Just know the lawyer is interviewing you also.

I think we are talking lawyer fees, right?

A friend’s was about 125k. No idea how much she paid her attorney. She was the antagonist. It hurt to discuss this with him, at the time, because it was pretty bad. Took over a year.

Everything we did was online. Even the court dates. Never met my attorney. It started out normal, with a local firm. Then they hired an out of state dude and gave him my case. Never mattered as far as that goes.

Mine was nothing like that. Attorney was about half a percent.

People are not concerned with you. Eat a meal alone, whatever.. be confident in your choices and live your life. Others are really not even thinking about you.

We each paid our own attorneys. I just checked the box that said ‘no’ basically. CA if this matters.

Yeah. I commented on something once and got banned from a different sub for it. Computers, man. Ugh.

My ex brother in law did this. Nobody thinks well of him, daughter included. Pay your dues. It’s your kids.

Yeah my income is fairly high. I’m happy to pay 4k. She wants 6k. Per month. Yeah. Not gonna do 6k. I’m retired from my job but still work. I’m only going to pay support until I’m 65. Lawyer says I’m under no obligation to work so there that. Four more years.

Today is better than tomorrow. Get ready though. Everything is going to change. But you’ll prolly be better off for it.

I’d say just realize there are emotions tied to what you’re going through. Perfectly normal.

Ten months til first date. Had fun. Ended as friends. . Now not really interested in another. Takes too much energy.

Uh, is that a lot? I’m paying more now but that’s what I hope to settle for. (Right now it’s closer to 9k because right now we have no agreement).

Hi. Sorry, I didn’t notice I was asked a question. I found out that I’m not obligated to work, it’s my choice. She’ll get a portion of my pension as well as a portion of my income. Until age 65. All else is just splitting the monies/401k stuff, etc. For spousal support it’s hard to figure out- the tax law changed so I pay the taxes and then pay her. So it (my payment to her) gets reduced by about 18% (from half). I’m not sure if that applies to the pension but it does apply to spousal support. .…

I’m moving 2800 miles away. (No kids). I’m gonna miss 40 years of friends and familiarity. Ugh…

In my situation I’ll be paying her a portion of my income until she 65. It’s not maintenance or to keep her lifestyle higher, it’s just so we both have similar income. Spousal support or alimony. Our lifestyle didn’t come into play- just that our monthly income are about the same.

I had barely let anyone know I was divorcing. I not fodder for the rumor mill. Only close friends. Not necessarily co workers.

I retired but am contracting back for a few years. I could simply stop working and we’d both be ok, but another few years is cool also. I’m 60.

I would only say the facts… were divorcing. The most people will ask us if there was any affairs/cheating. Other than that there’s nothing to say except ‘we weren’t headed in the same direction’ or something like that.

Get an air fryer. You can cook lots of stuff in smaller portions without the mess.

Seems like a familiar pattern. She’ll make you make ‘the call’ on divorce and then later say you left her ‘out of the blue’. She’ll deny you ever gave her a chance, etc. good luck but if you stay I hope it works out. I left. Best thing ever.

Cali is a no fault state. This means no amount of he said she said, he did she did will make a difference. It’s that simple. Don’t worry or be concerned with any of this mess. Get a lawyer and just follow the process. There is no punishment except for domestic violence and drug abuse. Other than that it’s no fault. Sorry!! PS: to the derogatory comments about California- that’s bs. No fault is to me the cleanest way to go.

My understanding is you will reach an agreement your base pay. Bonus’, like overtime, is settled at a different percentage and you would pay it quarterly. I would not agree to an amount of spousal support that is based on speculative pay (bonus, overtime, etc.).

You can do the paperwork yourself by using county resource help or hire a paperwork preparer for about 1000 bucks, pretty sure if there’s no kids. I wish I could do it that way…

Holy smokes… Get that thought out of your head now. I’m divorcing after 40 years and trust me..that is not going to be a problem. There’s a fair chance they’ll be lining up for you. I love my own company but companionship is great also. Wasn’t looking for anything for five months then all of a sudden it happened. Don’t stay for fear of being alone.

That’s a tough one. You’re lucky you have kids to love. At least she’s making it easier for you to see why she’s an ex.

38 years. Very close with her huge family. I left. I sent each one a letter or text about our split and they each responded positively . But I don’t expect yo be able to talk to any but prolly three of the family from here on out. Sucks but it’s the way it is.

We have five dogs and I don’t get to see them. If I mention I get two, for example, she goes off the rails. She’ll end up with all five. Fuck.

How come they never mention the tax cheating also? They deducted the bribes from their taxes. And you only get two months for that?

Left five kids to now live with gramma. Ouch for gramma.
