Whewww beautifully said! You hit the nail on the head and I know exactly what you mean. I’m so proud of you for finding healing tools that worked and making that breakthrough!! I look back now and realize just how much or my life I have wasted (mid 30s) and I refuse to give any more of my energy to men who don’t deserve it. If I have to be single for the rest of my life so be it...I’m still coming to terms with that of course lol...but they are just not worth it. EMDR has been incredible so far,…

Oof tough pill to swallow, but you are 100% correct that the love was never there. Sorry to hear you know the experience too. It’s sad how many of us have lived through it. But hey, at least we learn and from that point forward we can focus on learning to love ourselves.

That's a really good point in that we have to choose ourselves every time when they start showing any sign whatsoever of poor behavior. And being able to recognize those red flags now is a game changer. Never, ever again will allow a man to bring me down and I'm so grateful for all the women in this sub who are teaching me the ropes. We deserve so much better! I just wish I wasn't still hanging on to that hope for a good one. They're unicorns lol.

Yes, that's a big part of it. There is just no replacement for romantic physical touch and I don't even mean in a sexual sense.

I want to first say that I am so sorry you had to endure an abusive relationship. I know how horrific that is and I'm really proud of you for getting to this point!! I have a question because my story is similar to yours...what actionable steps do you ladies take to get to that point? Maybe it's because I'm still healing from the abusive relationship, and I'm grieving the fact that I very well may be alone for the rest of my life and it's...well...depressing. I had a really abusive childhood too…

Oh no!! I'm so sorry to hear that you've had a similar experience. hugs The astronomical levels of audacity they have to think they can abuse women for pleasure...it's nothing short of astounding...and disturbing. I have been doing EMDR therapy for the last 9 months (working through all of NVM's abuse and years of childhood abuse). I still have a ways to go to unravel and heal it all, but I'm getting there! What about you, have you been able to work through it? And seriously, thank goodness for …

Yes, it was really interesting to listen to, thanks again! I’m going to go back and listen to the other ones they’ve done on personality disorders. And Dr. Ramani is fantastic, she does such an amazing job explaining NPD and narcissistic abuse! 🙌

Thank you 💜 I probably overshared - it’s something I get fired up about now because I don’t want other women to fall into the same trap. Thank goodness I got away from him and am learning from all the amazing ladies here. Never again! 🙌

Same - almost every person I've spoken to (men and women) who are into this has readily admitted that their desires are rooted in prior trauma and emotional wounding (we've had at-length discussions about it because I research trauma and personality disorders for my PhD). That's what's so concerning about the fact that this has been normalized because then they aren't getting the help that they need and are instead encouraged by society to partake in further abuse. It's sad, but also makes me so…

Omg they have a recent one on malignant narcissism (NVM ex). Adding this to the list, thanks!

Thank you! If you want to be beaten, whether during sex or otherwise, you need a psych evaluation to address your childhood/trauma wounds because that is NOT a healthy desire. Yet we're considered undesirable because we don't want to be abused. Pfft.

Absolutely agree, BDSM has infiltrated sexual culture to the point that if you don't want to be abused in the bedroom you are deemed boring, not worthy of intimacy, and told that there is something wrong with you. Porn and even feminism promote it so it has been completely normalized and even expected of women. I don't know if any of you saw it, but TEEN Vogue published an article last year where they were encouraging their readers to try out "breathwork" and went on to explain how it can "spice…

For me, it was the realization that most of the men I have been in relationships with turned out to be abusers, cheaters, liars, users, etc. My ex turned out to be an undiagnosed cluster B and the abuse just did me in. I'm a year out and still traumatized, even with therapy and a million other things I'm doing to try and heal. As I talked to other women, I realized that they all had a dating history with similar horror stories (not with personality disorders specifically, but with the abuse, che…

Omg you just made a lightbulb go off in my head and connected a whole lot of dots. One of the things the NVM ex said to me was that he “didn’t have the energy to keep things going”. For the longest time I could not figure out what that meant or what I did wrong. But now it all makes sense! I wanted him to be the person he introduced me to in the beginning, but he didn’t have the energy to keep up the charade. Uhg! His 2.5 years of abuse destroyed my self esteem, but it never had anything to do w…

Yeees this is the truth right here!! That person he was in the beginning doesn’t exist, it’s a mask he wore to get you to fall for him, using all kinds of manipulative mirroring tricks. Usually within a few months (at most) that mask drops and then you see the REAL them.

In a fleeting moment of desperation after getting out of an abusive relationship, I signed up for a dating app. Match.com, I think it was? (Yeah, I know. It was a bad idea from the start...it’s been 9 months and I’m still not dating because I’m working on myself and healing. PS: Thank you FSD for teaching me how to avoid falling into another trap with trash!!) Anyways, I uploaded a photo and typed one single, solitary sentence for my bio. I published the profile, figuring no one would notice and…
