I said "this is going to sound crazy" because I was saying it on reddit, where there are a lot of atheists, and because it's not something you'd think of right off. Believe it or not, there is a dating scene in some congregations. I did not mean to say you should fake faith in order to pick up women. I'm sort of assuming you're already Christian if you're up for something with the word "ministry" in its name. My apologies for not making that more clear.

This is going to sound crazy, but if you don't mind a little Jesus, church is a great place to meet women. Some churches even have singles ministries specifically made for that purpose. Episcopalians are going to be your best bet there, because they are pretty much the very last denomination that will get all up in your face and proselytize at you. ELCS Lutherans are another good option. Avoid Baptists and Methodists unless you yourself are also really really into religion.

If the MRM is intended to be a PR campaign for men's issues, it's the shittiest one ever. It sounds more like Elliot Rodgers than Ward Cleaver.

Do you realize you sound a lot like a feminist talking about the patriarchy? that is the only way we will ever be taken seriously No. No, it's not. The MRM is not being taken seriously right the fuck now. With regard to the constant anti-feminist circlejerk which amounts to a form of currency in this subreddit, I have to go Dr. Phil here for a minute: How's that working out for you? You want to wake up society? Let's talk about how shitty it is to grow up as a boy in this day and age. Let's talk…

A sidebar sidebarring an example of sidebar sidebarring. Seriously, how many TIL rules did that post violate? The fucking TIL subreddit is not intended to be used as a platform for a political agenda and its rules are not a goddamn men's right's issue. /r/undelete is a forum for paranoids who think the reddit moderators are out to get them. Anyone who thinks their stupid little internet war is worth one second of their time is not serious about men's rights issues or any other political issue. I…

Sometimes I read something in this subreddit that seems less like a men's rights case and more like a bunch of personal drama that we really ought to steer clear of. This is one of those times. Every person involved with this situation is terrible.

This story reminds me of the gay marriage debate, because visitation and power of attorney are two of the key points gays and lesbians have been denied through denial of marriage. It makes me wonder if and how gay marriage will affect the issues with marriage MRAs have been striving against. Will we find new allies, or will it make no difference at all?

How exactly is this bullshit? What damage is done to this sub by preventing you from voting in a completely different sub when it's linked from here? You can still vote and submit links here, and you can vote anywhere on the website you like if you're linked to it some other way. The mods are doing what little they can to make a clear statement that they do not approve of vote brigading in other subs from this one. That was already a site-wide rule before the np. linking system was implemented, …

If that was their agenda, they have a lot of other, simpler ways to go about it. I mean, they're the admins. They could wipe out this sub with a few clicks.

We should start brigading ourselves in protest.

np. links have never been advertised as an end-all be-all solution to brigading, but at the very least it will make you think twice when you go to comment or vote and you can't. If you (hypothetical you, not you personally) give half a shit about the long-term survival of this sub, that reminder ought to be enough.

I guess we shouldn't make such general assuption beginning with "Men/Women want" When I see someone say something like this, I just automatically assume that they're grown-up, I'm grown up, so let's just give each other the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are aware of the exceptions to what they're saying. It's a convenience of language. What they really mean is "as a general rule, men/women want..." The alternative is to turn every conversation about gender (or race, or religion, or p…

That is not at all what I mean, and I find women bound by those sorts of traditions to be just as predictable and boring as some Western women. What I'm referring to is this. If you were to place everything that makes a relationship worthwhile into three categories, what is needful, what is good, and what is special, I feel like the things which are special have come to be seen as needful. In other words, when I go out of my way and bust my balls to make a woman happy, it's taken for granted. I …

This kind of reminds me of rental situations where a landlord can fuck up eight ways to a Sunday, thirteen to a dozen, but no matter how bad they are, God help you in the courts if you don't send that rent check to them on time. You can sometimes get your money back after a judgment, but the courts will come down on you like a ton of bricks if you withhold payment before a settlement or judgment is determined.

In every sex advice article ever written in history, consent is generally implied. I think the whole Gawker network is yellow journalism trash, but I also think you're being a bit unfair to them here. Reading that article did not lead me to believe they were promoting rape of any sort.
/r/MensRights26/07/13 12:10 AM

You're partially right. When I've brought it up in personal conversation the reaction is nearly always shock, horror, and recoil, followed immediately by an attempt to find something wrong with me. Surely there must be some hidden problem with a successful, attractive man who rejects the unspoken terms which modern American women generally insist upon in a relationship. I've read a few feminist-leaning articles on the subject, however, and they are almost comical in their impotent outrage. There…

I just have to say, it fucking sucked when I decided to stop calling myself a feminist. It was not an easy decision. It's kind of self-indulgent to really talk about to too much, so I didn't. But when you've spent your whole life thinking a certain way and trusting certain people and you have to stop what you're doing in order to re-evaluate it all, it's difficult to make the change. It's a bitter pill to swallow. That's why I'm not so hung up on whether people want to keep the label or not. One…

The mental illness of thinking that saying "it's a boy" is some form of oppression. This is a newborn baby, for Christ's sake. The only people oppressing that kid, who I might add is going to be the fucking king one day, are the ones who want to imprint their sexual philosophy onto an infant child who has years to go before he reaches puberty, sexual maturity, or the age of adult consent. I think you've highlighted an inherent problem with the notion of objectification here, and it's one of the reasons I reject the notion outright. You can't ever seem to pin it down; it's always subject to interpretation. It's not very durable as a tool for understanding human behavior.

The thing about those "not the prettiest girl at the ball" types is that they tend to age better than anyone else. Someone with less-than-perfect features can handle wrinkles better, smaller boobs don't succumb to gravity, and the plain truth is that we all get a little uglier with age. If you're in it for the long term you really couldn't make a better choice. The issue at hand is that there are plenty of dangers to unprotected sex with strangers that have nothing whatsoever to do with spermjacking. That was TheFarnell's point in saying that his friend was "stupid to have unprotected sex with a woman he barely knew." In fact, he was.
/r/MensRights07/05/13 07:00 PM

This is exactly the same as those folks who got outraged at "lipstick on a pig" used in reference to Sarah Palin, or that state assemblyman who got up in arms about the term "black hole." In other words, it's a willful misreading of a common term in order to generate outrage. Judge Judy is fairly well known for standing up for men and has always held the position that "we do a terrible disservice to fathers in this country." This is an empty attack on someone we should count as an ally.

On pretty much every issue we care about, whether it's disparities in incarceration and sentencing rates, divorce, custody, boys' issues, you name it, black men and boys get it the worst. This is almost exactly my experience with feminism. When the local Riot Grrrl chapter formed in my town it was made up entirely of either ex-gfs of mine or girls I otherwise knew well and hung out with regularly. I was really into feminism for a very, very long time. It hasn't been until fairly recently that I got most of that garbage out of my head. If someone is so affected by a sexual trauma that they need a "safe space" to talk about it, then they need a licensed professional counselor, not a feminist. When feminists take people who are emotionally vulnerable, isolate them, and use that opportunity to fill their head with feminist ideology, they are behaving no differently than a cult.

While you're exploring that idea, you might find it useful to consider how it relates to the idea of "the patriarchy" (in quotes because I don't acknowledge it as being real). One of the most oft-cited examples of "the patriarchy" is the plain-as-day observation that men still occupy most of the positions of power in our society. However, as you correctly point out, this phenomena is also inextricably wound up with class privileges as well. The fact of it is that you have about as much of a chan…

For my part, the negative connotation I can't see past is patriarchy theory, which seems to be completely inseparable from feminism. I'm not a participant to this discussion but I just want to say you're awesome. It's nice to see someone back down from a position of outrage and cool off while still being polite and staying true to their original point. There's not enough of that kind of thing on this website. And I'm not just saying that because you have nice tits, either.

They even make partner faster, and enjoy higher salaries. And they do it without having to "prove" that they got there based on their own merits. Oh sweet lord Jesus this is just too much for me. Has it never once occurred to you that the very reason women and minorities have to prove that they earned their way through college is precisely because of Affirmative Action programs? If everyone gets in based on the same criteria there is no reason to second-guess anyone's diploma.

Sorry about that. EDIT: I didn't downvote this mod comment, so I have to ask the downvoter: why did you? This was my post and I can easily see why /u/sillymod suggested I post it elsewhere.

No offense taken. I understand why you'd be skeptical. It's easy to get an itchy trigger finger around here.

No, this comment wasn't a joke. It wasn't the sort of thing some SRSer would needlessly freak out about. It was a serious suggestion to commit violence in response to someone who was asking this community for advice. I hate PC bullshit just as much as it sounds like you do. I am not the sort of person who will label someone with a scarlet letter merely for making a joke in poor taste. This is not a case of someone with a shitty sense of humor, the comment was not in any way intended to be a joke…

Well, to be perfectly candid, the answer to that question hasn't quite yet been worked out to everyone's satisfaction. Part of the reason I and many other MRAs are frustrated with feminists is because we would actually like to have an honest and frank talk about this issue with the other stakeholders in the equation. Otherwise we're just talking to ourselves. In response to your comment, I would zero in on this statement of yours: "The option for men during the pregnancy to absolve themselves co…

He called you on the phone with the assumption that he had gotten you pregnant, which, in fact, was the true situation. Your decision to lie to him falls under the category of "minor faults with your decisions" I mentioned before, because I really do think he had a right to know, in spite of the fact that he sounds like a scumbag. But he did make it clear to you that he wanted the child, and his voice in the matter was more or less heard. The main reason I'm willing to overlook the lie is becaus…

Parental franchise is by default an inequal proposition because of biological differences between the genders. Women have to carry a baby to term while men do not. One of the things we strongly advocate for in this movement is the rights of men to make decisions about whether or not they become parents. Presently, for a variety of reasons, men do not have as much say in the decision-making process as we think we can and should. That said, veto power over the decision to terminate a pregnancy sho…

I am going to assume for the moment that this is not a troll, as there seems to be a lot of that going around in this subreddit lately. But this story does sound an awful lot like something that was made up expressly for the purpose of getting MRAs to say something that can be used against them later. I vaguely remember saying no and trying to push him off me when he kept going. But I'm not sure. I'd like to know what your reasoning is for not considering this rape. Again, this sounds a lot like…

I assume this is some high-level sarcasm that I can't quite suss out. I hope you're not serious. If you are serious, please be aware that you aren't stealing anything from me. If you aren't, I cite Poe's Law in my own defense.

Weapons grade stupidity if you ask me. Luckily most of these people seem to be college aged, so hopefully they'll grow out of it some day. These people are simply incapable of functioning in the real world. I've met a few IRL (which is how I originally knew SRS weren't faking it) and in my experience, these are (with exceptions) the types who can't hold down a job for longer than a month at a time and blame everyone but themselves for their failures.

Have you seen their moderator discussions? These people are not trolls. They really do think that way. Look up "Tumblr social justice warriors." They are exactly the same as SRS, they just don't use reddit. These people are for real, they actually do exist, and they take themselves seriously.

This phenomenon was especially stunning when I was dating a black woman and white women at work were making passive-aggressive comments about it. I can't really think of anything that is more eye-opening than the experience of interracial dating. You learn a lot about the people around you, probably more than you would like to know.

I tend to cut regular people a bit of slack about that sort of thing. An infographic is supposed to be a quick and easy way for the reader to digest information. I'd place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the content creator who is either willfully deceiving their readers or simply engaging in sloppy work.

"Safe spaces" as practiced here are a complete sham. The only people who see them as necessary are radical, separatist feminists, and the only people who they see fit to enter them are vulnerable women who are receptive to their views. They create an in-group by calling it an out-group so that they can better isolate their victims and fill their heads full of fundamentalist claptrap. It's god damned cult behavior and I'm astonished that nobody I've seen yet has called it out for what it is. The …

Downvote me if you want, but good grief what an awful opening line for him. I get the point he was trying to make, but it sounds like he's trying to cop an excuse for being a shitty date. The only times I've ever "shown respect" (even that phrase is condescending, no wonder feminists are repelled by it) to a woman by letting her pay for the date were on the rare occasions she asked me out, as opposed to the usual. The host plays the treat, and that has should have nothing to do with gender. EDIT…

It doesn't hurt to mentally rehearse situations like that if you think there's a possibility you might be in one. I go to protests of all sorts, dealt with plenty of counter-protests, and I've also volunteered to escort women through the regular gauntlet of protestors at Planned Parenthood clinics. I've learned a few tricks over the years for dealing with protestors while keeping my cool, which is what you absolutely must do if you don't want to get arrested, or worse, hurt your own cause. Stay …

I work in politics. Let me let you in on a little secret: you will never win an argument against your opponents, and furthermore, that's not the point. If you go into a debate trying to convince your opponent, you will always lose. The point is to persuade your audience, the spectators who are observing the debate but not participating in it. This is why you must always match aggressiveness with politeness, temper your emotions with reason, and always stick to the facts. Oh, and one more thing.

I just want to briefly tell you that I've read your replies to me and I appreciate the time you took to make them. I do also want to note that I understand that there are exceptions to every rule, and that my failure to acknowledge them in my earlier comments came more from lazy writing on my part than from lazy thinking. I was wondering after I wrote that whether or not someone would nail me for that, and sure enough, you quite rightly did. I don't hold some of the opinions you seem to think I …

I find this post to be a paradox, because it illustrates the issue at hand by demonstrating an example of it. I can't get on board with all of what you said, but this part of your comment really gets to the heart of the matter to me: a companion rather than a competitor That issue cuts both ways. The dating scene is a meat market for both men and women, and we're all measuring each other's worth. The problem, to me, is that the process never seems to end. Part of what I find attractive in other …

I especially liked this part: that doesn't make them "higher-quality women" to anyone but you I mean, that's sort of the point, isn't it? That's why we're all in this forum talking about these things with each other. It's not just "anyone but you." This is a chronic problem which permeates our whole society.

This isn't about whether or not a woman is educated and empowered. It's about whether or not they work and play well with others. You don't hear anyone talking about finding a good wife in some third-world shit-hole like Afghanistan or East Timor, do you? If we wanted a totally submissive wife, that's where we'd go looking instead of Asia, Russia, or South America. I mean, seriously, have you ever met a Russian woman? They aren't exactly pushovers, you know. The problem being addressed here is t…

Just so you know, there is widespread suspicion that SRS is heavily infested with trolls from SomethingAwful.com who are getting their kicks by pretending to be radical feminists and dialing up the outrage levels to 11. As if there weren't enough amateur dramatics going on already.
