For me it was getting out of the military after being injured on deployment and not having a cushy job lined up. I used my 2 months saved leave to heal and do substitute teaching on the side before I decided to use the gi bill on law school. My convalescent state ultimately led to loss of status and resentment on her part and there's no coming back from that. Divorced now and happily killing it in law school while she is out living her life.

A better approach would be to not sign up for the selective service and challenge it that way. Not joining the military is about as passive a protest as I can think of, considering that millions upon millions already CHOOSE to not enlist.
