Most guys don't want to come off as creepy or awkward at the gym (myself included) so they avoid doing anything to make you uncomfortable. Can't tell you how many times I've passed on obvious signs of interest just because of the context of being in the gym. So this way you might notice that you get more women coming up to you at bars and you can obviously still do your thing and approach them if you want.
