My friend keeps telling me this but she doesn’t get better results than I do and, since I was a professional writer for a lot of years, she constantly sending me verbiage to “evaluate” for red flags. My wife has a friend like this. She reads super deep into every exchange for hidden meaning. A lot of times there's nothing there at least when I look at it. I describe it as looking for all the reasons to make things fail instead of looking for where they might connect instead. I text mostly like h…

I think society and media at least put on a show that dating is a lot easier than it actually is. Like literally everyone was supposed to be going out having casual sex and getting FWBs easily and getting relationships is just something expected. Like I'm thinking of that Master of None show. I'm sorry but that dude is not cleaning up on Tinder in SoCal or Hollywood lol. In reality maybe like 1 in 3 guys I know did any of that easily. The rest some can do it with a shit ton of work. Some can get…

I get it for things like flirting but you can get real good at bantering by shooting the shit with the bros. That transfers to bantering with women too. There's a small adjustment I've noticed but it isn't that much. Flirting you definitely need practice and maybe some good mentoring if you don't wanna learn trial and error style. But the longer I read stuff around here the more I see a lot of dudes who struggle to have friendships even with other dudes. The closest thing they get to banter is s…

My coworker in IT has a stay at home husband. She makes all the bucks and support their family of 4. You never know, you might find a woman that makes your dream job come true.

I think there's a window where this is true. Like between 25-35 when people date seriously and you're sort of in your endgame for marriage and starting a family a year without anything in the end can feel like a big waste. If you're younger than that though like HS or first couple years of college I don't think a year means much. And when you get close to 40 like me, a lot of us uncs and aunties have already done the marriage and family thing. I know lots of folks above 40 who don't even want to…

In metric it's 180cm which is 5'11". So yeah it's just rounding off to a nice number. In the US too only 15% of men are 6'+ so if that cutoff is a hard rule it can shrink the pool a lot. I think someone mentioned though it matters a lot the community you live in. Like if you grew up in a richer area people have better nutrition and probably came from taller parents so they're usually taller. If you grew up in a working class neighborhood with food insecurity and drug problems and stuff you're pr…

That is sad because so much of social media is just people stunting. I knew a couple wannabe influencers and they're all deep in credit card debt trying to live a virtual life. Oh and they always on their cameras too. A vacation with them seems kinda miserable they just spend the whole time taking pictures rather than enjoying the moment.

I'm sympathetic to how disruptive covid was. But let's not pretend they were locked inside for like 5 years. It was like 1 year tops and then they went right back to classrooms in person. And they weren't isolated completely either. The ones with friends still hung out with friends they didn't shut out completely they just couldn't gather in large crowds in public.

Same energy as dudes calling themselves alpha males. Basically people trying to wrestle power out of life with words when shit ain't so hot for them. Guys I know who get play don't have to say anything to prove it to anyone. Women I know who make money don't have to say it either.

That's like customer service though. The normal happy people don't go returning stuff and demanding you take their shitty half used items back at full price. You ask me 9 days out of 10 and I'd say life is great wife is great kids are great.

Blue pill is usually associated with an optimistic look on dating I'm kinda still new around here, but that's prolly because blue pillers here are mostly those who are successful in dating and relationships. It seems like they're all married or in LTR and have children. It's basically the people who have it figured out the conventional way.

You're also hearing people talk about how others perceive them. If somebody is describing their bad traits how often do they say 100% I got shit on my shoes and not sometimes I get unlucky and step in shit. Same concept. I'm friends with a woman who legit thinks that she intimidates guys. And fair play to her she's a really successful career woman with a killer body working in a field full of nerds. But legit what I remember of her when we still used to hang out a lot is that she is kind of a pr…

I also keep coming back to this and not because I'm hating. But a lot of men here have the 'tism so the way they struggle with social interaction on top of how hard it already is. They were probably bullied or had bad formative experiences interacting with others so it became easier to withdraw socially and this gets worse the longer it goes on. Some I think replace with it online interaction but that doesn't help you learn how to be socially interactive in person.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/06/26 08:09 PM

He's from a different culture abd somehow had me convinced it was bigoted to have a problem with his views. You can thank cultural relativism for that one. People tryna be so open minded that their brains fell out. No, not all cultures are equal and just different. Some cultures promote things that are actively bad for some people and at the very least those bad elements need to go away. Don't tolerate intolerance.

I've seen it worked out 0% so far in real life after like a year or so but maybe someone out there is the lucky 1%. The only ones that made it work started as an open relationship upfront. Everybody else who tried it has either divorced or broken up.

Is that really said? I thought we even have some self-admitted high-n women around here. From what I see it's that casual sex or hookups are a smaller portion relative to relationship sex. Like if your girl has a past it's usually 1-2 hookups like you said and then like 5 relationships. So her count is mostly relationships with a couple extra credits thrown in. Yeah I'll admit reddit probably filters for more text based nerds who don't do casual as much or at all. But I'm almost 40 and just abou…

It was wild to me reading in retrospect how much reddit had a hate boner for Trump leading up to 24 election. Every other post in MMW was something about how doomed the Republicans were after this election. Guess not lol. I was kinda distrusting of reddit prior to that but the election more or less convinced me this site is only a narrow subset of people who are way too active online. This sub further reinforces that too and I was kinda addicted to this sub for a while but it's clear most people…

It's wild to me the way some of these dudes hate "parties." Like, a party isn't some American Pie or Animal House level rager...it can be as simple as 10 people getting together and hanging out at somebody's apartment where there's 5 guys and 5 girls. And asking these guys to socialize in those settings triggers such rage "But I'm an introvert" like bro...there's 9 other people there, just stfu and go try and have a good time. Even nerds back in my day had parties. We got TVs hooked up and had H…

That specific judge might say something like that but reality is companies don't want employees getting hurt on the job trying to stop petty thievery. Like what a few hundred bucks tops someone might walk out with? On camera too so they'll eventually get charged like other OP said. But if your min wage guy tries to play hero and get shanked or knocked on his head, now the store owes comp and their insurance goes way up. That cost a lot more than a few hundred bucks lost. Unfortunately this leads…

I think you gotta separate knowledge from service and access. Knowledge of RP might as well be free but getting the service of a human coach or access to a community is probably the real driver for most people even if they won't admit it. It's like why pay for OF when you can watch videos online for free. The content isn't what you pay for it's the supposedly exclusive and direct access to the content creator. The fee is for the attention. Where I think it becomes grift is when the coaches don't…

I got the advice to use RES tag and it's the best thing ever. Just noting if they're a man or a woman and if they ever mentioned age or being in an LTR and how they identify as whatever is usually enough for you to know what they're about to say.

I never had luck finding potential partners at the club. Best bet was always with a group of friends and their friends and then some of us pair up. This worked for me a couple times but I admit it's probably a lot harder these days.

I'll add too the guys who are always serious about everything and never relax. It makes it really hard to be a partner or even a friend with them. Like not impossible since I guess some people like this lead good family lives. And yeah, people who can dish a joke but never take one. So obnoxious. Very often bad losers too, never their fault always bad luck or something like that. I get where you're coming from. I guess some people just wanna screen themselves out of the game. I never had any complaints or side eye but I use church clothes as the barometer. Which is ironic because I used to complain to my parents all the time about why I had to dress up for God but really it's because all the adults at church are just a nosy gossipy bunch lol

Never too late to start learning! Art as a hobby takes longer to get to a good baseline but then you are like in the top 10% immediately because almost nobody else wants to get good at it. We only live once so why not spend at least a little bit of it having fun

A lot of little things and they took their time which I think is the biggest factor. Like they took scissors to my hair repeatedly and sculpted a shape that flatters me. Most of our heads has like little bumps and things and if you buzz it to a uniform height sometimes it looks awkward. Like I have a bump on the back of my head that makes a little clump of hair sit up when it's really short which is almost always the case in the US when you only spend $15 and get about 10 minutes total. There, I…

My wife's last name is pretty rare and I was 100% okay if she wanted to keep it but she insisted on adopting my last name. Funny enough I'm sorta not attached to my name at all but we agree that a pale white woman with an Asian last name is at least kind of funny. She's definitely surprised a few people once they hop on a zoom meeting and it's not who they were expecting.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/04/26 04:45 PM

That was a reference to me. My hair is dog poop 99% of the time but my wife thinks I'm funny so she overlooked it. That's why the glowup worked, she saw a glimpse of what I could have had if I wanted to spend $60 per haircut and probably every week to maintain it instead of going to Great Clips once a month and asking for a 3 with scissors on top.

I had a friend couple whose combined names was so annoyingly cute how well it fits. Sorta like if you took (F)ast and S(low) and it makes Flow, the new surname sounded natural and appropriate. They have a kid and the kid has the new surname.

When we went to the UK for our honeymoon I splurged on a haircut at a French salon over there and my wife was swooning over my glowup for about a week. Nothing changes priorities like being hit with all your own bills. I get it though. I'm glad my wife and I both make about the same. Can we get by with less absolutely but I already feel like with every year we get more bills and have to already cut back on something. We now have a kid and daycare cost alone is over $2k a month. Our first apartment together was like $1500 a month. It's just insane when I look back 10 years and saw how much more comfortable we were. We're considering trying for a…

I gotta assume this is the parallel to the other post. Being a short bro myself I think it's just an easy target because it's obvious. People attack superficial things. So you get things like short, fat, buck tooth, bald, yellow teeth, get called chinky eyes if you're Asian like me and so on. It's not unique to short men I guess is what I'm saying, if someone is coming for ya they'll attack whatever they think hits hard. I think if we had a mass number of really attractive men with no obvious character flaws or something opt out it might get some conversations going for sure. But like I'ma be real, the men sitting out aren't getting much play anyways. It's like me claiming that I'm not choosing to go pro in the NFL because I don't wanna support the billionaire class. Like cool that's a nominally good reason, but that's not why I ain't in the NFL.

Sites like eHarmony died because ultimately the customers wanted the swipe model. It was quick and easy and hit all the dopamine high. Like yeah we can all say that women prefer something different but then Bumble gave women the power to initiate first so men can't swamp them with DMs and it failed spectacularly too that they have to make that feature optional now. And limiting to 3 swipes a day or something seems good in theory but there are way more men than women on the app so effectively som…

As a whole men seem more into hierarchy than pure equality. Yeah you can point to almost every social revolution as led by men but I would argue that just about every single one leads to a different hierarchy where conveniently the winners came out on top. Tbf I think women are the same way too, there's always a queen b at the office and the politics are fierce.

Some people are okay with flaking for a minor reason. Like my wife was sick and had to skip our second date. Sure I didn't know if she was just making it up or not at the time. But I tried again and then we just kept going from there. She did text me to let me know the morning of though, so idk if that counts as a true flake. Like if it was a flake where she said nothing to me and then pretended like it's not a big deal then yeah thank you next please. But sometimes life happens. It sounds like …

Ignoring the cause or calling these individuals assholes isn't going to make them go away. I do wonder if it's peaked though. At this point you either are into the Tate stuff loud and proud or you know enough to not associate with it openly. So I think the group was growing for sure but it's saturated their market. You get a new one breaking through every so often but every other podcast bro or influencer wanna be I meet in my neck of the woods go back to their jobs after a couple months tops.

You need at least one common interest but a lot of space can be good too. And to your point friends are kind of different than an intimate relationship. Most of the time in a relationship is prolly chores and the boring stuff and the older you get the more it is spent on things that aren't always very fun like healthcare or kids if you have them. Wife and I have a couple of things we do for fun together but otherwise she has her own hobbies and I have mine. I think the magic is that you can't ha…

You know, that's a good question. I had a lot of fun when I was a kid and I had a lot less back then too. Before the internet and facebook and reddit, I read a lot. And played chess with my grandpa. In college I had a woman friend who I still really miss as a friend but we fell apart after a drunken hookup one night and then the friendship went sideways after that. In my experience at some point like age 35-40 the gaps don't matter anymore between two adults. I seen at work this lawyer who divorced and remarried 9 years younger but she was like 38 and he was just shy of 48 and nobody really cared. She even joked that she's the trophy wife though this woman was also a lawyer too so it's not like she was just eye candy. I think this generation at least has given up on this idea. Definitely growing up I got a lot of feedback about why you should befriend each other and then let it slow build. That only works if there was something there already however little bitty bit. Once she introduces you as a friend it's like 99.9% over. I only seen like a handful of couples who were friends forever and then become a couple. Usually it's because they had a long break where they didn't see each other physically and then uni…

Smaller ships are more agile than larger ships. Smaller bodies are more easy to control than larger ones. Obviously a generality, I would get smoked by a dude in the NFL at any physical task. I feel like I compare dating to a job so much but literally the worst employees are also some of the loudest ones about how important they are and that things will fall apart if they weren't around. Consequences will come later but it's not like you can feel that much more broke than already being broke. My experience with friends and even sorta dating one girl back in the day from 'the hood' is that when you're used to not having basically anything, nobody is thinking about tomorrow. Like why. Something will always come up to take what you have today. This is why they spend as fast as payday comes because if you save a hundred today you need to get new car tires tomorrow. Sounds like it's up to the person to know if they're part of the majority then. Yeah I agree with you that being sweet and supportive for example is probably what the majority of people want but if you're one of those people who prefers someone to be frank and push you then the sweet supportive approach is prolly too soft.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/26 01:59 AM

We don't fix unless we think it's broken. Dating is left to general people activity in the west and for the most part it works. Idk if we ignore it, it just doesn't become a whole-ass society thing until you get to critical stages like Korea or Japan. And yeah, I think we're getting closer but Idk if it's doomsday like this sub makes it out to be at times.

This is the market that you are ok living with So if they collectively say 'okay' because they can just stay single rather than date men they find unattractive, everyone is okay with that? I'm guessing based on this sub that ain't true at all. And for every guy "sitting on the thrown" the majority of men who are attractive find a partner and get hitched and move on with their day. Most adults past 30 are in an LTR. They could be playing the field but instead they choose a mortgage and family. Th…

If online dating vanishes - these epidemic will end. Naw man, that's just symptom not the cause. Dating's gone global and women can just move on if her local options are bad or hell just stay single. Online dating is already kinda peaked and declined, bunch of apps are struggling with retention because the experience just kinda suck. There's always like 2 dudes or more for every girl on the app. If you're a guy and you weren't getting bites within like a week that ain't just bots or OF ads, the …

In this sense, being nice can actually be morally bad. Yo, so this coincides with what I was watching the other day. There's a bunch of simulations in game theory. The interesting one is where two people interact, and they can either cooperate or betray the other person. If they both cooperate, they both get like $5. But if one betrays and the other cooperate, then the traitor gets $10 and the other one gets nothing. If they both betray, then nobody gets any money. But if you do repeated rounds …

Kinda wild seeing pics of people from like 50 years ago in public and how everyone was just a lot skinnier at every age. Or I'll be mean since I'm included too but I was flipping through high school yearbook photos the other day and like half my classmates are unrecognizable and 50 lbs heavier lol. My ass was in the 112 lbs wrestling weight class but I need to shed like 3 newborn babies to get back down to that weight.

Guy perspective but my wife is a couple inches taller. Sometimes I stand on my tippy toes to give her that feeling lol. And yeah, when we're lying down I default to big spoon or she snuggles into me anyways. I think a lot of the hype around height is really more about vibes. Not all of it of course, I dated a woman once who was a solid 6 inches taller and I coulda never made her feel petite, but she was a big wallflower so me approaching at all sort of gave her the femme vibe she was looking for…

I wish I saw more agreement tbh. It seems like still too many people disagree on basic facets of reality. Like I have some STEM training. It used to be that people would say "the data is the data but you can disagree on what it means." But I'm not sure anymore, people just be out there making their own reality these days and scarily enough it seems to work if you keep it small-scale.

I think this is something worth pointing out. There's usually a motif for handsome in certain groups of men who go bald and just commit. But lots of guys don't wanna go bald so they don't commit and just live in the in between zone where they have thinning hair that doesn't look very good. Ngl I'm starting to lose hair so I feel the dread as well lol but hopefully I'll get on the rogaine or whatever it's called when we're done having kids.

Those old highlight reel defensive hits are now ejection-worthy fouls. In a way it's good for the game to let players stick around longer and not turn into jello by 30. Not just that. I think ND people and specifically the autism bros are sometimes very fixated. They get 'stuck' and can't seem to let go. I was helping my old roommate interview for a job and was like feeding him questions for an interview I got directly from the manager who I personally know. It doesn't have to be the way though. Increasingly, more and more people will live with their parents as the economy worsen. In Europe I think Spain and Italy unemployment is like 25% in some areas, lots of people living in multigenerational homes. You can always find a way to grow and become independent even as you share living space with your parents. Confidence comes from self-sufficiency and success so you find ways to tackle some of that and you will build it.

I look back at all the fun of my 20s but can't even think about getting more than 2 drinks a sitting anymore. Just too expensive and the consequences ain't worth.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/03/26 01:19 AM

If we restrict debate to only people who are able to follow a flow of logic this sub is prolly toast tbh. But I respect your hustle. In a way I kinda like that it's a bit unhinged here in small doses. Reddit gets real echo-chambery and that's why Kamala is now our president. So it's important to have viewpoints that I don't get every day from my peers.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/03/26 12:10 AM

You won't benefit prolly. Assholes get away with it because they bring value somewhere else. Some value is superficial like they're hot. Some value like at work the really skilled guy is also a dick so he can be a dick as long as he does his job. Idk why people think being a dick is the part that gets them laid. Being a dick gets attention. But if you can get attention without being a dick then it's a lot easier to not be a dick.

Back when I was dating, I was told by many guys the general view of a woman approaching them first is it signals she wants to screw them and that's it. Kinda chicken and egg imo. I'm in my 30s and back in my teens and 20s women didn't approach a lot. So when it happened it meant she really really wanted to connect. If women approached more then it wouldn't be as meaningful. People don't even date much at work anymore to avoid HR and other messes when they break up. Like at grocery stores and restaurants back in my 20s yeah people mate like rabbits. In the office jobs I've had ever since though, like zero. Zilch. None. People date in secret or it only came out because they broke up and drama started. Only time I see it work is when the people don't even work in the same team or floor or when one left the company and then asked out the coworker on their way out.

I mean, yeah, you said it. Once people have some experience with dating and relationships, they have a better sense of things being slow because there's no spark or things being slow but building up. Like I was a typical horn dog in my 20s. If I met my wife back then I'd be gone by date 2 or date 3 max and miss out on the best relationship of my life. It took a few of those flame outs back then and some dating successes to not make sex the target of dating.

I'd hate to be alive before we had this stuff tbh. I was scratching so much from the hives it was impossible to sleep some nights. Yeah, the text is from the woman's phone and not the man. She's probably trying to show evidence that she's in the right. Pie-mart does have a point though. I dated a woman with this kind of vibe once and it lasted like 2 weeks. Absolutely steer clear of this vibe one-hundo.

A bit off topic, but now that i think about it, I rarely see "street smart" being discussed on this sub and imo it's a factor for attraction. You got me thinking. Obviously, a book-smart person can also have street smart or lack it. Is the opposite of book-smart, I'll say slow person, can they be street smart? Like, I've seen someone who's uneducated be street smart. But I wouldn't describe them as slow, they usually are pretty sharp on quick. They just didn't have a lot of formal education. I'm…

My immigrant mom had some stories about that with now-passed dad. He lost a lot of their shared money on drinking and gambling. It got so bad the local table where he gambled with his friends once forced him to go home after he got paid from work so he wouldn't lose it all. I don't have many positive memories of the guy as a role model tbh. But the more I learn the worse it got.

I think it's been changing faster than expected actually. Western corporate cultures are being imported through the subsidiaries. That and their economies turning more inward is helping too. But China has the same future projections issues most notable economies are now expecting. They're stagnating and declining in birth rate and slowing down in economic growth. And production is still happening there but now increasingly cheaper elsewhere so they face stiff competition. Not to derail the whole…

Asian dudes specifically I think hail from a more "shame/face" based society and also collectivist, you aren't really encouraged to stand out, it's more about showing you are diligently working for the group unless you are already senior. Funny you say this. I remember somewhere in the last 10 years, the Chinese govt. has been pushing books about why it's okay to be ambitious and show it. They really want to change that part of the culture and encourage the young Chinese workers to show more...i…

It's not just dangerous topics. Speaking as an Asian person, I feel like we have a narrower bandwidth to express ourselves and still be taken as leadership/professionally. This is of course only speaking in general, exceptions are plenty. At the larger society though, you see the bamboo ceiling effect. Asians make their way to middle management but are then not seen as ideal for the next higher level. Yes, we have some examples like Google and Nvidia having Asian CEOs, and they're big examples. …

Shouldn't we just swap the word men in your edit for adult so it applies to women as well? "reaching a level of maturity and level headedness that comes with the wisdom of life knowledge" is not gender-specific. I might agree that on average women become adults a little faster though. Lots of little reasons, some good some bad.

Dudes on left might be putting off women in some way. Maybe neurodivergent to an extreme or something. Wasn't that one Elliot shooter some years back like that? He was apparently decent looking but had zero rizz. Negative even, I think he was like super hung up on why women weren't worshipping at his feet. That specific person might just not be the right person to be friends with you. Sometimes, people are fighting their own battles and until they're ready for the alliance or assist, the best we can do is give them an out but not try to force things. I saw this in corporate during the height of the DEI craze. It's sort of obvious who the ultra champions are, but more interesting is the people who can read the room and know they're going against the grain. They had to be extremely strategic in the battles they took so they don't hurt their image or career path by alienating certain individuals who can boost or railroad their upward trajectory.

And then it brings a question, does it matter that there are no open conflicts in real life if people are thinking the same thoughts and it brings the same divide? I don't remember the article name, but there was one written by a liberal woman in some higher education op-ed a while back. The basic premise is that she started seeing more and more students trying to win moral battles in the form of outrage and snark. Most men in the Western World find women with hair on their legs repulsive. I have visited other parts of the world where unshaven female legs are normalised, and the men have absolutely no problem with it. Instead of focusing on having become damaged goods, why not celebrate the imperfections that make us who we are? Perhaps the implicit point you're getting at is that if people aren't seen as disposable then relationships are secure and safe. I'd agree with some of that. Society changes and dating dynamics evolve based on external conditions. Bit of a chicken-and-egg situation imo. Popular tropes are the ones that survive because they make for a compelling narrative/storytelling. Rags-to-riches and one-in-a-million odds are popular tropes for example, but they're literally one-in-a-million odds because they're so darn rare. You can also reverse and have a total dud sexually speaking but they have all the right things that would keep a relationship going. Guys need male role models and mentors. I screwed up big early on, definitely thankful for some who looked at me and thought "okay, this one's not hopeless" and straightened my shit out.

It's the thought process that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people (i.e. it's a just world). So by extension, if someone's failing at something like dating, there's something they're doing wrong or something's wrong with them. Basically, we overpresume it's a personal factor and not necessarily an environmental one (e.g. luck of the draw). It's incredibly pervasive. It's also like how people assume and treat rich people as smart and business savvy (they're rich s…

Civil offense vs. criminal offense is a distinction that's commonly lost to laypersons when speaking about the law. I'll include myself too: it's surprising on occasion to me what's merely a civil offense when it 'feels' like there should be more serious consequences. Vice versa as well of course, though a lot of times it's because of some archaic laws that just never got updated.

I'd even break out 18-34. People between 18-24 are more likely to be single, in school these days, be with a partner who's probably not their long-term one, etc. Once you hit late 20s and 30s, it's where more and more couples are settling down and starting families. So comparing the first half to the second half can be a little misleading as well.

It's like a boss in a video game that has a shield you need to wear down over time before you can do damage. If you just try to do damage at the start of the boss fight it will almost certainly be reflected back to you and you will fail. The long game is wearing down the shield. LOL. But no lies detected.

Fellow short guy here, cheers to you and the positive mentality you've cultivated. When it gets tough, I channel my inner immigrant narrative. We made it through a slog of a time, adapted, and found a niche to keep going. Life doesn't get easier, we just level up.

Will community and friendship solve everything? No. Companionship is very different and scratches a biological itch that friendship doesn’t. But male suicide is scary high, and I think it’s important to recognize that men are lonely while also pointing out that we as a society are collectively losing out on connections that we so badly crave. I appreciate your much more nuanced and sympathetic take. I do think most men who are lonely and sexually frustrated try to solve both in one go through ge…

Yes, my statement does not disagree with you. But a handsome, short guy will tell you height matters more than looks. An ugly, tall guy will tell you looks matter more than height. The guy who has both and autism will tell you social skills and neurotypicalness matters more. And so on. Everybody who isn't experiencing success will (reasonably) assume what they're missing is the 'it' factor. It's likely there's not one 'it' factor that needs addressing. It's also possible they misjudge what their…

An individual can follow their core civic duties (paying taxes, obeying the law, voting) while completely ignoring the traditional social obligations (community engagement, raising a family, etc). I think you highlight a good dichotomy. The two spheres used to be overlapping. Very, very few did sneak off to the woods or something and live as hermits, but almost everyone else mingle out of necessity. You didn't really have a choice to be non-social because most people cannot live without relying …

Guess it depends on what democratization means to you. An aspiring OF star doesn't need an agent or an existing network to break big, but like any other endeavor, having connections and help goes a long way. They have to get noticed fast so the algos that advertise them pick up steam and keep featuring them. Having friends and friends of friends link to you for example is just one way an OF aspirant can benefit from connections. Or doing collabs with an already well-known player in the market. I…

No lol. Median OF earnings are like $100/month. Most of the money goes to the top 1% to .01% accounts aka people who already have and continue to have a massive following. The more people join, the more saturated it only becomes.

Almost any services or performance related gig goes this way. There's not an infinite amount of demand, you can always capture some small amounts at the fringes, but it quickly peters out. I'll bet most small-time OF'ers got started and the bulk of their money comes from someone who knows them personally. They quit shortly after because invites some uneasy parasocial relationships, but also because they probably have no way of standing out among all the content creators. It's like all the art sc…

Modernity has made life comfortable enough that nobody has to do these interactions that used to be required. Some asocial person can get their food delivered contact-free and use the self-checkout aisle and never talk to another person. Some now use AI as a pseudo-friend and companion in lieu of interacting with someone else for information they do not have. Not sure if chicken or egg, or if that's even relevant. The upkeep cost of society is people participating. I guess some people don't want…

Most, by definition, are just Average Joes that happen to be tall. That sub is full of guys that can't seem to find companions. I don't know why anyone can complain about them. The short guys think that height is the biggest factor holding them back. The ugly guys think that face is the biggest factor holding them back. And so on. Every unsuccessful guy thinks the 'it' factor is what he's missing.

most people genuinely don’t know the difference Took me a while, but stopping at acknowledgement, but before getting into solutioning is key. Voila, became a much better partner (and coworker).

Kind of interesting too that the conversation has been almost exactly stuck in the same spot, perhaps with a modicum more of awareness. Like that last part where he pointed to when a potentially frustrated guy would look for answers, he sees what hostility one side offers, and what almost neutral-ish tones the other side offers, and is unsurprisingly going to choose that. 11 years since then, I personally think this is still where we're at. Actually, perhaps we're one notch further. The more com…

And unfortunately for some men, they exhibit traits/behaviors that trigger those risk aversions. For some other men, they are 'sparky' and able to override/dampen that risk aversion. How good a person is, is not correlated to the above.

Socially awkward nerdy women have no problem dating Yeah, because men will date awkward women. Men just don't prioritize social lubrication until they have been burned by socially awkward partners and/or have alternative options. It's not some gesture of charity or benevolence.

There's a social mandate about how "tough" a man needs to be that is just not true anymore. I think society now requires men to be more open to connect and bond from another place, but dont know how. I think the mandate is that society wants men to open and vulnerable, but also be able to not be threatened by that vulnerability. A man not in control of his emotions is, after all, a potential danger. So it has to be a couched vulnerability, a la "Yeah, this is really hard and I'm suffering, but i…
