Not knowing the details of the case, but just from what I read in the article, it still seems really dumb to not take a plea deal when your client admitted to the cops on the scene she shot an unarmed dude in the face. I mean, I guess there's a chance a self defense claim works, but if it doesn't, you have mandatory minimums, so that's a huge risk. She gambled and was denied. Stupid.
