure on yourself. Ask the girl questions which will allow her to tell stories. What was her first house lik…

You know, that's just what my cousin said when I suggested he put up a shelf. He was right, it looks more like a ski slope, I swear the thing's at a 45 degree angle. Still, it's a really interesting feature, even if his fish is getting serious anxiety issues. My downfall is parallel parking. What are you really bad at?

If your current conversation is like a detailed report, make it more like a cartoon - bold colours, simple concepts, big interactions. Get her emotionally involved by putting words in her mouth or thoughts in her head that are exaggerations or different to what she'd think to draw her out and get her on the amused defensive.

"A man will break a pane of glass because he likes the sound. A woman will break a pane of glass because she wants what's behind it." If you're confused about what a man is thinking, it's likely because you are over-thinking his decision-making process and his intentions were very simple (or he is doing something "just because"). I'm not saying that we're stupid by any means, just uncomplicated, which can be very confusing to someone whose perspective is commonly trying to balance a dozen feelin…

It comes down to the two golden rules - Be attractive / Don't be unattractive. The problem with most harassment is that it is entirely subjective. Many definitions come down to "If a person feels they are being harassed, they are being harassed." We are in serious trouble as a species if we can only legitimately approach one another in a confined set of social situations defined by an unrepresentative minority. To me, any fair definition of harassment must include the continuation of an upsettin…

I wish I were on a 50/50 chance of a positive outcome! btw, the chance of 1 or more positive outcomes in that scenario is 99.90234% if I have my maths right. I'd take those odds. :D

That sounds like the gambler's fallacy. "I know the probability is 1 in 10, I've stuck out nine times, so I must win!" Alternatively maybe the risk has actually reduced - you have no pride left to lose ;) Ok, I'll be nice, you've realised that a knock-back isn't a loss at all. This is true. You are absolutely right, the more events the more certain you are of seeing an outcome. It's just that this video isn't a great example of it. It is a great example of showing that people are irrational. Tha…

You guys need to shift your perspective a bit. The mathematical basis of this test is just shedding a clear light on something we all do. Loss aversion is a real thing, it isn't just people being bad at maths. The risk of losing something increases its perceived value even when in a situation where the exact value is printed on the object and the risk is well defined. "It isn't just $10, it's $10 that I have and that makes it feel worth more like $20 to me." The whole point of this set up is tha…

Actually it is very scientific, just not in the way it presents itself. Look at other stuff that Derren Brown does, it is a mixture of psychology, trickery and BS. The face-value science here would only be credible to a media-studies student. It is scientific in the same way as Strictly Come Dancing is a dance competition or The Apprentice is to actually find an apprentice. If this was a genuine attempt at science, you'd be right, there are all sorts of extraneous variables here. However, it isn…

Yup, typical Derren Brown. He uses established psychology and then rigs the deck even more to virtually guarantee the result. Smart guy (and presumably supporting team). It is good example of the halo effect, but not a good demonstration.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
