I am extremely disappointed that this subreddit does not take any action to ensure that discussions remain civil, regardless of differences of opinion. Only 3 witnesses say that they thought he was charging the officer, and interestingly they don't specify how many steps he took while "charging". No, that is where you are wrong. The Brandon Lee case is completely different because it was a stage gun, which is required to have dummy bullets. Instead of purchasing commercial dummy cartridges, the film's prop crew created their own by pulling the bullets from live rounds, dumping the powder charge then reinserting the bullets. I don't know how it is in US but where I live it is primarily students (male & female) who do this. They also congregate in doorways to chat, blocking the exit/entrance. I found the best trick to get them to prevent this is to walk towards them with a paper cup containing coke with no lid. They may seem to be oblivious but they noticed me very quickly and broke up fast!

Ah, but the onus should be on him to prove that he has rehabilitated himself. He has already proven that he is a danger to the community, so he should not be released.
