I'm... trying to make it work in my own life. And tbh, it is going better than it is going poorly, and I bet I have a skewed view of everything because I am always harder on myself/am expecting a higher bar than I am when judging others (which can be an internalized part of this all!) Part of the solution can be to stop doing some things. Not the most essential, but for example I finally just gave up attempting to keep this house to my standard with two teenage boys (both w/ADHD) and a dog that …

conservative That's the core of why this stuff comes to the admin's attention. It is a low-hanging culture war win. But reddit is like a hair's breath away from openly banning conservative ideas at any given time these days.

I can totally relate! Because I have ADHD... and my solution was to get my butt medicated properly. Now I'm only kinda a disaster 😅🤣 For a more realistic suggestion, really whatever works no matter how janky it might be. I used to leave scraps/pads of paper around the house and always carried a pen so I could just quick jot down anything I needed to not forget. Soon enough I'd be back around to that room, see the note, and then do something with it. I always meant to get a big corkboard in my st…

With compassion, this is a fuzzy line. We can often have trouble with husbands because we approach stuff like "family time" often differently. We often feel like our presence in the family isn't optional, sometimes because our other halves are much more adept at taking time for themselves without that guilt we seem to carry like it or not. I'll admit I'm in a similar place, and my own husband begs me to take time off for myself but I have such an issue with what feels like "slacking off" and I e…

The evil part of my brain is on fire right now with devious ideas, so I totally get it. But we resist the devil's whisperings for our own sakes, the sakes of our families, our friends, and our communities. A year or two from now you'll be glad you didn't blow things up any worse. Of course, if someone were to hypothetically ask me why I broke up with an ex... I mean... I try not to lie 🤷‍♀️

The very, very, very sweetest revenge is to go forth and thrive. Get your ducks in a row, personally (non-mode, whatever you need) and then go have the life you planned... with someone else. Honestly, considering the details of what happened I sincerely don't blame you for considering this. Hope he eventually is truthful with himself and finds a nice guy to settle down with but that's none of your concern. Go live. Go thrive. Go set yourself up to be the best woman for a different, better man.

The whole SAHM world is full of competition, and ladies who are involved with stuffs like sports, PTA, whatever, get held to a kind of standard by the other moms who will relentlessly talk smack about you behind your back if you fall short. Okay. To answer the question, I have a wonderful relationship with my MiL. But unfortunately it was rather natural, so there isn’t some kind of trick or strategy at play. We’re very similar in many ways. My husband married a girl who is like his mother and there’s so little need for her and I to even discuss most things since we’re almost always on the same page already. Our relationship is part friendship, part apprenticeship where she’s teaching me how to be the next matriarch of the family. W…

My experience taught me that they are inflexible, prone to anger, tend to be poor communicators, and can get scary when challenged or forced out of their comfort zone. Not saying everyone's experience will mirror mine, but I'm not a person who argues. In almost two years with my husband we have never had a fight. Discussions yes, but raising voices and/or being aggressively inconsolable? No. In the 10+ years I was with my ex we had knock down fights over stupid stuff like him not taking out the …

I'd suggest The Longest Journey (and/or the sequels, The Longest Journey: Dreamfall & Dreamfall: Chapters—they can all be played stand-alone moreorless.) The first game was released in 1999 so it might be a little hard to get it to work properly, but Dreamfall and Chapters both should be fine. These are my favorite games after playing games for 30+ years. Strong, multifaceted female protagonists and a gripping science fantasy epic story make these adventure games (which means they're less about …

My parents are good people, but my mother is domineering and my father is a doormat. When I came to adulthood and went off to college, I was able to identify what they did wrong and I did... the opposite. Which led me to RP. Rather simple. I wouldn't change who I am now for anything.

people never really change We change from day-to-day. A person is never exactly the same as they were at any point in the past. But what doesn't change is our own feelings about the person including feelings that are focused on whatever negative(s) the individual may have possessed before. And this is fine, you don't ever have to change to accommodate someone like this if you don't want to. And some people don't actually change but just like to claim they did to get sympathy/attention. Oh my gosh another voice to say 'this'. I'm more conservative than my husband but 1) we respect each other and don't fight about politics, 2) I don't generally find it that appropriate to engage in political discussions, personally. I am true to myself, I don't need others to affirm me. But my husband is our breadwinner and I don't work outside of the home so we don't generally have power struggles, which is what the OP sounds like they're in the midst of. A long time ago, a monk told me (paraphrasing) that I would never be able to know God until I was able to truly know my own self. And this isn't a wildly out of sorts idea, just a super practical one. As a woman with ADHD and who also struggled a lot with depression in my earlier life, I know for a fact that I could never have become a truly good wife to my husband before I was able to understand the value in taking care of myself. That included taking meds for the depression and finding alterna…

GC is the public face of some pretty extreme, old-school radical feminist ideas. Everything they believe comes from critical theory and amounts to differing versions of "Men are evil." Regardless of my thoughts on the "gender excesses" (a problem) I find this to be a bridge way too far that explicitly has the goal to destroy my solidly RP-influenced happiness. It feels kinda weird to discuss here on RPW. Doubly because of the huge focus on ('political') lesbians in GC theory. Best of luck, but w…

Honestly, the answer to most of these questions isn't something someone can just like, sit down and explain. There are lots of resources, like Fascinating Womanhood and everything on the wiki, but ultimately I don't know how you could even be ready for this stuff when you're impatient for an answer. everything to do with how you deal socially with your dietary restrictions. This is the answer. I have always, myself, had dietary restrictions that are a little wacky. It is never a problem unless I, myself, make it a problem. In my line of sort-of-work there can be a lot of dinners and food-focused events. I quickly became adept at making sure that I was taken care of (having small meals before an event; keeping small snacks in my purse for emergencies, etc.) so that regardless of what happens…

I have ADHD and my husband is a (socially apt) aspie. We rely on each other to watch out for our individual blind spots. Sometimes my husband needs me to be all over the place and excitable because he is stuck in a rut from work or life or whatever I keep him reminded of the fun side of life. I need his leadership and far more clear-headed thinking/planning all the time to help offset my wildness and lack of individual discipline. You have to keep in mind, however, that the Prince Charming most women have in their heads isn't 45. He's 25. Absolutely, when the women are 18-25ish, too. A woman in her late 20s will look at an older demo. 30s is even older, and when you get into to uncomfortable but existing "divorcee age" bracket the rules change tremendously. Everyone wants to do it right the first time. But the context is different as you become older, wiser and more mature. My point is more that if you're worrying about "…

I think you're correct. If you want to worry about the wall, you're making yourself a plate. That doesn't mean you do not take care of yourself, but that you're focused on being the best you can be in the present, contextual moment—not some amorphous concept where the 35 yo is comparing themselves to a 21 yo. Which is a whole other issue insomuch as the concept of "The Wall" inherently means comparing yourself to other women, often in ways that are downright damaging to best selfhood. EDIT: Not …

Every wall is relative. What a 45 yo man might consider as the wall he won't cross is extremely different from what a 21 yo kid would consider "post-wall." As a 35 yo woman, I am utterly post-wall for most men younger than me. But, well, give a single 40-something man the chance and he'll think you're perfect. At least, if I weren't married there would be a plethora of men I could choose between who would in no way think I was too old. That's what experience has taught me. "The Wall" is scary fo…

I usually say something like, "Oh, I could never do that!" with the unspoken part being because it is trashy. But you don't say the trashy part out loud. If anything, you can get away with leaving the encounter and having the offending pusher-of-feminisms think they're somehow better for being willing to look trashy. Zero issues. At the end of the day everyone gets baseline respect.

Might I suggest that instead of this highly judgmental approach containing some questionable approaches to concepts like "truth," we might instead say that if your advice is to "dump him" it must also come with proper encouragement and assistance in re-aligning toward nun-mode? Because that would solve all of this while being thoroughly redpill. If, for whatever reason and whoever is "at fault", a girl comes in here who shouldn't be in a relationship the advice should be "Nun-mode." That nicely …

I have to agree with others here that for the older, married/committed folks this is a solid rule of thumb. It isn't "go ride the carousel" but, "Woah girl, you need some time to get this sorted out for yourself." I am just thankful my writing does not take me anywhere close to those folks. It sounds like you could use a new genre 😂 But it always comes down to the dual-income problem. Really, it is a formula about economic comfort. If a dual income is necessary (and many "liberal areas" are high cost of living; raised to assume dual-income families) it is, well, necessary. You can dress however you like and no one is allowed to judge you based on that. When in fact, the way we dress is a form of self-expression. This is even more complicated, and also more important, than just expression (which is one-way.) What it is is production. Humans engage in social production, meaning that how we present ourselves, how we act, what we do and so forth are all something we are very much bringing into the world; always creating ourselves in each moment perpetually. This is such a huge misconception! I'd wager to say that the vast majority of people are "traditional" to a degree. At least, as a married woman in my 30s I see varying types of "traditional" relationships everywhere. In fact, those with entirely non-traditional dynamics are rare unless you go looking for them... and then you'll be buried under the amount of traditionalism. Like most of RP, it is a toolbox not a checklist. I'd likely consider someone with like 80%+ of this stuff under control to be going very well. Everyone has their stuff. I know I can be an emotional basketcase sometimes, and I just try to deal with it like a mature adult. Friction is a phenomena that occurs when there is movement between two materials. By this I mean that you are a part of this whole thing, too. And that is hard to remember sometimes. Becoming involved gives them both someone to blame other than each other. And for people in unhappy relationships... that is a common trope. Quick edit to add some Tolstoy. “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”

Good luck! Just remember that the only person you can change is yourself. We all have a past, it is where we are today and where the future brings us that make us into the people we actually want to be!

On the other hand, I assure you that you don't want to get in the middle of this. That is a path to making the effects on you worse. You're not going to change them, and effort put in to that end has the chance of backfiring and having both of them lock ranks against you.

You described my home life when I was growing up pretty well here, tbh. It was the passivity of my father in the face of a mother who was out of control that pushed me toward RP in the first place. I am 35 now and married, but at a certain point I think I got my daddy-issues more-or-less under control by refocusing those feelings from my past (immutable) to my present/future (mutable.) It went from something I couldn't really control to something that had a place, time and purpose. I knew I want…

Of course either way, it also depends on if OP is comfortable with it or not. But to give good input, I think we need more information. I might point out that if you're curious this has been answered elsewhere in a different sub that is far more appropriate to the specifics of this topic! It informs some of my own answers in this thread.

I apologize, I am not suggesting that all subby dudes are psychologically wrong. I am suggesting that subby dudes are rarely a good fit for RP women. I am also working off of the huge amount of anxiety exuding from the OP's words, which echo my own extreme discomfort. Some people can do it, some people cannot. I am the latter. It would utterly destroy my relationship. If this is the case for the OP, then her worry and anxiety is 100% okay. My wordiness likely overshadowed my intent of saying, "I…

In order for a switchy relationship to work, both parties need to be switch. I think that is the difference. I know plenty of switchy couples in which both are comfortable taking either role because it is "fun." I have also seen a lot of failed relationships because a switch ends up with someone more binary who doesn't see it as simply "fun." This comes off as "extreme" because it can be utterly important. I think if we were discussing actual acts and not a sanitized concept there would be more …

I think this is a kind of specialized knowledge thing because it is not at all uncommon to find that emasculation IS the fetish. Which is just... it can be extremely disruptive to the kind of RP relationships we work so hard to cultivate regardless of how strong one might be otherwise. At the worst, this is like playing with fire—and the op already has discomfort with the concept. Does that make sense?

We've been together a really long time and he doesn't have any 'secret baggage'. In fact he's very forward and honest and generally doesn't strike me as submissive. Which I find confusing because some part of him clearly is.... X I don't want to suggest that he is somehow dishonest. My post was mostly generalized! I come into RP from a BDSM-ish perspective, and everything you wrote in your OP I could see myself saying in a similar position! I just want to make sure you know that others feel simi…

This is a huge line in the sand with me, personally. I couldn't do this and I know it. It would so diminish my respect for him that I would straight up refuse, which is not at all my usual answer. I know it would mess me up a lot. And I have known/met way too many submissive men—it is a kind of psychology. I'm sure people could make it work with RP, but you're far from alone in being uncomfortable with this request. It probably depends on the activities being asked for, but even then I would, pe…

TRP can be useful because they lay all the cards on the table. Vetting a dude? Well, all their stuff with spinning plates is basically a huge guidebook of what not to do and what not to accept from a potential suitor. If you have an ironclad sense of self-worth it can be utterly eye-opening. If you don't it can be a bit dangerous.

angry is NOT how I want to live my life. Oh gosh this so much. Anger is so unhelpful and leads right to unhappiness. Spending too much time over on the male subs is anger-inducing because they're often so angry. Which is why they have their space and we have ours. I like it much better that way. Besides, I doubt many of the ladies here would be at all interested in most of the TRP posters. Not until they got way past the anger stage. Yeesh.

This isn't a "Let me impress upon you my kitchen skills" moment, but it is a specific need based on your previous times together. Simply, y'all need to eat! I would, personally, tell him that you're going to do this and if he is supportive keep it simple. Nothing fancy. No showing off. Be practical about a practical problem. If he'd rather buy you food or approach this differently, that solves the same problem too!

No. No. No. You are not ruined. You are definitely not worthless. People make mistakes, and it isn't the mistake that matters as much as how you deal with the fact that you made a mistake. In fact, for plenty of people (myself included) making mistakes was what led us to becoming better, more joyful people. What this does change a little is the calculation. But that is life, because we cannot change the mistakes we have made or the stuff that we had no control over. Vetting isn't a process to ch…

I have always struggled to keep to a proper routine, instead getting things done but scattershot and disorganized. Fixing this has felt good so far! But I only made a sufficient effort within the last month. I hope to solidify my daily routine and keep to ~90%. I feel I am about 60% currently which is huge up from... not having a proper routine at all really. Specifically, working in folding laundry and mopping which are my least favs and I too often kinda put them off a littttttle too long.

The question I have that determines a lot is is he seeing other women? I am still working on my coffee, but I cannot see any discussion of this topic. "Mike" is being presented here as singularly into your potential. Is that the case? For some reason he seems to be putting off committing. And based on the length of time, etc., I feel uneasy toward the "why." But that is just unease without a discernible concrete source. One thing that strikes me from the description is that "Mike" doesn't seem i…

I think that hobbies are kinda important! Not in the way that being pretty & pleasant is important, but they're kind of like the directional arrow toward the specific kind of man you want to be into you. And this is not an active process as much as it is the way that we perform "being a whole person," to use a religious studies term. You're pretty & pleasant? Fantastic! But that doesn't keep you from getting bored (or, at least not after the honeymoon phase lol.) Hobbies are what you can talk ab…

Maybe this is more about "front matter" versus "back matter" by which I mean that your profile is a shopfront and your conversation/engagement are the packed shelves inside. You want your display windows to be pretty and well-designed; you want them to spark interest. But that's just part of it, because once there is interest and he is in the door? What fills the shelves has to be not only pretty, but desired. I think a lot of career/plans stuff is "back matter" that comes up later. That's the "…

"I don't want her to be lazy" or "she needs to have a decent career" or "she'd better be self-sufficient". I think that most of the time, these are not exactly truths being expressed! Sure he might say he wants a "strong, independent woman" but honestly that's often a red herring! It is a social script they think they need to follow; or a script they learned from TV and movies—not actual life. As a little experiment, try taking out ALL the references to your work aside from the parts that are pe…

My profile reflects that I'm an engineer, that I'm attractive, that I have a pleasant personality, that my goal is to be the homemaker (potentially even homeschooling), and that I'm trying to start a business so when I do stop working, I can still contribute financially (I was wary to put this on there but felt it showed that I wasn't planning to be lazy). The way people discuss their own persons is often utterly telling—and we rarely understand exactly what we're doing until after the fact when…

But at 25 I feel a bit...old. I left my ex at age 25, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made because it just wasn't working. Fastforward a decade and here I am 10 years in with my husband pretty damn happy. The relationship I left w/my ex was pretty much what gave me the proper life experience to know what I wanted/desired and the type of man that I was actually looking for, ultimately.

Exactly what you're doing is the first step. As others said, read the Wiki! Try reading Fascinating Womanhood! Begin to become aware of yourself and your interactions with others—like learning to be a little more quiet. Or a lot more quiet (like in my own case lol.) Through everything, it is the question of what resonates and what brings you joy. RP is, as we say, a toolbox and part of the process is seeing which tools help accomplish goals and which do not. Good luck!

They feel almost nothing for each other. Assuming this is truth, this ends one of two ways: a break-up or divorce. I'd much prefer the former option to the latter, myself. Dear my, I won't pretend that my own relationship is perfect, but the challenges we face we can overcome because we're, still, crazy about each other after a decade. I make him feel like a king, and he makes me feel like a princess. Without that... I might be writing something similar as the OP. Touchy and crummy regardless of…

Going through your comment history... are you sure RPW is the right sub for you? This same "compromise means I get what I want because I am an independent lady" thing seems to be a recurring crusade. Sorry for engaging.

not only "compromising" to his needs With all respect, this comes off as slightly antagonistic. I can only speak for myself, but when hubby is stressed (and the OP here with a husband out of work who is helping his family business) it isn't a "compromise" for me to help relax him. In fact, it is kinda expected most of the time. Why? Because his responsibilities dwarf my own and if he is unhappy/stressed/overworked everyone deals with it. It sounds very much like this is a very stressed husband w…

This is one of the places where I tend to veer off from the RP toolbox because my own life experience taught me otherwise. Which, I believe, is a matter of context with where I live and the general culture I find myself engaged with. In my own, personal, case I consider both sleeping with and living with a man essential parts of the vetting process. I have been... surprised before in the bedroom in unfun ways. More importantly, I will never, ever shake the experience with my college bf who was p…

Sometimes I get a little miffed that on surveys, etc., when they ask how you met your spouse and they do not, anymore, have an option for "through mutual friends." And by this I mean that people, now, meet over the internet with huge frequency compared to more "old school" methods like... trusting friends or family. And by that I mean to say that there are so many extremely valid and no-big-deal reasons for the distance that the real measure here would be a preponderance of red flags in the same…

Like others pointed out, it is unlikely that he will be unguarded. But that, itself, is something that can (and should) be used as a point of reference. He will come to stay with your family, so what you have is a great opportunity to see how he interacts with your family and get their opinions, too. Everything will be about respect and boundaries. Does he respect your family? Does graciousness come easily for him? How does he comport himself in situations where he is both your perspective Capta…

At the moment I am specifically working on my own restraint, especially as it gets stomped all-over by my impulsive need to worry about problems that are not even problems (yet.) Again, for me this is hamster-related like everything seems to be. I am learning to trust that he has a handle on everything, because he has a handle on everything. So it has been back to basics insomuch as I am working most to just simply do what I am told instead of trying to do what I am told++++. It is a process, bu…

I think the actual trick I use to break this cycle of reaction is to shift the frame of the comparison. It isn't, say, me comparing my body to my much younger new neighbor who seems to love being naked in her backyard—I shift that and ask, "What does my husband want/think/believe?" ...and suddenly I was hitting every stupid little mark that comparing myself to my neighbor made me feel inadequate about. For me it is so huge. When I stop comparing I stop being unhappy. And when I am happy everythi…

My own largest pitfall is letting my hamster run wild. Because my hamster is always running a little wild but especially right now in this moment. Part of this is "self-care"—by which I mean just not letting normal routines fall entirely to the wayside. But the other side of that is my reactions. I have trouble with them and they can get my brain into a mess quickly and no one wins, then. I suspect a lot of this all comes down to just stepping back and not jumping to bad places. It was eye-openi…

I think how you wash these things can make a big difference. This is so important! I wash almost everything (even things that say "Dry Clean Only" when I can get away with it 😏) and the most important thing is to be gentle with garments. Washing them is tough on them! I always use the lightest/shortest cycle and only machine dry what can either take it or what is kinda heavy duty to air dry.

LHR is great for some things, but awful for others. I have had a bit done, and results are a little mixed. It hurts like someone snapping a rubber-band against your skin—that is, for me, not an issue I can hurt a little. But ultimately, I am looking at doing more permanent electrolysis because the LHR certainly doesn't get everything you want to remove. Basically, if it is dark hair against light skin, LHR will work decently. But it won't zap those blonde buggers in any circumstance. Electrolysi…

This is my first post, so I do hope it is useful. I am a poet, so I think I understand some of this. First things first you just have to work on the basics: Be pleasant and cultivate kindness, etc.. That said, I know that I use poetry as a vehicle of larger self-improvement. Patience and humility are two things I have bettered in myself since I started to publish and write professionally at my husband's encouragement.
