I am SO sorry. Reach out for support to whoever you can or need to. I've been there too, and MANY of us have been. If you need an ear I'm glad to lend one or share a story.

...this isn't just Hollywood drama, this is a shift in how the public and law are viewing parents in custody battles and withholding children through creating excuses and chaos.

Honestly, it's a nice glimmer of hope for father's rights... especially the great many fighting against the weaponization of their own children against them.

...from the sounds of it, you may be the one eligible for alimony... just saying.

You will not win with an at-fault divorce unless she decides to give in. Family court caters to the lowest earner/highest spender which is historically the woman.

Oof... what processes did you have to go through in order to end up with this bill? Was there a child custody case, how many years did it go on, did it get taken to court more than "the minimum" etc. (The lawyer is one of many people to know what your financial situation is like... perhaps just by speaking with them as a person might open up their humanity a bit)

Oh fuck... how did this happen?

...if you're not working, wouldn't she be liable for child support to you?

I'm sorry man. I'm even more to say that "this is how things are", and they can be worse. Imagine having to pay $475 per week instead of per month. I'm sorry. Best advice I can give has already been said... she's going to get child support regardless unless she doesn't have custody of the child. Best thing you can do is get her to pay "her half" of daycare and medical out of "your contribution" to "50/50 child support". P.S. also fight to put in some more restrictive rules about what medical car…

Get out. You are absolutely, totally fucked if you get her pregnant. Now you're only a little fucked... get unfucked, file for divorce.

What a lot of folks here don't seem to understand is that if you've got kids, you're not free until they're grown. I think this is the case here.

I am horrified by your description. I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. If you need someone to talk with please reach out. A good number of us have been through something similar, myself included.

Consult a lawyer yesterday. Please. Because you are both married, you are likely responsible for half of the debts that she accrues. This is both on the shared credit card... *and* the card that she has on her own and is likely of a higher credit line because of piggybacking on your income as your wife. You may not know how much she is spending (or will once she sees the divorce coming and spite-spends), but you could be held liable for it. tl;dr, you don't want to be buying your ex and her new …

A point of concern... does she have any credit cards?

Fuck, I'm so sorry. Your story is so familiar to me. Please reach out if you want or need to talk.

If you stay and are miserable and the relationship sucks, you're not going to be an effective parent anyhow. ...It's like what they tell you on airplanes about putting on your own oxygen mask before you put one on your kid... so that you can take care of them afterwards, as if anything happens to them while you have no oxygen for you, you'll be of no help to revive them later because you'll be gone.

It wasn't custody that was being determined, it was which school system the child would attend. (50/50 custody situation where the parent had moved and expected that she would move with the child)

Went through something similar... she won by going to court with her lawyer "proving" that the new school system was better than the old one. (But since the decree says she has final say on education, that might make the decision easier for her to win...) Best of luck... sorry you're going through this. Worth talking to your kids about it... they may be old enough to take a say.

That's *really* good to hear. As long as you guys are on good terms and talking and respectful ...and on the same page when it comes to parenting, a 2/2/3 or a 3/4 might work out. Mature parents can deal with exchanges often, immature ones cannot. (...and kids can deal with anything.) In my case, it didn't work for me... but the problem was with the ex, not the child. Everything seemed like it was going well until she decided to take charge of everything. If that happens, it's already too late t…

How good of terms are you on with your ex?
