I think you are overall generalizing shyness. He's talking about starting small and building up. People might perceive the behavior as being shy, but for me it's sort of a re-learning of the golden rule. You know, treat others how you yourself want to be treated. For me, the more natural state is to be by yourself. It is easier and just as enjoyable. In general I find people uninteresting, boring and annoying. So its like... If I was that person would I enjoy being approached and asked questions…

I also can't stand the lingo. I'm only a casual reader of this subreddit, partly because of that. But also because many of the comments and posts seem really... bro-ish I guess, which is off-putting. But there is also a lot of good posts and suggestions to go with the bad, like any fairly large subreddit will be. I just try not to linger on all the silly acronyms.

Write multiple answers on separate napkins. If she says one of them just make sure you know which pocket it's in.

Yup, It's not that I can't be engaging and talkative, but more that I just honestly do not care what they have to say. Not even just indifferent or apathetic about asking a question to continue the conversation but I aggressively do not care about what they have to say. The mental fortitude and conditioning I have to put myself through to simply seem like I'm enjoying a conversation is fucking exhausting. This is my problem.

How is her original comment a shit test if she didn't say it to me nor tell the gossip-girl to tell me about it?

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus. I took it to mean that she was not into me, which may or may not have been true, but was probably the wrong conclusion to immediately jump to. Lesson learned.

I don't think it has anything to do with prejudice. I interpreted it as her not being into me and that is why I was bummed. Many people here have pointed out that that is not necessarily the case which is good to know, but at the time that's how I saw it so that is why I was bummed.

Perhaps, but in that case wouldn't she say it to me then? I don't think she asked the other girl, who she doesn't really know, to go up and ask me if I was gay.

Yeah, probably not a bad assumption to make about that gossip-source.

Yes, that is a whole nother story about why this person told me that, but that's par for the course for this person. A gossip hound and in general a person who I don't get along with very well for most things. I don't think it was done in spite or out of animosity, but just because she likes gossip. But what I mean by reacted negatively.... I gave her a playful look trying to portray, hey I'm into you, sort of look. And when I said, "so I hear you think I'm gay"... she at first seemed really cau…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
