Can someone make a tumblr called "Moveyourfuckingbagwoman"? 5 years on public transportation, I can't tell you how many times I saw women on crowded trains, buses, and subway cars who thought that whatever sized bag they were carrying deserved it's own seat when everyone else was packed in like fucking sardines. They weren't "trying to establish themselves in the social world and resist the pressure to be small and reduce themselves into compliance," they were being inconsiderate and selfish. As…

Maureen Down is everything that is wrong with our press corps, period. She's an equal opportunity misandrist and misogynist depending on just how fucking bored she is with her job at the moment. She can't be bothered to put any thought into her "reporting," so instead she makes personal attacks on peoples' characters and pretends that she can read their minds. Google an article titled "Creeping Dowdism" by Katherine Boo that was written in 1992 to see just long she's been at this shit.

For me, even when it's used in a serious context, it rubs me the wrong way. It's a disease and the disease is called anorexia. It doesn't need to be called a new buzzword because a man is suffering from it.

Can we start by excising terms like "manorexia" from the English language?

There's a local radio station in my area that does a "Who's the Douchebag?" segment where listeners write in about a personal problem (usually an argument with an SO but not always) and then people call in and vote on who is the douchebag in the situation. On the segment this week a man wrote in about a something that had happened with his wife. Basically he's a gamer and he really wanted to watch the Dota 2 tournament live online (I think he said it went from 8pm to 1am) and while he was watchi…

Yes. My mother was always the primary (legal, but that's a whole other story) wage earner in my household. My parents divorced over ten years ago after 20 years of marriage, and since then my father has battled his drug addiction and several other major health issues. He's doing really well now. However, most of his employment history is under the table, so he has no retirement to fall back on. My mother was actually the one who notified him that he's entitled to her social security benefits. Th…

You think a man should have the right to go to court a force a woman to have an elective medical procedure? If it's between that and opting out of the child's life, I'll choose the latter.

Birth control pills for a woman are not a chemical hysterectomy or a destruction of her ovaries. Pharmaceutical birth control for men would be comparable.

Having the legal system force a woman to have an abortion because the father does not want the child is a very bad idea. Very, very bad. Where abortion is legal, he should have the choice to sign over his parental rights and not be financially responsible for the child, but that's as far as it should go. Any further and you start getting into bodily autonomy issues.

If the cosmetics that you choose to buy make your living expenses "significantly higher," perhaps you need to rethink your priorities.

Sort of off-topic, but This American Life did a story on asmr recently.

I saw a big poster ad for these things at the mall the other day. The first time I heard about "daddy's money" I thought it was a joke. It won't do any good, but I just shot off an angry e-mail to corporate.

What news are people watching? I hate to pimp Good Morning America, but that's the only show I've seen cover this trial and they are all over how she mangled this poor man in "self-defense."

I put on Good Morning America while I get ready for work. They are not my preferred "new source," but since this case is so sensationalized they've been all over it. Judging from the snarky comments they've made about her during her time on the stand, it's safe to say that they side with the prosecution. As for the jurors, at least a few of them are not taken in by her act. The one question that stuck out to me was something like "How did a bullet casing end up on top of a puddle of blood?" They…

Works fine in Outlook. If it's Chrome, complain to Google. Shit happens. In 2008, all of my Outlook e-mails with "Obama" in them were auto-corrected to Osama.

So . . . first we have to (admittedly unfairly) assume that all men are molesters because a tiny minority of men are molesters, but then it's okay to keep the door closed when a potential molester is in his office with a boy because pedos don't go for male children?

This is taught in self-defense classes regardless of whether or not you're in a state with strict gun control laws. The point is that if someone is assaulting you (physically, sexually, whatever), they might recoil just long enough for you to run away.

God help me, I watch about an hour of GMA in the morning before I go to work. My only excuse is that they moved Graham Norton from 8:00 to 9:00. They have not been reporting this as a case of battered woman syndrome and the haven't been villifying Alexander. Last week they showed footage of one of Alexander's ex-girlfriends on the stand. She stated that he cheated on her, but he was never violent or controlling with her. As for Arias, this morning they reported about how she's been on the stand f…

I also took some women centered courses (ex: Revisioning Motherhood) at my all-female residential college. This was eleven or twelve years ago, mind you. I wish I was aware of the MRM at the time so I could have better expressed some of the issues I had with my classmates' ideas. Any time I tried to bring up the fact that men and boys can also have a bad time due to societal prejudices and expectations I was looked at as if I had two heads. Many of them also used the word "housewife" in a deroga…

No problem. When I wrote the comment I knew it was pretty easy to misinterpret, but I'm lazy and I didn't edit it.

DerpaNerb, I'm agreeing with you. Read what I wrote again and take into account that even light sarcasm (sorry for the confusion) doesn't translate well on the internet. I'm saying that the only way I can imagine why people get offended at common sense advice is because they think you (as in the general "you" not you personally) are saying the rape is the fault of the victim for not seeing it coming.

If you say that there are ways to prevent a rape or at least lessen the chances of it happening, you are saying that everyone who has been raped could have prevented it, and therefore you are saying that it's that person's fault for being raped. That mindset is the only way I can understand why people get offended when you say stuff like, "Hey, maybe when you go out you shouldn't get blackout drunk or drink to the point where you're not really in control of yourself."

My dad worked construction and stayed home for several years after a back injury. I loved it. I got to grow up very close to my dad which was awesome because I didn't really have all that much in common with my mom until I was nearly an adult. I know that he was constantly badgered by friends and family (but not my mom) about when he was going to go back to work.

Wow, way to enforce gender stereotypes while pushing your agenda of . . . whatever the hell this website is pushing. Little boys are hell on wheels, while little girls are quiet darling princesses. Except for that one dad who was disappointingly saddled with two nerdy boys and (thank god) got a sporty daughter. What kind of made-up nonsense is this?

This really makes me sick. I went to a small college where a false abduction/rape allegation was made and it turned our community upside-down. The "attacker" was an unidentified black male, and of course she was believed without question. Luckily no arrests were ever made. The only reason she was found out as a liar was because she pulled the same act at a different college in another state.

They are discussing whether or not the blood test that is regularly used to detect prostate cancer causes more harm than good. This is on the Diane Rehm show which is broadcast on WAMU and NPR.

As a woman with a "natural, uterus-having body" I will be the first to admit that periods are pretty gross. There's a real narcissism on display here. It's like she's saying that everyone knows that all hetero men want their dicks in vaginas all the time, so if a man is put off by having sex with a woman on her period there must be something very wrong with him.

I really hate these things and I'm a woman. I'm not even really sure what "awareness" means any more. As a woman, how are you not "aware" of breast cancer and how does posting some cryptic Facebook post help anything? If you're really dedicated to breast cancer awareness post something like, "To all my female Facebook friends: Early detection can save your life. Remember to do a monthly self-breast exam." Or, "I just turned 30 and I'm going to get my first ever mammogram this year." And the whol…
