How is it ok to generalize a group of people that all believe in one cause (feminists, MRAs) but not to generalize a group of people characterized by one property (women, men)? The study addresses two types of empathy. Cognitive, the ability to understand another’s emotions and affective/emotional, the ability to feel another’s emotions. As far as I can read (from the abstract and conclusion), men are better at cognitive, and women are better at emotional. Also, men as you say can kind of control their empathy whereas women kind of have an “automatic response”.
