I agree about teeth knocked in. Participating in team sports helps, plus I put both of mine in combat sports so they learn through that as well. I am not advocating for never correcting a child or sending them out to get their head kicked in. There are many options between striking them, and just letting them have free reign. My issue is now I have a 16 year old that if I wanted to take him down I would need a 2X4 and to pack a lunch. Dude has 40 lbs on me and is a beast.

I want a daughter who doesn't grow up to be an asshole. That is actually a pleasant person to be around. Seems reasonable and common. So the question is how to teach that. Do you want to teach her that should she act like that she should expect physical violence from the people that are closest to her? Or can you teach her that over the next 6 months through communication and example setting? I look at spanking as a temp solution to a problem right now, but opinions vary.

That said, society inflicts worse punishments than physical violence, especially for women. Do you want a daughter that stands up to that type of treatment and refuses to accept it from others including partners / friends? You can't think of another way of teaching that lesson that doesn't involve putting your hands on your child? Again, I am not saying the lesson can't be learned that way, just there are alternatives. I didn't need to burn my kids to teach them that hot things are bad for example.

No kid is perfect all the time, and them testing boundaries in all areas of life if normal Consistency is key, like in marriage, be calm, be steady, be consistent. Physical intimidation is a temp solution and not a good one. Lead by example, give her alternatives for how to take a pause or stop a conversation when appropriate.

You have eaten at probably 500 restaurants or more in your life, can you name / picture a person that was eating alone on one of your visits? I am going to guess no because no none else can either. Go to your fav spot, or go try a new spot you have always been interested in. Indulge in what you want. If you feel odd eating alone sit at the bar. I do that when I go eat alone and I don't drink. I can mess with my phone, or not, people watching is always on the menu. Eating alone is sometimes nice to just sit back and truly relax with yourself. No conversation to hold, no expectations other than a great tasting meal.

The phantom limb sensation or phantom pains is real. Best friend lost his lower left leg during an aircraft carrier accident in 2005. Have not seen that happen with the children involved in scouting and didn't see it when in the military. Served on ships that were Male only, and co-ed. At least in my experience there were certainly differences, but both ways had issues. I certainly know that ethics, order, and common decency were never lost. Perhaps my experience is an anomaly.
