Who you turn out to be is 100% your choice. That being said, changing patterns and learned behaviors from childhood takes serious work. It is absolute possible, but you must be very intentional about it. I would recommend seeking a therapist and talking through some of your past history. They can point out patterns you may be too close to see. It can give you a starting point for how to identify a behavior you don’t like any start changing it into one you are proud of.

I am so very sorry that happened to you. Rape is a really challenging thing to move forward from, so please don’t feel like you have to rush yourself. Take your time, find an awesome therapist, and it can help you take back your own sense of power, confidence, and comfort when it comes to sex. The journey may be hard, but there can be healing.

I was thinking the same thing about making his fav dinner and dressing up.... You are not only showing him that it’s ok that he treated you badly, but that he will actually be Rewarded for it!

Not healthy at all. Total disregard for you, and only treating you like something he owns. Conservative, liberal, whatever...this isn’t ok.

I’m sorry to hear that it has been so difficult. Transition and change can be so jarring, even if it’s caused by a wonderful thing. That being said, I want to caution you to look out for red flags of non-loving control. It concerns me that he is isolating you from your family and friends. That is a Huge red flag, and it is often the first symptom that shows up in a domestic violence relationship. Especially when the reason for the isolation is couched in an excuse about strengthening or focusing…

My mom made me an old-school recipe box for Christmas a few years ago. She filled it with all of my favorite recipes growing up. One of the best gifts I’ve ever received. When I come across a recipe I really love or that’s a total hit, I hand write it on one of the extra index cards and add it to the box. Only the best ones make it in.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
