Maybe you know more about this guys specific situation than I do. If he did go out in a "riot situation" then the guys a fucking dipshit. I live in a major US city, that has had riots and shit. The cops still come out for things like noise complaints and drug use. If the alternatives to "call the police" over a noise complaint are get stabbed. go confront them armed and ready to shoot/kill and have to deal with the fallout I will call the police every time.

I am all for being armed, but I think you are right in this specific instance. If he went out there with a firearm concealed, then used it in self defense, it would be highly likely the story would play out "he got a gun and went out looking for a fight and then killed a woman of color, this is a hate crime." He probably should have just called the cops instead of going out there. Of course, if you know your neighbors you talk to them, but if its a huge apartment complex or something, just let t…

I can't help out with the study, but I can anecdotally say that I am tired of men, particularly fathers/husbands, being portrayed as dipshits who have to be babysat either by the wife or the kids. My wife is actually the one that turned me on to it because I usually just ignored the commercials. We have since dropped cable and rarely watch anything other than PBS for the kids.
