Weird, I would have thought the "14 Women Say Whey They Don't Need Feminism" Buzzfeed article would have scared off people from doing just this, what with how popular it is.

I hate how that's a typical response against MRAs, no matter who does it. And yet, no one ever calls these people out on it, saying it's ad hominem and is just petty.

Those guys are also immediately labeled as dumb and lazy, but I agree it is a lot more socially acceptable, and I don't think it's fair either way. Look, most of the comments here think this picture sucks and is inaccurate. I certainly think so. The subreddit still brings up good points of other things.

Reporting in. My girlfriend looks more like the woman on the right, and I find her incredibly attractive. I know what I like. True, the game isn't in your favor if you're overweight, fat, or obese, but personality and taking pride in appearance play a factor.

This isn't a debate, where asking someone to respond to a claim he didn't make is bad form. Discussion is different. Just saying "no" is bring any train of thought to a screeching halt. You brought up abortion as a right of women that is being contested, which is now to the point where it's being threatened as a right. Can you or can you not illuminate any rights that a woman in Western civilization does not have?

A woman does not have the right to "No.". Fascinating.

I think there's a lot of emphasis on labels and positions in his argument... As a scientist As a civil libertarian Not a libertarian, a civil libertarian ...because I am a civil libertarian I'm not even female But at least there's a response. Depends on how it is handled, is the short answer. You can make the case for political parties, and conservatism and socialism rank high on the list (riiiight up there with communism). The response groups, such as the MRM, are more apt to handle discussion of views and challenge the authority of facts within themselves. Hell, that's usually how they start: They had questions about the movement they were part of and no one wanted to answer them. I haven't seen much blind circle-jerking of an unch…

I never got how they think this is the solution to the problem. Criminals will commit crimes, and they will figure out how to get what they want. The normal men and women who already know what is/isn't rape don't want the lesson again. This whole safe-space thinking is lining them up for slaughter.

I understand you don't know/have the rates, otherwise you would have presented them with your post. The Law of Large Numbers is a certain way of logically thinking about it, but we'd have to actually know. Hell, maybe smaller nations (such as Rwanda) have a higher rate of rape and incidents thereof per capita than China or India- we just need to find proof or evidence.

Of course not, no one has the authority to. However, your name becomes mud in the Kickstarter world if you fail to deliver. Slowly there have been more responses calling Sarkeesian out, proving how she has effectively scammed donors (though the lack of updates or finished product speaks for itself). I remember posting against Anita in /r/games in a post, but got downvoted to obscurity. Seems the way of truth hasn't reached many ears yet.
/r/MensRights06/12/12 05:55 AM
2

Oh yeah, of course. That's how fraud is done there. Usually proposers are loyal to some customers, so they made good on their promises. Random strangers can elude a promised group of donors easily. Anita...well, she managed to not provide and still has a strong, supportive "audience".
/r/MensRights06/12/12 05:40 AM
3

From what I've seen, Kickstarter now has a policy that you need to demonstrate a prototype and explain what specifically you're using the money for. Anita did both, since she had pre-existing videos, but essentially lied.

Which is why someone who has anything less than 30 years or so of experience on the bench wouldn't be approved by Congress. Save for apparently Kagan, which I did not know about. Remember, someone who is new on the job wouldn't be appointed. They need to demonstrate capability in judging. An appellate court judge is usually a good candidate.

I just want to address the last fragment of your comment. Generally speaking, everyone on or has been nominated for the Supreme Court is done having kids. The reason they're nominated to begin with is that they have an long, extensive record, which points to putting your job above your family or the benefits thereof. I don't think anyone on the bench is getting pregnant anytime soon.

The post only focuses on how a female role is what's affecting men, when there is a specific slot a male can fit to be "acceptable" in society. When we step outside of the role, we're feminized, but if we stay in the role, we're acting out a stereotype. We can't win with this kind of thinking.

everyone's head Can you verify that? What about someone who grew up being taught that the man always gets his way? Or in a distant future, men are taught to be submissive to every desire a woman wants (hopefully not)? I'm not saying that NO MEANS NO isn't prevalent, but there are some few cases where NO hasn't been taught. I argued this with someone and realized this is the gray area sometimes. In some countries, "no" means "yes", like in Italy. It's their machismo. In the US, it's nothing like that, but I'm sure someone could come up with a reason for not being able to say no.

The gist of what I'm getting from the comments is that there is no connection between rape and the type of clothing a victim was wearing, which is a very relevant point. So what exactly IS the problem with revealing clothing? Is it unwanted attention? I know some people could construe that as sexual assault... Any arguments?

She wasn't- she never was meant to be overweight. Just self-conscious and with a little bit of acne. The curviness just kinda...evolved. Plus, his art style doesn't exactly accentuate body detail, so realism is out the window with criticism.

There have been cases where the roles were reversed and sexist conversations and pictures posted have stopped when it was brought to management's attention, that you feel threatened in the workplace and you feel as though your value is diminished because you are a different gender. This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of implied consent, which is a lot more common and smooth than straight up asking someone if they want sex. This giant gray area of "Well, she didn't say yes explicitly, but she motioned towards yes with me" is what people want to define so that there's no misunderstanding or accusations the day after.

Really, I'm upvoting this content for visibility. I don't necessarily agree with it since we've heard the story before, but from a more human perspective. She's at least not up in arms, taking legal and physical action, which is what everyone on this board would paint an ideal feminist. Whenever I hear that the amount of women in Congress is not representational of the amount of women in the nation, I always ask "Well, why aren't more women running?" It's not meant to be an exclusively male field; there's no inherent gender-bias in running a political race. If women are up in arms about mishandled remarks about rape and pregnancy (which should be chalked up to poor education, if anything), why not just run for office. I live in New York and Gillibrand makes me sick with all of …

They should be. People are responsible for everything else when they're drunk, especially DUIs, so why shouldn't sex be that way? I've argued this with people before, and I stick to the whole idea of prevention methods. If you're afraid of someone having sex with you while both of you are drunk, why not have someone be your straight-man and pull you out of the situation?

Aside from the main point in posting this video, there's a pragmatic truth in what he said in the last 20 seconds. No one can just think of an idea of a utopian society we should all strive for. It should be a collective ideal to make the best society possible, one that if efficient and pleasing to the population. Yes, and that works for your context. But the official goal of feminism shouldn't be using that broad term. I think there needs to be an official term of struggling to get female equality, yet without referring to patriarchy. If you've been on /r/MensRights for a while, you'd see we hate that term since it inherently victimizes us.
/r/MensRights07/10/12 09:28 PM

You're using a disputed definition for- oh forget it. I'm not going to repeat myself.
/r/MensRights07/10/12 09:15 PM

So then just call it equal rights. Your first example is applicable to women. Don't call it patriarchy.
/r/MensRights07/10/12 08:54 PM
1

I think some would argue that "the end of patriarchy" would bring about "the dawn of matriarchy". Yknow, for historical recompense. That's just equal rights. The textbook definition. The end of patriarchy is when males do not dominate in every facet of society. Who defines what will that be?
/r/MensRights07/10/12 08:34 PM
0

So....an equal-rights activist? Usually people who identify as feminists have a beef with men. Same way that SRS perceives every MRA on this board as a misogynist, when I can tell you that's not the case. Research speakers that have made strides in equal-rights, then compare him/her with every "feminist" on Tumblr.
/r/MensRights07/10/12 08:13 PM
2

But they're the ones who are defining "patriarchy". They'll end it when they see a woman in a position of power across the globe, regardless of qualifications. At least, that's what I can tell from discussions I've had. I can understand if it's just to prove they can do it and foster equality in applying, but otherwise it goes back to hiring equality and preferences. As far as the second one, I totally agree with you on that. Roles do not equal gender.

I don't think they know what "sensible attire" means. They don't wear that shit to be comfortable or leave anything to the imagination- they do it to send a message about themselves. The analogies we've been using aren't something people intentionally DO sometimes, this is stuff that can be overlooked when people don't think. It happens to the best of us since we can't be vigilant 24/7. Rather, people should understand that the way you dress AND behave in public sends out messages. You could be the center of attention and scantily clad, or in the back and reserved, but BOTH of these send messages to DIFFERENT groups of people. Rapists pick up on both of these kinds of signal…

Why do I get the feeling inferring is a hobby of yours? It's a matter of reducing your risk. It can be done with any crime, and all it takes is a bit of informing with an ounce of sense to follow it. There are tasteful ways of going out, and you can still have safety-in-numbers, watch your drink, etc. If a rapist wants to rape, they'll do it when you least expect it. There is a degree of care a victim needs to take, but they're never necessarily "asking for it".

I keep hearing the story of the man who dressed lavishly, walked through a poor neighborhood, and wasn't pickpocketed. I wonder why studies haven't been done on this. It just seems to follow that appearing a certain way would cause someone mentally prone to do something illegal would be pushed to the edge...at least, in my mind anyway.

They've been railing against that? I've seen feminists screaming they want sex yet get offended whenever someone hits on them anonymously. The fuck do they expect?

The hivemind has its own agenda. Better luck next time, dude.

Well...you're agreeing with an unpopular opinion. And not really contributing other than that.

It becomes a huge problem when it interferes with school conduct and makes life a living hell for students who are required to attend school. I get that free speech shouldn't be limited if it was in public and no harm was being done, but this is detrimental to student interaction.

After a few words in, all I was reminded of was "all men are rapists and need to stop the raping".

This is pretty much in line with the rest of the Teenage Boy on Xbox Live rhetoric you spew on this site.

I took a look at it anyway, but didn't vote. I always do that just to see the discussion in the comments. How people respond to it speaks a lot more than what the article asserts sometimes.

In all honesty, I like the fandom, but I'm not going to argue for anyone who feels victimized as a "brony". I'm a fan, but I'm not classifying myself that far. They've gained a reputation as such, but of course that's the loud minority. A lot of the fans that I've seen are nonchalant about it and don't forcibly inject the show into every possible thing they experience. But then again, that's just my view.

Any adult interested in something meant for kids has been looked down upon when taken in that context. Things like /r/pokemon, /r/adventuretime, and /r/gravityfalls wouldn't exist if adults didn't enjoy them as well. Hecklers just say they have autism or something. Bronies, however, have the added sling of being interested in something meant for children of the opposite gender. It IS sexist to assume that's wrong, but Faust produced a top-quality cartoon. Haters gonna hate, I guess?
