I only worked in the valley for about a year while I took time off during college. However, the strength of what I like to call the "Silicon Valley Distortion Field" is troublingly strong. As a young adult I have to say that anyone over the age of 26 doesn't deserve a second chance. At that age, you should understand that your actions affect real people and that some of those choices carry a serious consequence. It's also worth mentioning that at some time down the road with everything you do there is always a choice. If at some moment it seems you have a forced hand or that there isn't a choice, it's probably because you made the wrong choice somewhere along the way.

Faculty will commonly pressure that "getting a Masters or PHD is the only way to differentiate in your field" which some people actually believe.
