I'm still trying to get where this quote is from. It sounds like something fitting for an old era samurai war film.

Say something no one can object to (or address the objections) in a sub that has a different stance, and you'll be downvoted into oblivion, no matter if they cannot find fault with your facts or reasoning. Sad, but true. I feel you. If you want to be at least a bit happier, sort by controversial. If your post is up, that means some people agreed with you, even if most threw a careless downvote without even considering. That's worth something. Either way, thanks for your comment.

Well, as reddit does not show anything but the difference in upvote, downvotes, and the ratio, and on top of that fuzzes the votes we really don't know how many total upvotes and downvotes it got. Might be the difference between upvotes and downvotes is 13, but the vote totals are up 513 down 500 (yeah, percentage would be 51% in this case and not 62%, but I really don't want to work the math of it, you get the gist of the objection). Apart that, it doesn't really matter. Of course this post is …

My post became upvoted only after being downvoted, and stayed downvoted for quite a bit, while his comment was upvoted. Things changed only with a specific reply on his point, which really shouldn't have been needed. Anyway, by the same argument, shouldn't it being still 62% upvoted speak volumes too?

That would be an appropriate description of events, if that happened in the order you described. Unfortunately, I've seen how the post developed, and first came the people laughing, then me, then the other outraged. Difficult in this case to state there was such a self-evident agreement on it being abuse that no one thought to speak on it (I wish I had your faith in humanity). You are welcome not to believe me, or think I misremember. (By the way, not all top level comments pointed out the mater…

Forgive me, but we'll have to disagree. If you see someone punching someone, and your friend's only reaction is "hah, what a pussy punch!", the only proper reaction is "what's wrong with you", and then intervening to break the fight. Commenting with a joke to a post like that and not mentioning, not even in passing, the abuse (let alone criticizing it), means either that you didn't notice the abuse, deemed it normal (enough to treat it like a normal post and make a joke), or considered speaking …

I wouldn't characterize the top three as "making fun of the dude". Yeah, they say he punches like a pussy, but that's simply a way to make fun of the fight, not of him for starting it. If you prefer, making fun of the situation. A situation which isn't funny at all. If you (impersonal) think the situation is funny and goofy enough to make fun of, I'm sure as hell not counting you into the ones who object to the post, and you're teetering on the edge of supporting it. The next one points out no o…

There isn't a specific rule, unfortunately. But the "About" page states this is not a subreddit for general woman bashing, if I remember correctly, which is as close as a rule we get about it. Unfortunately, I see sometimes this isn't enforced. Sad.

Sure, I accept your correction, if you feel the term carries a stigma you'd rather not attribute to people. What matters to me is the core of the argument, after all. As for such content being against the rules - I agree. And yet, even if it is, I have no way to report it. Domestic or otherwise. I should know, I tried, and there is no "this is just abuse" category. I literally had to report in "my vagina rot my brain" category, and hope a mod would read the report description and notice the comp…

's why I'm writing here. There are posts like these around, and lumping people who object all into a great "salty sjws" category like this post implies is counterproductive. Some people who object to certain posts might have a point in pointing out a post is incel-ly.

And? I fail to see why the upvotes matter. It's been posted, it's there, it's still there, people in the comments apart from three people including me seem to think it's a normal post, including its OP - as far as I'm concerned, given recent events, this is strike one: if before I'd have given no audience to someone screaming "you incel" beneath a post, now I'm going to check the OP first carefully. I don't see why it's controversial to say that given recent events and circumstances, someone com…

Well, after the ban of some subreddits popular with that demographic, it should come as no surprise that there might be an influx of both A) incel-like posts B) people telling incels to shut up as this subreddit, ruleswise, is not about women bashing in and of itself. Maybe the watchmen are right, in this instance. I mean, after I saw a post glorifying a man giving a punch to a woman unprovoked ...

Uh... Did you notice her standing in her place, him advancing, straightening out his chest, and then throwing a punch, with her not having moved an inch in all this? If anything, he's the one that went up in her face. Aside that, I won't ever condone someone who throws the first punch, no matter how or why or what was said or when. Until someone actually starts physically attacking you, you always can deescalate the conflict by going away. If you throw a punch when you've got other options, you'…

No, sorry. I hate SJW. Wrong sex to assume for me, btw, no armour and no shine. I'm going to criticize any person who throws the first punch, doesn't matter what words were uttered, bloody insults flew, curses thrown. I'd assume we criticize women who do that in most of the posts in this subreddit, so why glorify the time when the man does it first?

Mods, this is the best way to get banned, and still I'm convinced this is being done on purpose. Time to add a "no glorifying unprovoked violence" rule? Because he hit first.

Not debating that, I agree with you. I'm just saying that, objective the results/performance they may be, a prior act (determination of rules) from which results depend is subjective. This means the end results are not an objective measure of anything but themselves. They can't be used to evaluate objectively the qualities of the contestants that are behind the results. (Correction: of course, if one is willing to be less rigorous, they have a degree of reliability, but on this they're on par wi…

Uuh... Yes. I'm claiming exactly that. And that's because we WANT not to be there an interview. Only anonymous grading should decide if you win or not. Correction, actually: to be fair, in italy, after the written exam we have an oral exam too (can't vouch for other countries in Europe). Not an job interview, though, what is evaluated is not the personality of the candidate but his/her competence. You might object this hinders anonymity, inserts subjectivity and thus voids the competition. This …

The terrible fact is that these people wear their unsociability on their sleeve, as if they were somehow "better" for being "uncompromising" and "speaking their mind, no matter how impolite it is" to say "the truth". Failing to realize how you can speak your mind without being rude. How you can disagree without insulting anyone. How you can be uncompromising, without being belligerent. But the more we continue, the more I'm convinced this is a sixteen year old young adult we're speaking to. He h…

... as you are so willing to spout insults, maybe you should first check if your arguments are sound. You behave like a commander burning a bridge... Before crossing it. Judge exams have both a threshold and a competition. Not all who meet the threshold pass. With so many candidates, only those who get... Wait for it... The best grades between all candidates. And that's the definition of competition. An objective measure of result in what is a competitive, by necessity, endeavor. Or did you thin…

I just named one. In fact, an area on the entire planet, my country, where judges are 80% women. Italy. Europe gets around 53%. Still more than men. (and that's counting UK, where the nomination is more political in nature, being a common law system, and - oh wonder! - exactly where nomination is no more tied to performance, percentage of women drops to 8%. Were we to exclude that country, as it's less based on performance... Well, bodes very bad for your team.) Law, and precisely the apex - the…

You do realize up until 60 years ago it was weird for women to work because they had to provide for their husbands, poor ones, bringing home the bacon? And before still, it was improper and before still unthinkable? Heck, in my country, up until 50 years ago, the CONSTITUTION said women couldn't be judges. Do you expect that kind of exclusion to just disappear in statistics in 50 odd years? Try again in 100. From now. (Even with that, for your information, now it's 80% women. Judges. Top legal i…

I assure you, people change with time and you are not what you were at 15. Maybe at 15 you would have been happy to "hit that", and then growing up would come to see that there was a part of exploitation of an undeveloped mind (try to remember all the misconceptions about life you had at 15) in what she did. Who knows how you would have taken to knowing someone used you. Many people of all sexes do not like being used and thrown away. Maybe you would have. Others do not, but deal with it. Others…

Doesn't matter. Would you say the same if the victim was a girl of the same age, even if she enthusiastically consented? Nah, didn't think so. Neither does media, but for some reason when the victim is a boy this shit pops up. Get outta here with that kind of double standard.

What should we call the belief that men are equal to women and women equal to men? Surely not feminism? This implies that women are disadvantaged and should be raised to an equal status to men. They're not. They're disadvantaged in some things and advantaged in others. Same as men. This means that the correct word to use to name such a movement - one that does not imply incorrect statements - is egalitarianism. Doesn't roll of the tongue as nicely, but truth is more important than sound. The one…
