Anyone going through this with young kidsSigh. I am. I can’t believe it’s been so long since I wrote this. I held on until my son started school, like I’d planned. I had some mid fall work travel that I really didn’t want to miss but realized telling my wife I wanted a divorce before leaving the country on travel was a bad idea. By the time I got back we were in the holidays, so I pushed it back again, and now I feel like I need to wait longer because of some financial stuff going on with my mom. Needless to say, it’s just as shitty as… | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/01/25 04:13 AM
Ex’s new partner ruining our amicable co-parenting by slandering me.I think cost benefit it depends on a lot of things, like how egregious the statements are, and how much an attorney thinks they could ask for in a suit, which is going to be state specific. It could also be worth it to threaten a suit to make the statements stop, and if they don't then it could strengthen the case. You can't just get out of a libel suit by claiming something you presented as a fact is an opinion, though. Otherwise libel wouldn't even exist as a cause of action because everyone w… | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/09/23 02:37 PM
Ex’s new partner ruining our amicable co-parenting by slandering me.Libel is generally considered an exception to the first amendment. Also, I'm not sure why it would involve a family court instead of the regular court? | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/23 06:43 PM
Ex’s new partner ruining our amicable co-parenting by slandering me.Screen shot everything and contact an attorney. A lot of non lawyers in here saying you wouldn't have a case for libel - I'm not sure they're at all right and libel laws vary from state to state. According to your story he published false information about you that damages your reputation, it's at least worth talking to an attorney about your chances. Also, a cease and desist letter could help redress the situation even if you don't want to go all the way to litigation. (note this isn't legal ad… | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/23 06:37 PM
Ex’s new partner ruining our amicable co-parenting by slandering me.Are you an attorney? I'm struggling to see how if this is true it doesn't meet the standards for libel. | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/09/23 06:32 PM
The longer you wait, the worse it is?Have you talked to a lawyer? I've been told that with two high income earners, alimony is unlikely even if one makes a lot more than the other (this was not in CA). It's not hard to set up a one hour meeting with a family lawyer to get a rundown of options and risks. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/08/23 02:45 AM
Anyone going through this with young kidsI'm in a similar situation. Very toxic marriage, it's almost impossible for us to interact without a fight. A lot of deep resentment on my end, and a lot of anger from her at the perceived injustice that I might resent some of the things she's done. But, our kids are young. One is four, one is less than one. I worry about what divorce will do to them, but then I worry that growing up in the middle of constant hostility will be even worse. I'm trying to wait until next fall when my son starts kin… | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/07/23 03:33 AM
