I like how half the people reading my comment think I'm being a white knight. My point is: they're both assholes ruining some kids' present because of money. Do they need the money? Perhaps, but their attitude clearly shows is not a matter of need. The dude would probably still say no even if he were rich, and the mother would still be irresponsible for not being realistic and honest to her kids.
