Maybe I missed a critical detail but this seems like nothing burger to me. I have recently experienced grief and have seen 100 different ways it affected others in my life. Some people definitely start swiping their credit cards carelessly. Erika could be one of them especially if she was a shopaholic before Charlie’s death. Or she could be an awful person, time will tell.

Most states at at will states. You can fire someone for no reason at all as long as it’s not due to their race gender sexuality religion etc. On top of that, being a journalist she is likely an independent contractor so she would have even fewer protections. She could sue but it would be a waste of money and time

They brought in more one year and it was because of the women’s World Cup. Every other year they bring in less than 1/4 of what men’s team bring in. The women’s team chose to pick a salary and the men’s team chose to only get paid when they win. It’s not ideal but they signed the contracts.
